p.s. in 08 subaru modified the maf/ecu making the cars more sensitive to cai mods..but my 10 sti seems to like the way its set up(see below)the cobb map leans it out,but warm air causes a car to run richer..so by having the intake set up like it is i still get the xtra pwr/throttle response ,yet car runs a litte richer..richer is safer..its an even trade..plus i no longer get rain/bugs in filter(stick a cai low in fender bay you may injest wtr if you hit standing wtr)not worth risk to me
i previously owned 04 sti,cai/dp/fact muff(no tune/no prob/drove it 120k miles)06 legacy gt,cai/avo top mount intercooler/bov/perrin dp/spt exhst(no tune/no prob drove it 142k miles..still ran strong when sold..now have 2010 sti(cobb stg 1 lwg map/spt exhst/modded fact intake by removing restrictive intake snorkel and installed k/n filter(have driven 20k miles)no cockpit resonation..not installing dp cuz the car is perfect as of now..could do aem cai,but no need to..lotza pwr/sounds mean too
If you change the Air Intake you HAVE TO rescale your Maf sensor, which you need a re-tune for. No questions, i know this for a FACT. For the exhaust only you wouldn't need a retune if it was Cat back only, but if it was all the way to the turbo you would need to retune for wastegate duty cycle.
did you get a tune at all after you installed this? because i read that if you put cold air on, you can "lean" your engine. Im just wondering cause i just installed cold air and exhause on my 05 wrx, and wondering if i should get a cobb tune after..
first thing to do is buy the 'Cobb Access Port' and tune it right away. Crawford's air/oil separator can have your subaru running forever. live long and prosper.
cai aren't good for subarus, only two intakes r approved for them it's the cobb and spt. had an injen and caused engine mgmt problems, went with cobb sf and perfect
Hey, now that you've had this system for a while, can you recommend it? I have read a lot on forums about CAI making the WRX run lean, can you confirm this? Or have you had smooth sailing since the install? Any water problems?
@66kustomkat Meh I am not so sure. You only have 2 mods? Intake and exhaust. So that is about a 35HP gain. You still have less horsepower and less torque. Not to mention the 08's are lighter. Also don't plan on going around any corners against an 09 with an 08 unless you have done suspension work. The 08 is really floppy.
Hey man, did you get a COBB tune or did you get it tuned at a known garage? I heard the MAF sensor goes off and also heard that they're not making SPT intakes for the 08-09 WRX/STi's. Which I think is lame as fuck! But mad props on your car I like the sound I'm thinking about getting an AEM intake myself.
get the xpt stage 1 tune. its alot more powerful than cobb and cobb wont work with any aftermarket intake. The xpt stage 1 tune is made for the aem cai. i have had this setup for almost a year and its been amazing.
I read on their site that a walboro fuel pump is required for the 09 wrx. I don't wanna add a fuel pump right now... I guess I'll ask them if they will do a custom set up?
dont believe all the crap you here about tune this and tune that blah blah blah, i have a catless downpipe, cold air intake and spt exhaust with NO tune car runs fine
@krnhaechan30 My car is obviously an 08 it's right there in the video, and what makes you think your car HAS to have a tune? Because someone told you? Do your research don't ask Cobb or someone selling something, go talk to Subaru entusiasts and mechanics people who know Turbo powered cars Before I did anything to my car I researched it for months and being a car guy prior to owning a Subi decided to go for modding without a tune and have't had any problems at all Intake DP and Exhaust runs xlnt
What does it make me think? Because I researched it? Because someone told me? Sure.. why not I never asked Cobb for anything... I actually go on forums and research around there, nasioc, awdpirates, iwsti, wrxtuners, etc etc.
put some spacers in the exhaust where the muffler connects to the exhaust and then it will sound sick. there's some videos on here of them wit Subaru's
I can't seem to find anything on putting spacers in the exhaust; can you help me out with a link, or name with pictures or video showing and explaining this procedure?
What subby owner, I got the same car with the SPT exhaust was thinking of an intake so thanks for the vid. Did you have to tune the chip.Alot of people dont like the 08,to be honest the suspension/tires are soft but can be upgraded,i like the softer ride though.the car dont stand out which is good cause havent got a ticket yet I flew bye some cops but since it is not flashy they didnt notice as much. my bro got an 09 subby he blew the motor in less than 3 mos,the turbo is too high tuned.
i have this intake and exhaust setup on my 08 and you dont HAVE to tune but if you dont you shouldnt floor it in 4&5 gear if its colder than 70 degress F out cuz then you will probably get boost cut (which is when your engine does a turbo surge for you, which is bad+scary). I tuned mine with the XPT stage 1 map. The numbers that come out of the XPT map+the intake are redic: 280wtq, 224whp(for those who dont know the hp is the same as an sti/evo and the tq is way way way above an sti/evo.
I appreciate all the feedback about having the car tuned with the CAI, but considering my car was the test vehicle used by AEM in the development of the intake, yes just as WRXRrrrr90 stated it was designed by SPT and AEM, it is a direct bolt on part that requires no tuning and knowing how AEM feels about lawsuits and liability I feel extremely confident that I don't need to worry about it. I also got my SPT exhaust from AEM as my car was also used for the re-working of the exhaust for SPT.
you dont have to tune this intake. it was designed by SPT and AEM to be very similar to the oem intake. a tune would bring more hp out of the engine but by no means does the AEM cai need a tune to run properly
Have you logged where your AFR's are at? The stock tune isn't all the great in some spots. I would highly consider a tune for safety.
The new AEM is a great intake, but a couple tuner's have said it caused a sti stage 2 map to get to lean to safely pull a baseline dyno pull before starting a tune.
you can't hear the intake cause it's not a short ram, I have one on my 06 and it's loud as hell, you hear the turbo more, nad the bypass valve, get the spt short ram you'll like it better, plus it's better for the ECU on subaru's.
yes, we are very happy with it. We love it. (Im the one revving it) We noticed a very nice top power gain in the higher RPMS as well as making our SPT exhaust louder.
Did the Aem intake make the BPV much louder?

False. Don't talk about things you don't know. There are problems with about 3-4% of the engines in the july/august/september build.
