my grandpa remembers hearing this from u.s. soldiers' radios a few years after war in the far east/pacific. cities were still nothing but rubble. can't imagine how hard life was. not many people remember, and those who do... well, sadly their memories , voices, and faces are fading. so, as i listen to this song, i try to imagine what went thru my grandpa's mind back then. he doesn't speak english, but knows the melody.. would bring tears of mixed emotion to his eyes i'd imagine.
