  • @btapbeats LMFAO

  • Being a member of the old school generation, I've always been annoyed by the hip-hop samplers. To me, it seems like a lazy way to make music without going through the bother of actually learning how to play an instrument.

  • @vraydio I thought people had finally gotten over this issue. While sampling takes away the skill of musicianship, sampling is still a creative endeavor and in many cases artists create songs which are greater than the sum of their parts. I suggest that you listen to some DJ Shadow or The Avalanches to understand what I mean. In both of those cases I think it is safe to say those artists did a lot of work even though they are sample based artists.

  • @navalverde12 I have a problem thinking of samplers as "artists". While I can appreciate the effort they put into what they do, I just don't care for it. I have the utmost respect for those who actually compose and perform a piece of music using actual instruments. You mention that "sampling takes away the skill of musicianship", that is my argument exactly.

  • @vraydio well I just had to answer to this statement first of all its the media that has you hating on sampling second sampling is the second term discribing this way of creating music it was first called splicing and rock stars have been doing it for along time if you listen to blues music long enough you'll see what i mean justien beberss songs are remakes as well

  • @vraydio try making a sample and get back to me

  • I don't know how you can't see the beauty in J. Cole's, Mary's, Roy's etc. all together.

  • @czar178 i never said i didnt like their songs or the artists i just choose not to recognize them on this song...now if this was listen up by e rule then i would recognize him...do ya kinda get where im at?

  • @trackstarz2011 nice you hit the nail on the head but who the hell is e rule lol

  • Ok check this scene out. 1976, 16 year old girl gets to redecorate her room. Color scheme the walls were alternating colors of lemon yellow. red orange , with green carpet. Now with all the creative freedom I was given I painted a half red orange sun with "everybody loves sunshine"letters outlining it in silver, orange, yellow geo wall paper. The other wall had the poster from PinkFloyd 's Money(you know the one)aww the memories.

  • @wheatleyherbert Dark Side of the Moon

  • @wheatleyherbert cudi?

  • @YoungMalcomX1 what???

  • @wheatleyherbert Kid cudi (rapper) uses that "Dark side of the moon" quote too

  • I wouldn't even know about Roy Ayers if it wasn't for MaryJ. Blige.

  • @thestaydown I wouldn't even put that as a comment

  • @Alltyme11210 No shade, but I could care less what you would do. Live your life without hate, it's much easier.

  • @Alltyme11210 I'm just sayin' old school b4 new school, you can't mention MJB, Brand Nubian, Royal Flush, n all the others who used the beat w/o blessing Roy. Ya'll to quick wit this hate talk. Only real hate is self hate.

  • @Alltyme11210 The truth is that I could mention whoever I want, the truth is without new school some old school artists would be forgotten, when Mary came out she brought back the Soul when Whitney and Mariah were singing pop. Mary has been out for over 20 years she is old school, she has been a bridge, btw I love Roy Ayers I was just making a statement on how I got to know him.

Next time you want someone to understand something, you should say more than "I wouldn't put that as a comment"

  • Love, love, love, love, love.

It nice to be able to hear the original versions and download them as well.

    This feeds my soul.

I should have been in my early 20's in the 70's.

  • 19 people don't like the sunshine.

  • my kid told me the other day she like Kanye be cause he samples older music, she's 17 born in 93. the sample s caused her to look @ older music to wich she would have never heard otherwise. its like overhearing a conversation that leads you to a good book, movie, or resturaunt. so samples done right amplify the original artist!

  • @jdelso916 Yes that is a very good point. I'm 19 and it just saddens me how many of my peers do not appreciate good music. Even you like the song that sampled the music more its still important to familiarize yourself with the original version. You might just find that you like the original version better or that it makes you appreciate the use of sampling more. For me personally my interest in Jazz Rap/Hop has eventually lead me to check out Acid Jazz artists like Roy Ayers.

  • @jdelso916 yeah i just turned 20 and for a few years now ive been really getting into rap music well i was really getting into rap music but i always got way more into the sample and now ive pretty much just moved to music rap music samples like old soul jazz and funk all in all my life is better : D

  • just classic. summer sweetness. peace

  • naw bro yu can thnk about whomever yu want im jus sayin that too many ppl are recognizin artists that sampled (or bascially stole) from this song instead of recognizin the artist that made the song and i jus wanted to let everybody know that i knew of the samples too but i came to listen to roy ayers not because i wanted to hear what the rapper/singer sampled....my pops always leave his account open lol

  • Don't forget the BlackByrds and The beautiful funky jazz artists like Hankock, Correa, etc.

  • IF I COULD RUB A LAMP AND GOT THREE WISHES.. I WOULD GO BACK TO THE 70S ( EARLY 70S ) AND JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC IN LINCOLN PARK IN CHICAGO.. THE OTHER 2 WOULD BE..........

  • Classic music...it gets no better than this!

  • Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories!!!

  • the original, the one an only! There's nothing else out there like this classic. It withstands the test of time and change. I have to listen to this regularly to help keep myself grounded in this stressed out world.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • rock n roll please, who listen to that now? funk music is what going on now !!! i am sorry to tell you.

  • hmmmmn you can sure see where Jay Kay found his influences

  • listen to this once a day, and you'll know eternal sunshine !

  • Fantastic production...

  • funk is good but rock n roll is better

  • @100gigem I'm sorry, the actual answer is "I like rock n roll better" which is great. We're all different, that's what keeps things interesting.

