Naww, no everyone will know how to do it! The amount of times I'd show off in servers with 'Hover' maneuvers and whatnot, with others attempting to do the same.... Good times. =P
If my memory serves; 75Kmph was about the speed it'll take off the ground and if you get enough practise in, you can take Autohover off fairly early
Don't be mistaken, the Harrier is capable of vertical takeoff. However, it does have it's limitations and as such is used only for showing off and other such necessities :P
This is true, but there is a second clip with the Harrier landing, and Harrier is a V/STOL aircraft". Hence V/STOL (Vertical and/or Short Take-Off and Landing)
Wow, it's so simple: Just press Q, Ctrl + K, Ctrl + K, hold Q for a short while, Ctrl + G, Ctrl + K, Ctrl + K, hold Q some more aaaaand that's it, you're airborne!
And in case of an emergency, dial 0118 999 881 999 119 7253! ;)
well actualy a combat ready (missles, bombs, external fuel tanks) cant verticaly take off so its V/STOL, but it can without anything on or very small ammounts, it does land verticaly after a mission cuz its emptey
Yeah I know, if it were unarmed it can launch vertically, but is empty on recover so like you said it can land vertically. But its so heavy on takeoff the Pegasus doesn't have enough grunt to get it airborne. One drawback of the SHAR is that it can only hover for about 80 seconds after which its water supply has run out and the engine will overheat :S.
and it was originaly designd for short takeoffs because the UK feared that after a soviet attack on europe most of the airfields would be destroyed or dammaged so they made the harrier able to takeoff from roads if needed. it eaven has shorter wings and better landing gear to do that.
The tarmac would be melting yes, but that would be due to the wreckage of the harrier, its engine would blow from overheating, its one of the SHAR's most obvious flaw. It only has one engine. Most, if not all next gen fighters have two engines in case of damage/malfunction. However, the SHAR is still one of the best dogfighters out there. In a knife fight it can wipe the floor against F-15's/16's etc. It has thrust vectoring so only the most up to date aircraft can match its turning circle.
well the pegasus is a very powerfull engine, its also mega big, so i doubt it can have 2, oh and the whole redundency thing wouled be useless on a VTOL aircraft since if one engine died or make any kind of differance to the other engine the whole plane would just go wtf out of control.
I know that, it would upset the whole balance of the aircraft. Its a simple question of weight. Its the same with the JSF. The only way I could see a redundancy working if there was some kind of ballast, like in submarines. However, it comes down to weight again. I doubt that engineers could come up with an engine capable of supporting a fully laden combat aircraft as well as a liquid ballast, plus the complexity of such a system would be insane that it would simple not be feasible :(.
Yet by far the most successful 4th generation fighter is the single-engined F-16.
While a single-engined design is unusual for naval operations, the supporting argument is that there is half as much to go wrong with one engine instead of two.
To be honest, Harrier losses due to engine failure are not really any worse than other military fast jets.
nice tutorial, gonna try it later

Why include the 'VL' part even, when the video didn't show any landing?
Pulseczar1 2 years ago
Seperated in two parts. One is the take-off and one is the landing, which is here: c_Qe8KpjclE

No, ArmA was a PC exclusive. There will however be a consol version of ArmA 2, but I'm not sure the Harrier will be available.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but I guess it's going to be released on PC and Xbox360, maybe PS3 as well.

Actually, he is correct. V/STOL stands for Vertical/Short Take Off And Landing, which is what the Harrier in its different flavours is capable of.

yep, and after 80 seconds its super hot exsaust would probably start melting the tarmac or something

Tekakwo 4 years ago
it can, he's demonstrating the short take off if you read.
if he held down "q" for like 2 seconds instead of 10 it would have "jumped"
(harrier "jump" jet)
he was going for as short a take off as possible
hope this clears things ;)
