  • Ya had me going with the title: Ann and Grace 'backups' to what? A howitzer? Tactical nuke?Good God.

  • @hermitcrabbot LOL,did I,I guess that is an eye brow raiser!! : )

  • ann looks diffrent not all dreesed up, butt still beautiful

  • When Ann and Nancy talk about their influences and inspirations they always seem to talk about British rockers, etc. I certainly hear Page in their music. But they never mention Grace or the Airplane and I ALWAYS here them in there, not just on this song where Grace is actually there.

  • @WillInNewHaven Yes,I do too, interesting take for sure.

  • I've spent time with Grace on multiple occassions - very gracious, sweet and kind. Bravo Grace !

  • @Timothy1311 Cool, I can see that !

  • completely wondeful together: powerful female rock goddess

discover but...i felt like i did recognize ..

  • ann wilson said in a 1985 article that she thought grace slick was the only good female rocker out there but i think she was talking about the 1970s.

ann seems so demure here but on stage she was like a whirlwind of power and professionalism in 1985. it's hard to believe how women like this can be so gifted and powerful but seem ordinary in their everyday lives.

  • Imagine how fantastic it would have been for Gs and Freddy Mercury to have been doing this.

  • Did Fossen play bass on this song? Or was it Mark Andes?

  • @kukaipaa I am pretty sure Steve was gone by this era, must have been Andes or a studio player? Not sure.

  • @lovesheart Yes, it was Mark Andes. Steve Fossen had left the band in 1982.

  • @kukaipaa - It was Mark Andes, since, Mark Andes joined Heart when they recorded Passionworks, which was the album prior to their self-titled album Heart.

  • @kukaipaa Mark Andes for sure.

This was their" comeback" album for Capital, Steve and Michael gone.

  • I watched Grace Slick sing in Wally Heider studio in SF in '71. Sat and talked with her in the coffee room and found her to be much gentler than her image, almost insecure.

  • @duffh Really, that's very cool,I guess there is Stage Grace and private Grace!

  • @lovesheart So true!! Two in a class of their own, doubt if we'll ever see any one to top either of them EVER!! Just wish they had done more together for posterity's sake!!

  • @lovesheart So true!! Two in a class of their own, doubt if we'll ever see any one to top either of them EVER!! Just wish they had done more together for posterity's sake!! Says me, northlandlady!

  • @lovesheart well yeah,,, GRACE is so kind and cool when you meet her in person, nothing like the stage persona,, well that being said for in the last ten years ,,, or so

  • @johnnyleonard1 Far out,I believe the same can be said for the lovely Wilsons!

  • Love it, love it .....Grace Slick is such an inspiration to me, Ann is right up there!!!!

  • Anne Wilson is descended from Stevie Nicks and Grace Slick.

When it came to "ballsy lady rocker", Grace Slick set the pace.

I can imagine Slick singing her own solo of this song.

  • WAY COOL!! I didnt know Slick sang back-up on this song.Truely awesome!!! THANX 4 Shareing!!!

  • REALLY enjoyed watching this LOVE them both! XD rock on!

  • Bloody wow! The two ballsiest female singers ever right next to each other!

  • @ega95jch Pretty amazing piece of vid aye!

  • Even when Ann just talks, she sounds beautiful and amazing.

  • @chicherchio I know,her voice is soo sexy!

  • This is sooo cool! I love all the videos of Ann in the studio. Do you have any vidoes of her recording Alone? Or anyother songs??

  • @ILuvAnnWils0n Not at this time, but I'm hoping to get some new footage soon, and I will post.

  • @lovesheart ok, thats great!! Thank u!! Do you kno what videos you might be getting??

  • @lovesheart Ok, thats awesome! Thank u! Do you know what songs you might be posting..?

  • @ILuvAnnWils0n Yeah the mtv stuff, hopefully they will be allowed to stay up,as we just lost Hijinx.

  • @lovesheart That sucks, hopefully you can keep your videos up!! Thanks for telling me!

  • This is so cool. Grace Slick and Ann Wilson. They seem to get along pretty well. Very cool to see this so many years later, thanks. Ann is gorgeous btw. Very pretty woman indeed. Love :)

  • Grace had a kick ass voice herself. Really powerful. This is so cool.

Power ballads were everywhere in the 80's (and most were horrible), but WAL was a cut above - much better than "Alone", imo.

  • Might I just add that Ann looks absolutely gorgeous in this video.

  • Please tell me there is some footage of Ann singing the lead vocal on this song. It's spine tinglingly good.

  • @adam872 I wish I did,it would have been posted long ago, however I'm gonna review the stuff i have not posted, some of it has damaged audio unfortunately.Yeah Ann looks gorgeous as always, when I watch this I can't help but think its Dr Grace due to the jacket. :)

  • wow! i did not know about grace slick singing back up. truly two great talented singers. amazing!

  • WOW! The two greatest female rockers of ALL time!

  • Oh my God!! what happen with music nowadays? there's nothing like this!

