  • Sessylove93, I was just noticing how much your uncle Stuart resembled actor Kurt Russell...wondering if Kurt was ever approached to play Stuart in the movie? All would've had to do is wear a darker hairpiece. :)

  • 41 years ago...God bless you Sessylove93 and your Uncle Stuart. May he and the 74 others who perished rest in peace. I was nine years old when this tragedy occurred. I remember going outside with my mother, looking to the west and the sky was orange. I grew up within walking distance from Spring Hill cemetery and used to go up to the MU memorial all the time. Most importantly, I am an MU grad....we will NEVER forget!

  • I've been watching a few of these memorial videos, and they must have been incredibly tough to make. I have no connection to any of these people and these videos stir my emotions as the movie did. All are well done, and even though I'm not a fan of Avril Levigne, the song fits the video so well. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones in that awful tragedy, and I have become a fan of Marshall football. I appreciate the video and the work put into it. God Bless!

  • @Sessylove93 Your video is beautifully done and I agree with your response to TheDrfeelgood01's comments regarding pilot error. As I recall, this particular pilot was indeed very experienced, but had never flown into the Tri-State airport, which was said to be a difficult land at that time. That, coupled with the rain and fog contributed to the accident. But again...what's the point in the blame game? As you said, he lost his life as well. (I am very sorry about your Uncle Stuart, btw.)

  • A movie with meaning - if only we knew which day was the last day. If we knew tomorrow would be our last day, I'm not sure what each of us might do with that day. I have no doubt that would be the day WE WOULD BE THE BEST "ME" we could ever be. Wonderful movie, wonderful post.

  • I know what it feels like to lose an uncle my uncle Joe Hood #33 was a sophomore to this day I still weep about all of the 1970 thunder herd ...:::We Are Marshall:::...

  • @ thedrfeelgood1 is it necessary to undermine the memorial here by criticizing the crew on board?? Leave the memorial for the tribute that it is and keep your put-downs to yourself.

  • We had gone to every home game that season. Did the same the following season to route for "The Young Thundering Herd!"

  • i love marshall and i allways will . nothing will change that

  • The Head Coach Rick Tolley Used to live in the house beside me, and is from the same town as me!

  • Remember when you fly. You get what you pay for. $30K a year for pilots on the Regionals. Simple Pilot error caused this accident. Read the NTSB report. When you fly you want the $80K a year guy, not the $30. Technology now prevents most of these basic mistakes now, but its the mind of the pilot his skill that you are paying for.

  • @TheDrfeelgood01 Remember, the pilot is dead as well, and there's little point in placing blame on anyone for an accident when that person also suffered the tragedy. Just saying.

  • @TheDrfeelgood01 That's a great idea. Then let's raise plane fares and make sure those pilots are paid better. I think that if we raise them according to inflation, then a (1970) $500 dollar ticket from NY to LA (back when jet fuel was 50c a gallon) should run about $3000 (for the $4.00 per gal)...as opposed to the $380 that it costs now. Bags should also be about $100 each...that should ensure that no more plane crashes happen, right?

  • @TheDrfeelgood01 If you read the report you see the NTSB wasn't able to determine why the flight crew descended below the glide path. They put emphasis on determining if an extremely localized weather condition could have made the altimeters read high making them fly to low. There was speculation they used the radio altimeter for vertical guidance which would have fooled the crew since the airport is on a high point above the Ohio river valley along the approach but no way to know for certain.

  • I lived near Huntington when this happened and it still saddens me to this day.

  • i'm an australian that had very little idea about marshall and college sport before i saw this movie i now had a great deal of respect for what marshall did

  • I was born October 12th of 1970. This movie hits me like a moving train. I cannot help but feel the hurt for these people and take this movie into my heart.

  • @superfriends1200 It's tough to be unaffected by it. Thankfully, tragedies like this don't happen every day, but the ones that do leave a lasting impression for everyone. Thank you for commenting. :)

  • how could u dislike this? man this is the best thing i have ever seen dude

  • "When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight". -Kahlil Gibran

  • I was born on November 14, so now I have to have the knowledge every year that those people had died..D;

  • @TheDemon43 Yeah, but they didn't die because of YOU, so it's not so bad. I'm sure the people who were born on Pearl Harbor Day feel sort of the same way. Or any other tragic historical day. It's ok to eat your cake while you remember Marshall. :)

  • @TheDemon43

I remember this day like yesterday..it was foggy..chilly..and just a horrific day in West Virginia...

  • I was eight when the plane crash happened. It was miserable, cold, rainy night - it is burned in my heart forever.

  • @Stultz2005 My dad was eight at the time, too! D: If I remember correctly.... Thank you for connecting with us.

  • This is on my favourites and playlists Sessy, I watch it often.

  • This was probably the most powerful movie I have ever seen and my deepest wishes and respect goes out those who perished and those who knew them. -Peter N. Gaines, Berkshire Mountaineers 1997-1998.

  • As November creeps up soon, I'll always remember Nov 14, 1970. It will only add to the tears that fall from the trees in WV and VA where I live. Our hearts are with you, those that were there, and those that wait.

    WE ARE MARSHALL

  • Sessy...As a former Marshall student, I wanted to chime in. You've done a wonderful job. My dad was at Marshall when the plane crashed, and he has shared some stories with us as we grew up. The theme still runs so very strong here, and I'm extremely glad you've chosen to share with us your story and unique perspective. Thank you.
