  • Lovely theme tune, but a bit strange

  • Dig that 12 string guitar!

  • Theme from James May

  • Crossroads was the best programme - ever! I miss it!

  • iconic 20th century tv theme

  • let's face it the show was shit .... i only tuned in at the end for the tune and the sliding titles.... sad but true

  • My Mum didn't believe me when I said Ronald Allen was a bender....lol.

  • swingers.all of them.

  • This was one of the first TV themes I learned to play on the keyboard years ago.

  • Grrrr! Memories were then shattered with a 'Honda' ad-banner in front! Annoying in-your-face advertising! Yes, I know YT need to advertise......

  • Better than eastenders!

  • sadly this has brought back memories how crap this was

  • @JacquesZupp yeah poles are amazing -how else are we supposed to keep our tents up ?

  • Vic Flick Top session man of the 60`s played the 12 string Electric (VOX MODEL)on this recording

  • interesting the end credits did cross over no other tv prog can i remember that happening. very witty :-)

  • Awful television.

  • @biobaird Yes, anything with Simon Cowell IS awful television.

  • i remember watching this every evening at dinner with family was a ritual part of TV life

  • Tony Hatch did crucify TVs Clarinet Man - Ken Worthington on New Faces though.

  • Would love to find the version with the Lyrics - Anyone know where I can find it ?

  • For all the wobbly sets and bad acting they got the end credits to run perfectly!

  • I loved this show, Noel Gordon was just so wonderful in the role. It was never the same without her.

  • Is that Kenneth Cope's younger brother coming in in a suit and ordering a room?

Johnny Briggs was in No Hiding PLace

  • tony hatch really was a genius and should have been knighted

  • I be Benny. lol

  • My mum used to secretly fancy David Hunter (actor Ronald Allen) and watched the show religiously.

  • @woodster1965 so did I then! now I think he looks lame! remember cook Amy Turpin? she was a hoot!!

  • Captain Sensible hated Aston Villa quite rightly so

  • Crossroads was'nt the same when miss diane died it went downhill from 1987 onwards

  • oh yes, how wonderful to see and hear this. I remember how Amy Turtle used to fluff her lines regularly! And whatever happened to Benny?

  • I actually used to watch this, chuff me I do feel old remembering it and I'm only 34.

  • I LOVE mp3iffy it WORKS just google mp3iffy.

  • thanks for posting the theme, great program in the early days, Nice to see ATV was able to proved this program to the networks

  • i always remember amy turtle always forgetting her lines lol

  • Ah Crossroads.

Where the sets moved more than the actors.

  • @wenger1972 : or possibly the acting was more wooden than the sets!!

  • It's not quite the version used on TV which had much more "urgency". It sounds like it is being played on a clarinet or something here. The twangy guitar bits sound rougly the same, though.

  • this is cool classic.

  • Wonderful. Great clips and the theme tune in full. Thanks for posting.

  • I'd love to hear something Simon Cowell has written and played!

  • this was the true age of televison cowell couldnt release any that could last thirty years

  • @pinnell40 or thirty seconds!

  • tony hatch at his peak perfomance.

  • I'd pay double for a guitar as twangy as this...

  • They just stuck the sign outside an old social services building or dentist surgery.

  • that old dyke used to chat up one of my friends [ a young girl dancer ] when she was on tour in GYPSY

  • @lhrlyc Really? What a surprise! Your comment made me smile. My mother though she was a really nice person. Just goes to show!

  • wow....!

  • God my kids have missed out in life

  • On being sacked from Crossroads, Noel Gordon is purported to have said that she was "too young to be thrown OFF the rubbish heap".

  • @AngloAmalgamated

one year later after ratings slipped they got her back for a one of episode, and tried to get her back full time, it is said that she died of a broken heart at being kicked out, as she passed away soon after this episode

  • @AngloAmalgamated susan hanson (miss diane) recently said she`d like to do some comedy -was`nt crossroads comedy?

  • Oh the glamour, the glitz and the big spectacles.

  • I see Johnny Briggs in the credits!

  • So Johnny Briggs went from "Crossroads" to "Coronation Street" (where he played Mike Baldwin). Is that a step up or a step down on the career ladder?

  • What do you think?

  • step down, Crossy was on 4 nights a week with 15m viewers!

  • Where's Sandy? Where's Benny? And why did Meg always look so sad? Maybe she knew she'd never get another job after running Crossroads . . .

  • amazing to archive these classic shows - what memorys relived

  • benny hawkins should have got a spin off programme of his own ,called simply "benny".

  • Totally agree bring Sue Hanson back as Miss Diane's twin!

  • Did Benny ever find his spanner?

  • dont you just miss it loads i do

  • crossroads? , more like acorn antiques

  • loved the programme, but adam chance looked lika a 70's porn star.

  • He does sound like a gay porn star...

  • It's what Acorn Antiques wa based upon.

  • Great stuff, great theme for a show, unfairly knocked as the DVD sales have proved.Shame no clips of Amy Turtle,Miss Luke or Benny.Love Miss Diane staggering into reception, half cut.lol

  • yes keith64 he did a version of this title son think it was the early 80's he did it with wings mate

  • Johnny Briggs was in these credits, aka Mike Baldwin of Corrie.

  • Coronation Street,speak properly

  • I can remember Paul McCartney did a version of the theme tune with Wings which was used. Anyone else remember?

  • I remember it was on the Venus & Mars Album

  • Which is a fantastic album, won't hear a word said against Wings... well, apart from the dodgy drug-fuelled lyrical ramblings of Jimmy McCulloch, who should've stuck to playin the guitar...

  • I remember when Paul McCartney done it too, I thought it sounded really cool so It was one of the first songs I taught myself on my electric guitar. Everyone loves it.

  • yeh it was used at the sad endings!!!!!

  • @keith64

They used the Wings version in the late 70s to end emotionally-charged episodes (eg. Sharon Metcalfe forgets to lock the the garage or Shughie burns a sauce). Except for Benny - he had his Theme like when Maureen jilted him/got run over. The fact that I know this stuff is a source of eternal anguish and shame.

  • @keith64 youtube.com/watch?v=4Ewnzgg4qUE&feature=related

  • I wonder if the Xroads Theme had any lyrics to it as EastEnders had with "Anyone Can Fall in Love" by Anita Dobson.

  • There were at least two versions of the Crossroads Theme with the Tony Hatch Orchestra - this, I think, is the later one. The original (and perhaps better, that's a personal preference) dates from 1964 and is on the reverse side of 'Goodbye', the single made by the cast to mark the show's demise in 1988.

  • Brings back some many nostalgic memories

  • The fabulous 1975 Tony Hatch PYE version of the theme. Love it.

  • bring back crossroads