  • @100gigem I'm sorry, the actual answer is "I like rock n roll better" which is great. We're all different, that's what keeps things interesting. I should point out that I'm personally all over the map.

naw bro yu can thnk about whomever yu want im jus sayin that too many ppl are recognizin artists that sampled (or bascially stole) from this song instead of recognizin the artist that made the song and i jus wanted to let everybody know that i knew of the samples too but i came to listen to roy ayers not because i wanted to hear what the rapper/singer sampled

  • @trackstarz2011 stfu attention whore

  • @4200224 damn bro you dnt even kno me...true i posted it for thumbs up but at the same time was tired of all the comments from other ppl that didnt involve the song (even tho i found the song from a sample lol "everyone is a hypocrite"- Huey Newton) but yea youtube comments i've found are a gift and a curse....you cant please everybody and you shouldnt strain yourself to try....you dont have to agree with me im jus sayin my side of the truth Peace brotha

  • @trackstarz2011 you good cuz

  • @trackstarz2011 I don't see why any of those people can't be considered real music as well..

  • @RRMusic93 jus my opinion bro you can see them as however you want my opinion of real music is instruments, arrangements, harmonies, vocals you how it used to be (i kno i kno that tired old cliche right? lol)

  • @trackstarz2011 i was thinking of Mary J Blige's version of searching, in fact i was listening to it, i love her expression in the song but then i listened to Roy's version and i loved the soul, especially the vocals.

  • @trackstarz2011 i think those artist produce real music too.

  • Comment removed

  • @trackstarz2011 wtf u tryint 2 say? they made classics sampling this CLASSIC fool......gtfohfr....and INFINITE was the last 2 sample this joint minus that weak ass J. Cole over the phone shit...big ups 2 anyone from the 910 btw....Raeford Fayetteville Lumberton and the 919(Bullcity all day) but INFINITE was the last to bless this sample with a meaningful joint called "one day"......u may also know him from the 3 tracks on Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike....

  • @gemini4lyfe3001 look man at this pt im catchin so much praise and flack for a YOUTUBE COMMENT that i dnt really care abt what ppl say abt it anymore...its jst my opinion quote "my opinion of real music is instruments, arrangements, harmonies, vocals" your guys opinion is that they do and i respect that...i mean dont get me wrong the artists that sampled this song are very talented and real in sense that they deviate from status quo its just ill take the original over the sample every time PEACE

  • @trackstarz2011 but ur comment dismisses them altogether as if what they did with this sample wasn't relevant....that ignorant shit...thats why u got checked....think b4 u speak...maybe u wouldnt spend ya time on here explaining the stupid shit u say...

  • @gemini4lyfe3001

What you don't realize is the huge disparity of the level of musicianship; melodic, harmonic and compositional understanding between Roy Ayers and the aforementioned artists that @trackstarz2011 named. Not saying they are irrelevant for sampling the song, which I'm sure Roy Ayers receives royalties for, (BTW, I love the Mary J. Blige version) but there is an obvious decline of the quality of music, work and musical understanding now in popular music than there was in the past.

  • @kalamityrbg how is that so when every artists' rendition of a sampled song has their own meaning different than the original's tone? Look at 2pac's "All About U" sampling a Cameo classic "Candy' is about eating pussy while Pac's version is about seeing the same type of broad in every city Indie Arie is a prime example as her song "Video" samples Brick's "fun" and also was sampled by Akinyele for "Put it in your mouth"...India's is about accepting and appreciating her naturals while akinyele

  • @kalamityrbg is talking about telling a female to put a dick in her mouth....Akinyele's came out in 96 as an EP and India's came out in 2001....thats 2 different time periods in music and while both samples completely contrast each other....both are considered a classic for their themes and content...ur statement is BULLSHIT!!!!

  • @gemini4lyfe3001 You totally missed my point and neither am I attempting to partake in a pissing contest over whose opinion is more valid. I in no way negated or diminished the talent and music of the artistes you mentioned. They all equally have their place and purpose, what I'm talking about is the juxtaposition and lack of production quality, harmonic and motivic development and understanding and level of musicianship in pop music today to that of before...

  • @kalamityrbg

thank you!!! i wish i had the vocab to say it like that hahaha but thats basically what i was tryna say

  • @gemini4lyfe3001 Compare the aforementioned musical qualities and characteristics, say between Lil Wayne & Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones & Kanye West, Roy Ayers & Akinyele. Things change; yes, but more is often lost. What I'm saying is understand the history of Black music, and art in general, in America; when it thrived and existed on a high aesthetic and creative level and compare it to what is widely disseminated now.

  • @kalamityrbg lol this fool said understand the history of black music? where to start this off topic shit at....if i remember correctly...the history of black music was always a form of expression embraced compassionately and without fear from blacks because we werent allowed to parallel the same behavior outside of it(Jim Crow..Brown Vs, Board Education... Sit Ins by black students at A&T during the 60s....etc) now back to topic...FUCK LIL WAYNE im sick of reading that undercover fag in damn

  • @kalamityrbg near every youtube vid concerning a "now & then" comparison with hip hop or black music for that matter..fuck that fag...how in the fuck did u bring a jazz violinist and vocalist from the 40s/50s into comparison with a "LIL WAYNE"??? nigga stay off that pcp and modified crack homie....the point of my comment which didnt have shit to do with ur ass playing youtube "save-a-keyboard-warrior" was that those minus a few who sampled this has put out quality material using it

  • @kalamityrbg NUFF SAID!!!

  • @trackstarz2011 what about masta ace?

  • @trackstarz2011 Year Phoenix was born, can't fix what ain't broken.

  • @trackstarz2011 yeaaah cuz nigga only NARDWUAR on my mind

  • @trackstarz2011 Right on my friend,im 37 and i could care less about anything on the radio or mainstream music in general, rock on.
