  • Best weekend TV all the best things used to come in them days

  • When I hear the lwt logo @ 0:48 I expect the "On the Buses" theme to come on.

  • I own the flag that you see in that compilation, it's proudly framed in my Dining Room !

  • My revival idea for LWT but for the entire UK would be:

    National Weekend Television

With at least 13 regions, my one will be listed here, along with nearby regions:

South-Eastern Weekend Television (SEWT and SEW)

London Weekend Television (obviously)(LWT and LW)

West Country Weekend Television (WCWT and WCW)

Bristol Sunday Television (BSUN TV)(would only run on Sundays, complemented by Bristol Saturday Television which will be BSAT)

  • have you see the news on regional itv

ITV could pull out of regional fuck you itv

  • At least it was classy of ITV to give LWT staff a chance to say goodbye.

  • The homogenisation of television has begun.

  • @GanEdenAustralia We have the same here in France. Every national channel is the same shit nowadays. I miss the LWT ident when I traveled to London.

  • That Big LWT logo and ident them used to mean get ready here we go its the weekend bring on the great tv the weekend is here ! miss you LWT....

  • The last of the great regional ITV franchises dead. RIP LWT you brought us great entertainment.

  • LWT your my hero

  • A nice blow to the ribs there, with that "ITV1 will be comin' atchya" remark.

Well done ITV plc. Couldn't have better destroyed this once fine network of stations.

  • My cousin (Who was born in Britain and raised in Australia) watched ITV when he went to london when he was younger and he loved watching LWT mostly for Saturday morning cartoons.

My cousin is now 28 and watches ITV London as of 2006 despite how Awful ITV is now when Thames,TVS and TSW all lost their franchises.

  • @kiltsonfire164 ITV is anything instead of good now, because it's dead!

  • @AnthonyUK I know but in Australia, we don't have ITV but we do have ABC Australia which airs ITV and BBC Programming.

  • I would have been furious after this and smashed something before storming out of the South Bank Studios;the pillocks running itv into the ground were and are morons!

  • Thank You All At LWT

  • ITV is a money waster why just consolidate everything when regional tv still works best?

  • That guy, Michael whats his name at 1:02 The Saint lookalike had a really cool voice.

  • A smaller leaner ITV isn't necessarily a better ITV!

  • Greetings from America!

I've been watching LWT idents and other ITV idents for some time now and have to agree: the way LWT closed out was very stylish, to say the least. Pity that you ITV Region fans out there must have the same brand of television that we in America get nowadays.

  • Trish and Glen you will always be my heros of LWT and LWT wouldn't have happend without you Trish and Glen and all the other LWT announcers so a big thank you to all the announcers esp Glen and Trish for entertaning me I hope Glen, Trish all the LWT announcers and LWT comes back soon LWT was one of the best stations that prouduced great TV shows like Suprise Suprise, Gladiators, Moment Of Truth, Blind Date, Strike It Lucky/Rich , You Bet and so on . Love you always LWT and Trish and Glen xxxxxxx

  • Farewell to a legend!!

  • LWT will always rock on in our hearts!

  • Trish Bertram's white?

  • LWT represented class, its not just ITV1, which is trash TV, trash culture seems to pervade...so, whether its the internet or the natural evolution of TV/society, who knows? Friends re-united has gotta be the flop of the decade...But now with the monolithic BBC iplayer, Sky this, Sky that, MTV YouTube, Online Gaming, myface! I think the term, 'Less is more' has real meaning...

  • As a child, I usually preferred BBC programmes, but there were exceptions, such as the unusual "Ace of Wands" and the fun "Magpie". Somehow, ITV did manage to combine the need to make money with the ability to produce some decent programmes. Something has changed. Perhaps the decline in quality does have something to do with a lack of regional input. Maybe this is insomnia talking, but are things rather soulless now? Can't they entertain as well as make money? Perhaps today they can't.

