Would this have been at the Tornado Jam? Damn, that was an event! Stevie Ray and a brilliant line-up.
All the nights dancing at Coldwater Country. This was a time and place where there was an amazing alignment of the stars. Hated Lubbock, but enjoyed the music and the art.
Lloyd & Jesse WOW!!! Them Lubbock boys were the shit! I live in Austin and it's known as the Live Music Capital of The World due in large part to these bad ass Lubbock boys all moving here in the 70's
Possibly the best lineup Ely ever had (except for David Grissom). Lloyd's rock & roll steel guitar, Jesse Taylor's blues, and Ponty Bone's accordion. Memories of some amazing rocking nights in Lubbock in the late 70's. God Blessed Texas.
I was at this show. Linda Ronsdadt appeared with the Joe Ely Band wearing a yellow raincoat head to toe & sand "Desparados". Good show. If you still have the Planets video's can you post those?
I was at the mud bowl '81; remember the incredibly drunk guy wearing the duster who kept falling in the mud ALL DAY? only his eyes weren't muddy --but he never dropped his beer; and the forgettable Gary Morris sang "Dixie" and the sun came out for the first and only time- i was 19 and thought Lubbock was a big town
Saw this crew open for Chuck Berry at the Paramount Theater my first night in Austin, 1981. Said to myself, "I could live here..." and did for the next 8 years.... during which time I completeley ignored FM radio, and missed not a thing.
Yes, I have seen Dallas from a DC-9 at night. Way back when Continental had DC-9's on the late flight from Houston-DFW. Also seen Dallas from a NW DC-9 and a Boeing 717! :)
The Jam with Linda Ronstadt was in 1981. the mud bowl, if you will recall. remember the lines to the port o pot. we had to relieve ourselves through the chain link fence. That ended up on local t.v. Damn that was the best.
Much better quality than the videotape I made of The Tornado Jam that ran on Lubbock TV. Must have been one of the 1st things I taped on my huge new VCR. It also had The Planets & Jay Boy Adams on it.
Does anyone have the ACL video of Lloyd and his Brothers' band??

Yes, and all I noticed is that Fort Worthless is now little more than a huge frack-pit.

If you like this, you should check out the Danish artist Peter Belli's interpretation.
It's called "København fra en DC-9"
You might not understand the lyrics, but still... :)