I wanna cry when i heart it, REAL MUSIC that's what this is.

    Heart rocks!!!!!

  • Grace, I love you beautiful lady and I miss being able to see you on stage but I totally understand your retirement from rock. You have found another way to rock - your artwork.

  • Thats pretty cool.

  • Cool, indeed 2 legends together. Grace till this day still mesmorizes me in White Rabbit.

  • 1:30 to 1:47 is awesome. ann is about 34 years old here. this was recorded around january 1985 in san francisco.

these are the 2 greatest female rockers ever! forget what classic vh1 and the rock and hall hall of shame say.

  • This is totally AMAZING! I did not know that Grace Slick sings back-up in this track. 2 of the most legendary frontwomen of All-Time! Amazing vocals!!!!

  • Supposedly, it wasn't planned for both Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas to sing back-up at first. But not sure whose idea it was to add them. All I remember reading was, Starship was also recording an album at the time in the same building and was invited to sing back-up to the song What About Love. I'm thinking it was Peter Wolf's idea, the keyboard player of Starship, whom also played on Heart's "Heart" album.

  • Yeah, like when Alice Cooper grabbed Donovan from down the hall to do the second voice on the hit Billion dollar babies!

  • The odd thing is...I thought that chorus had a familiar sound to it...

  • Two of the best singers ever!! Lovesheart you have the best vids ever. Thanks so much.

  • I did not know that Grace sang on this! How cool!

  • How the hell did I not know Grace Slick sang on this F'n Album?

I worked for Sony/Columbia and never knew this!

  • wow awesome! two of the best female vocalists of all time! ~

  • This blows me away. Thank you so much for posting it!

  • Your welcome my pleasure.

  • Oh my God this is simply astonishing. Thanks for uploading.

  • Grace Slick is adorable, right at 0:21 when she is about to conitnue singing but is interupted!

  • Hearts new album is now @ 8 complete songs!

  • This is so cool, Ann & Grace!!

    LOVE IT , THANKS!

  • Where did u find this?! AWESOME!!!

  • grace slick is amazing

  • You gotta love Grace's reaction listening to this amazing vocal, she is blown away, Ann seems very comfortable in the studio, just another day at the office, what a pro, incredible talent.

  • I prefer Grace

  • @porcelaincougar I was just thinking the same thing. You can tell she's really digging it, especially Ann's vocal pyrotechnics at the end, which still make my eyes water even now. It's hard to express how good this vocal performance is.

  • I have dreamed of this union for so long! Gracie and Annie, they compliment each other. At like 0:25, Grace had a moment XD

  • I knew about GS on backup vocals on that Heart album. Nice to see video from those sessions. My fave GS are her own exploratory compositions in the Great Society/JA/JS/BVTCN, etc. Every now and then, I dust 'em off [LOL!] and spin them on webradio Surf City Sounds Plus. Fun is aloud and I like it! Enjoy! :)!

  • Wow -

    I didn't know this.

As much as i played the song -

This is interesting to see. :)

    Thanks.

  • Wet dream material. I adore both these women. What lung-power!!!

  • It really is Music history, thanx!

  • Wow, great footage!!! 2 of the best voices put together, just AMAZING!

  • Oh WOW!!! I never knew!!! This is awesome.

  • I always felt like that was Grace Slick doing backround, but wasn't sure because her and Ann Wilson sounded

    so much alike back then.

  • It's great to see new Heart material added to youtube! Especially the older stuff. Thanks for sharing :) I just added a video I made with the first Heartless that was ever released. The audio track is from the disputed Magazine album and is different from the Heartless that was re-released. I'm grateful to have a copy of this awesome album!

  • I love Grace Slick and Ann Wilson both! Thank you very much for posting this, it was very nice to see. :-)

  • Your welcome, glad to bring it to you all!

  • Thanks for these rare peaces of magic, where do you get all of this!?

Ann looks so beautiful as always. Heart has a new album coming? :O

  • the 2 best female vocalists in same studio booth?,wow!

  • I (HEART) the heck out of these behind the scenes looks at a master at work!

  • Also, what was going on there? Did Grace sing 'love' by accident and then it just remained on the recording?

  • Not sure Suzylux, more than likely a minor flub.I like how light hearted they are, probably pleased with the results and happy its almost a wrap!

  • Wow I never knew Grace Slick helped with the backup vocals (kinda forgot about her!). God, you just wonder who else is in the background of so many hit songs over the years.

This footage is amazing. It's amazing to see the process of a song which will just live on into eternity, And there they were one day in the studio, creating it for us. Awesome, thanks :)

  • Updates on the current Heart sessions thanks to Susan!

  • Day 5:

    Posted 28 January 2009 16:45

Ann is laying down vocals today... the studio is dark... late afternoon light is filtering in through the windows.

    She is in the shadows

Nancy is sitting in the booth with the engineer - and they both (Ann & Nancy) are discussing harmonies over the talk back microphone.

I feel like an intruder - and am hiding in the corner with my camera...grabbing footage.

This songs working title is "Closer"