  • Funny really - I remember watching this when I was "oop norf" as on the sky box, I could select whichever ITV region I wanted, and though being in the Yorkshire TV region, being up there at weekends, I normally selected LWT, as I was in London in the Carlton/LWT region during the week. I had no idea that ITV regional branding was ending, so was quite surprised when I saw the "ditty" before The South Bank Show, and so had to tune in for this final tribute an hour later!

  • Man,seeing this makes me wish I was alive during the period of LWT and the other channels.

  • HOLY SHIT NOSTALGIA ALERT <3

  • it makes me laugh about ITV watching youtube seeing all the videos about them and not many are plesant about how ITV stands today, yet ITV are happy to throw money down the drain on websites and football, and blame the current economic downturn, when im sure it hasnt helped but there are other ways and meand to get new advertsing, but no.. cut cut cut till theres nothing left and then self it off, the goverment need to step in and do somthing because offcom are far too week and a waste of space

  • shame they mentioned ITV1

  • The South Bank Show (r.i.p 2010) is surely one of the last bastions of the LWT brand - forever to disappear from our screens onto the likes of ITV3 or quite possibly to tv heaven (youtube) in the next 18 months...

  • ITV plc and ITV1 aren't interested in viewers just money, profits and shareholders. If the IBA was still around and broadcasting wasn't deregulated by the tories 1990 broadcasting act(and the damage carried on by labour!) then we wouldn't have this silly stupid mess that ITV are currently in, I doubt the IBA would have allowed ITV(and indeed ILR)to get to this state if they were still around.

  • ITV is a business and in all business' the aim is to makemoney. Its to be expected.

  • It's only a business because accountants moved in and scaled everything down in the breakup and ruinisation of ITV!

  • ITV and before were always a business. you cant expect them to create a business solely for peoples entertainment. they always intended to make money off it

  • With shit programmes, tasteless talent shows and faceless presentation and a gamut of repeats of trash on sundays with weekday repeats forming the schedule. The IBA wouldn't have let it go this way

  • I agree, lets get LWT back along with the rest of the Regional Idents.

  • Great days. Sadly, I think that ITV is on a downward spiral to know where. There was something to be said for the old days of TV. Today, we have umpteen channels of mainly rubbish. Who would believe that the BBC would outlast its commercial competitors?

  • What time was it when they show this ending piece?

  • Certainly knew how to go off in style.

  • ITV PLC is soulless shit. Bring back regional telly. ITV today is a chav channel, 30 years ago it stood for quality.

  • 0:49 brings back memories as a kid.

I recall sale of the century being the first program on friday nights, later replaced by play your cards right.

  • The LWT ident reminds me so much of my childhood it's incredible, it signalled the start of the weekend with saturday morning tv and dr.who after the wrestling and football scores.

    The 70's weren't all bad.

  • We were robbed of our weekend feeling. We knew it was the weekend when LWT was on - in London anyway. Still, all good things come to an end.

  • the good old days

  • Sob Sob :o(

  • The studio hasn't changed.......

  • This is ITV killing its self, ITV Plc are moaning coas they are loosing money well. if ITV wernt so Stupid in the first PLace and got rid of the Regionla Identitys ITV might od had a chance of being a sucess but no this Week ITV banging the final nails into its Coffin as ITV the the South West is Killed off completey and we have to watch ITV from Bristol! ITV Suck!!!!!!

  • totally agree. and the x factor. eww. itv should know better.

  • itv 1 will be coming back with a whole shite look!

  • I agree! Carlton was Shit!

  • Carlton TV is a leech that bleeds other TV stations dry. They bought Zenith Productions off Central ITV and when they bid for Central in the 90s, they sad " were Carlton, we make Inspector Morse" when in fact CENTRAL'S film making arm made it! I hate Carlton with a passion.

  • with all the digital tv nowadays i dont know why lwt dont go digital repeat its old shows i bet itll still have more viewers than itv has today.plus no one does tv idents like them.

