  • Merry me a little Ms. Robot! Cardboard Bobby and flat ta boot!

  • The one thing I can't stand about recordings of shows with most cameras is that it is so hard to see the facial features. I do my singing interpretation with my face and my voice so when I see videos where I can't see my face, I feel like people aren't getting my whole performance. So I can't say I am seeing the whole performance in this. But, what I can say is that this is a difficult song but for a high school performance this was adequate vocally.

  • he's singing like he's asking someone to go to a mildly entertaining movie date with him. This is the shallowest performace of this song. ever.

TIP: the more you concentrate on what you're saying the better and less lazy it will sound. Oh, and build.

  • So, marching around aimlessly, playing musical instruments.. and having ZERO communication with fellow characters is NOT a "hideous" interpretation?

PLEASE!! - That IS ridiculous [spelled correctly!].

If what you say about Sondheim's view is correct, then my respect for him goes right into the toilet.

On a lighter note [b-flat, I think], high school is a great place to learn about ALL theatre pieces, "Company" included. This school did a A+ job performing the material.

  • Removed comment: I have a feeling you are young. & while I agree the young should learn of all aspects, frankly some theater is beyond the reach of those who have not experienced life-as is the case from what I see here-& while he is doing a great job if you want to get real-he does not get this song at all & is rather pitchy throughout the performance.& if you read up on Sondheim you would see that he considers acting the primary consideration when looking at performances of his material.

  • Removed comment: Plain and simple-I just do not agree with you. I love the revival-I don't think a high school can do this show justice- And I think Sondheim is genius-enough said on that subject.

  • Wow, 15 years old? That is fantastic!

  • Your high school is amazing?! O_O

  • This is really awesome! The fact that this is a high school production and the guy is fifteen is astounding! great job guys

Technical question: this is the end of ACT 1, right?

  • Sorry that it took me so long to answer... YES, this is the end of Act 1. Interesting - This song was cut from a past professional production, DC I think. It's a shame; it's such a powerful song and adds so much to Bobby's character.

  • it is inexcusable for a male lead too not have vocal talent when BOBBY's part is based strongly on vocal talent. i just dont think you have a very strong ear for Musical theater.....and this is my opinion....just like it is yours that the 2006 revival was hideous which i disagree with.

  • what r u gus talking about he was bad and sharp and off key

  • Translation: "What are you guys talking about? He was bad... and sharp... and off key."

Well, yeah - this 15-old-actor [like you] was sharp, but musical theatre is more than a "concert" of perfect voices. Of course the actors should sound "pleasing" but they must also "sell" their parts, and this Bobby was excellent. Please refrain from comparing THIS original-concept-production of COMPANY to the hideous revival of late.

  • What is original about this version?

  • Basically - - the sets and staging using the levels, as well as the integrated scene transitions. Yup, that's my answer!! ;-}

  • Just so we are clear-the original broadway used levels

and scene transitions-There is nothing too original about that. I feel you were involved with this production in some way and are not abel to step back and see it objectively. I have been in many shows that were great and some that were terrible-I think you need to distance yourself from this and not be so defensive regarding feedback-if you don;t want to hear it-disable the function!

  • I make comments NOT based on my own bias.. but because this production won Best Musical in a state competition of over 100 high schools - so "qualified others" view the show as errr - errr - GOOD! I am proud to be part of the team, and my statements reflect that. Don't assume that I DON'T want to hear feedback. I'm not a computer-dope; I know that I "could" disable comments.. but I don't.

You removed 3 comments that you made a month ago. Please don't! Stick by your words.

  • AND - It's difficult writing "the whole story" with a 500 word restriction, so sometimes I [and others] come across like an ass.

I've been involved with 50+ productions locally. some were stinkers, some were superb. Considering the venue [if that's at ALL the correct word].. this one was superb.

I could write a book about all the duds over the years! Still - I won't ever bash them. I wasn't brought-up that way.

  • So, please do not confuse my "pride" and "considerate manners" with "non-objectivity."

  • I guess my problem stems from you-You have been harsh to ANYONE who had even the mildest critique of this show or this performance. People pointing out obvious problems-pitch issues and lack of commitment-have been made to feel less than worthy than yourself. You do yourself no service when you try to compare this to the broadway revival and say this was better. It really just invalidates your opinion when you say silly things like that

  • "Hey, ya got a problem wit me" {read with Brooklyn accent}.

I just read all my comments about this clip. Where did silly me say that this production was "better" than the revival? I wrote the word "compare," not "better." Yeah - I know that I also wrote "hideous" to describe the revival. Well - it was! However, the original production was BY FAR the best that has ever happened. No contest.

  • I love this song so much! I do it in voice performance. Goodness I love my Sondheim :) And great job!

  • smart, sensitive interpretation of an emotionally indecisive song. what is "Bobby" doing these days with his voice?

  • Sadly, nothing at the present time. I have been really busy with classes in college and have not had the time to really explore the musical theater department. I never really thought I had what it takes to be a Broadway lead, so I have been concentrating on other interests. Thank you very much for the wonderful comment. It really made my day!

  • Great clip. Really enjoyed it. Seemed to be a bit of a spotlight problem. This can be solved with an internal adjustment in most camcorders. I have two Sonys and each has a settle specifically for theatrical productions. It gets rid of this problem.

  • Thanks for complimenting the performance!

Yeah, the camera was "low tech," & this show used very bright spotlights against dark. The thing couldn't handle that condition. That camera shows text on the screen [which would be recorded on to the video] if I were to change settings like "backlight compensation" or "shutter speed," so I chose to just aim the damn thing and hope for the best!! I had focus set to manual, and it drifted a bit during the 45 minutes prior to this song.

  • Great Voice! Very Well Done!

  • You know...this looks like a very good production. Not just for high school, but in general. This is such a hard show.

    Bravo.

  • As usual.. nice clip - nice song - nice voice - nice lighting - nice set... you know the drill!
