I've tried so many times, and cannot reach the bottom. Do you have any tips? Why would you need your hoe? Some kind of secret staircase?

Yep, exactly! You have to take your chances with the X-shaped cracks for most of the trip, but if you manage to make it to the 90s or so that way, then you can start working toward the final goal with the hoe. Use it to look around for secret staircases that are guaranteed to bring you ONE level down (which is why you should mostly use cracks, to go many levels at a time, but play it safe and sure near the end when a crack is more likely to blow you back up instead of advance you).

It's only accessible during the Winter season, when Lake Cave (in the separate preserve area accessed by the far left of the village) freezes over. Walk across the icy area where the water once was, and you'll see the cave entrance. Good luck!

I got to level 91, full stamina because I didn't bother with any rocks/crystals above it. I accidentally fell in a hole after grabbing an EMERALD. It sent me up to level 83, where I continued to jump into holes that sent me up every time I fell into them. 8 holes up in a row. I was growing increasingly irritated. I had ONE swing of a hammer or cast of a rod left, and I accidentally fell down to level 99. I was like "....you're shitting me." :|

xD Ohemgee, I remember recording that line... It was my very first experience with WMM and it was being majorly malfunctional. All audio kept disappearing after a certain point and I had to re-record it like five times, if not more. So I was pretty desperate to get it overwith without it dying again. When I tried it that time and the audio worked but the weird sound was there, I was like, "o_o You know what... MAYBE... no one will notice. Yeah. Yeah that's it. It's perfect now. SAVE MOVIE. X_X"

Honey and Cake are great energy-boosters. But sometimes I'm lazy and just bring a whole bunch of eggs and sashimi. xD The very BEST thing when you're desperate is the Bravo Drink (recipe acquired from Michael at 5 hearts, made in the Mixing Pot given by Saibara at HIS 5 hearts). Always cook up some of those in advance for your hard-work days. It takes away drowsiness AND replenishes stamina COMPLETELY, even if your sleepy meter's got both eyes closed & you're one hammer-swing away from collapse!

xD I've never done it before, since my own character has only caught, like, one... o_o But I totally would if I was better at getting down there. =P He gets plenty of Huchen from me, though, which is also a King fish, and going by that, he'll just give the normal favorite-loved-item response. Nothing, really - you can ship it, or cook it, or give it to Ray as a gift... xD I'd probably suggest shipping it. But it doesn't matter, because I'm pretty sure just CATCHING it will get it onto your fish list in the menu.

Do you use Windows Movie Maker? There should be a "Narrate Timeline" button (with a picture of a microphone) near the bottom, usable if you have a mic connected to the computer. For music, you can "Import" an audio file and drag it to the "Audio/Music" section on the project after setting it to "Timeline" mode (as opposed to Storyboard).

If you don't use WMM, then I have no idea how to use any other programs; sorry. ^^; Good luck!

Well, you get one for reaching the hundredth sublevel, but not specifically for catching the King. But catching the Jamasquid DOES contribute to the Expert Angler Note (which comes when you catch one of every kind of fish in the game). ^^

That's the Jamasquid that's being described, from a close-up on the Rucksack, taken just after she caught it. But the magical color-change-ness there is supposed to be like thinking ahead of what the stuff of legends heard so much about might look like, you know... xD