  • The appalling mess that ITV now finds itself in began when Thames lost its franchise and Carlton took over

  • @charlieboy7t5 Some may have fealt the same way when Southern and Westward went kaput in 1981. But yeah ITV certanly did loose it's charm after regional identification was eliminated. But then TV nowadays in my opinion isen't worth watching, now that Reality TV has taken over!

  • Bloody hell!!!! Where did you get this clip from? Thats the most impressive footage of LWT winding down i've seen yet. Top stuff. Yay for YouTube.

  • Ditto!! LWT was the business. I remember shows like Surprise, Surprise, Catchphase and Highway. Let me get this straight - LWT, as the name suggests was on weekends, but Thames was on weekdays?

  • Yes Thames was weekdays up until 31st december 1992, when Carlton took over their slot.

Not sure about surprise surprise but Catchphrase was TVS first, then carlton and Highway I think was from a different ITV region each week.

  • Does anyone know which music library the music for the montage is from? I've definitely heard it on a couple of ITV1 promos/trails, too!

  • If anyone is on Facebook, serach for a group called "Bring back ITV regions Petition" thats my group and it needs support! Letes bring back Peter Lewis, Trish Bertram, and Glen and LWT and all the regions we loved as kids!

  • search in the networks for "LWT mafia". that is a network for old LWT staff!

  • LWT was the best. No one does big bold station logos like that anymore. ( but at least you can hear Trish Bertram on Channel Five these days)

  • This is amazing- I think I'm going to cry from the nostalgia of it all!!(lols). Is there anything we can't find on YouTube?!!!

  • From 1984, I remember all of these idents and it makes me feel so sad to see the end of LWT. LWT always made my weekend, but now it has all changed. Weekend TV is not as good now as it was with LWT. After a weekend break from school, I was always watching LWT. Now it's gone. It is so sad I just wanna cry :'( BRING BACK LWT!!! I grew up watching LWT and now its all faded away. BRING BACK LWT!!!!!

  • I miss LWT

  • WoW i was 5 years old and I cant remember ANYTHING about LWT, Carlton and so on and so on

  • Thats a pretty darn good farewell ending. it actuly bows out well showing its best of. not bad at all! I feel like that i missed it so much of those idents that were also graphicaly cool.

  • Also Glenn Thompsett works for meridian tv..as a spare presenter/reporter..he and his wife julie live near me near west malling in kent

  • and his kids, Matt 16 (ME) and Mike 14 :) just thought i'd add that to your wierd ways of knowing and wanting people to know were we live. :S

  • You have a very talented dad there Matt! He was my favourite with Trish on LWT!

  • someone's uploaded Trish Bertram's individual last announcement on here too.

  • Who?

  • Trish now does voice overs for bid tv and price-drop tv!

  • I love the montage of idents here! Sad!

  • 12 30 2007

I just came across this, now I know how "columbus" felt, or perhaps a ham operator. Talking to, or looking a pictures from somewhere far off.

  • Glen Thompsett (the first announcer) is my dad =]

  • Damn, wish I could have been in London to watch LWT, since it seems like a nice bunch of people who run it.

  • Apparently poncey tv execs had a meeting & decided 1 national ident plastered all over the screen was the best way to attract the yoof from the other hundred channels, which also prefer style over content. All its done is made ITV1 even more downmarket than it was before. And they're more in debt than ever. Nice one!

  • they wanted to be like the BBC - One Universal identity

  • The BBC commands respect the world over, though. ITV's identity commands only ridicule.

  • Not forgetting that in 2004 the production of all regional news programmes on ITV plc-owned stations passed to ITN. They too haven't been the same since, especially London Tonight.

  • No, only the London region news is produced by ITN.

  • Are you sure? I thought Meridian Tonight was also produced by ITN.

  • LWT's logo continued to appear on signatures until the end of 2004, but ITV1 simply has not been the same since 27 October 2002.

  • I guess the red white and blue of LWT would be no pc these bloody days anyways! i have to say ITV1 is in a great mess now.

  • What are you on about? In what way is Red white and blue 'not PC'? Someone ought to tell Aquafresh if it isn't!
