i have a vista and a sp3 and i got to tell u i like vista better cuz i got got a virus on sp3 called Spy Ware Gaurd 2008 which was fake virus protection and it rearanged my files on the sp3 and now it cant be fixed but a virus has a hrader time getting through on vista
When I installed VISTA update KB938371, my mouse quit and I had to unplug it to get my keyboard working. VISTA wouldn't let me uninstall the update. It also would not let me recover to a previous time, but said that I had to reinstall VISTA.
When I did, it wiped everything on the drive. After reinstalling everything on my drive, I disabled VISTA updating. I hate VISTA!
Vista doesn't reboot when you leave your computer for a few minutes like XP arbitrarily does when it installs updates ? Thats a feature ? Err... "Wow" ? So basically its like this: "oh look it didn't restart without my permission while I was making a coffee", this is now a "feature"...
sp1 is not a version of vista, it is just a collection of updates/fixes, hence the term, service "pack", so saying that its faster than ultimate, premium, basic etc, actually makes no sense, just some friendly info fyi :)
EEK when i installed sp3 it said it had to restart, so naturally i pressed ok, then when i turned it back on it screwed up my pc and i had to do system recovery because i couldent get past the safe mode screen, im kinda a noob to the whole thing but i was in a PANIC when all my info was gone from my desktop, but luckely i found it all...... did i download the wrong one ore something? could you also post a new link cause that one says content no longer available or somethin
i have sp3 and it is not much different but it will let you update to it when it wont let you update to sp2 so it is ok starts faster and is good i guess
The performance increase is very true. :) I installed it on my little machine, and it helped bigtime. :) It is only recommended for IT savvy people though! :D As it says on Microsoft's website.
Vista needs alot of memory because it turns on some of the protections such as UAC and protected mode during startup. In Vista, anything tries to install/change settings, its blocked until you say its ok. Its worth getting Vista
Windows Vista it more resources, if you want same speed with Vista comparing to XP, you will have to improve your PC hardware, but no because of that Vista is worst than XP. Get yourself 2GB of Ram and a Core 2 Duo ir Quad (You will benefit from 4 cores for several tasks at same time).
I switch to Vista for several securities issue (Parental Control and UAC to mention two) and Bought DX10 card and Core 2 Quad, results: literally I had to chain my PC to desktop, otherwise would go flying.
And forgot to say, I'm glad that finally SP1 is coming soon (RC1 is not final version), services pack are some good news because everybody knows Microsoft OSs comes with many bugs and securities issues that most be fixed.
Uhh... no, it's not, and to quote Wikipedia... "DirectX 10 ships with and is only compatible with Windows Vista; previous versions of Windows cannot run DirectX 10."
i switched back to XP and let me tell you that my computer performance has increased greatly; i dont think i will switch back to Vista unless i get more RAM:)

whats the diff between the service packs for xp? what do they do
echoes15 3 years ago
They just refine the existing software,Ironing out bugs and sometimes adding new functionality.
If it aint broke, don't try to fix it.
I have sp2 and have been downloading updates regularly for a while so I'm assuming ther won't be a lot of difference,if any,in the new update

so you mean that i dont have any problems and i have sp2 i shouldnt get the full sp3 on the xp?

No, though i do ave vista SP1
(Faster than vista ultimate,premium,basic)
Yes, it does have a massive performance boost, about 23.5%
better than any other windows vista
(Still crappier than XP sp1 RC2)
