its not a jet ne ways, its more of a rocket than ne thing. burning fuel forced out of a nozzle to create thrust. jet engines are a bit more fucking complicated
@oipbhakeld yeah more complicated than this but im an aircraft mechanic at honeywell and jet engines are very simple and easy to buil but it takes some money to build
this isnt a thermojet.... this is basically the same thing you get if you blow on a match. the only thrust it may produce unless you get A LOT more pressure behind it is the trust the fan produces. there is a reason they only use this kind of system for things like afterburners.
That is a very dangerous young man - you could start a bad fire. You should be doing this type of thing in the basement with the windows and doors tightly closed with filled gas cans and paint cans near by.
you could use it to heat a hot air balloon i am working on one but am using a mig welding carbon dioxoide canister with one ende cut of in the other end i will ket compressed air through then use a rag coated in deisel :)
haha you sound like a kid :D "and then i can take it apart and put it away then if mommy will let me i will play my legos " haha im not picking on you i just think the way you talk is funny
man i am making a soup can turbo jet in a couple of weeks, this is my small tutorial, first make some fixed blades attached to the container, like steam turbines. Posisition your shaft with your rotating blades in between each set of fixed ones. Use a pump and kero but make sure you pump the kero through a mist nozzle. Use some spark plugs to light it up and it should work perfectly.
thats just a man-made fire with a brushless computer fan feeding it oxygen. i have a good project for you to create one day...you get a large propane tank...set it up real good...you want as much radial force potential output as possible for it to work ok? and then what you do is smash it with a flaming bat man its so cool oh my god.
The principle is sound. Your fan however, does not compress the air. I am not sure this fan type would be powerful enough, or what level of compression would be needed - you could try again by fitting a cone shape right behind the fan, forcing the air into a smaller area. This should compress it if the fan has enough power. Also try gaseous fuel for easier combustion. good luck with future projects!
holy shit man thats amazing. fuck rolls royce. you should go into business making engines for all the modern jets. never seen anything so powerfully jet like! what a little gay prick. get a life!
The only possible way this could be entertaining is if you burned your eyebrows off, then it'd be halarious. Do you honestly mean to tell us that you couldn't find anything better anything more productive to do with the time you spent building this, such as playing in traffic.
u sound old or constipated also ur an idiot for taking the fan out of a computer or something like that! its got soo many wires! you could get one at ur computer specialist for like 7 bucks or less.
I tried it once but at a easier way...I used only a can and filled it up with some old OIL 2:5 to the can...but before you need to heat it up over 60°C and after than you can set it into fire...after it burns from itself... but only on a low flame... sooo we have an aircompressor and I have blowed into the can under a controled pressure and slowly get over 400°C or more I didn't had a thermometer
but for everyone!! MAKE IT ONLY FOR YOUR OWN RISK because it burns like gasoline!
pretty much you made a flame-thrower. You need a much more powerful fan then that plus use a flammable gas instead of a flaming towel. P.S. try making a jam jar pulse jet it is pretty simple and has significant trust depending on how it is made or also try a Chinese Pulse Jet also pretty simple just need simple welding skills. You can find planes on the internet
I've stepped up to using propane fuel for subsequent run and had electronic ignition. There were actually "jet engines" that worked like this; I've called this a ThermoJet but one web site (Search for "Scott's Homage To the Motorjet") calls them "motor jets" instead due to the fact the compressor is driven by a separate motor or internal combustion engine.
I did try making a pulse jet (well, more of a "pulse combustor") with a muffler off my car.
A thermojet is more successful when you use a bigger motor and one thats faster. But i agree there were jets like that. your next attempt should be a turbo jet. Also take people step by step if you do it
@havaden96 (1/2) I still disagree, he called it a thermojet, what i believe he was trying to build was a ram jet. A ramjet works by using already fast moving air. A computer fan is hardly fast moving air. The thrust on that flamethrower would be what the computer fan is pushing and that is almost nothing. Also adding an axle and another fan in the way of the flames would do nothing, i am assuming that is what you mean.
@havaden96 (2/2) By adding an axle you would be attempting to create a turbojet but a turbojet needs precise fitting parts. You could use a car turbocharger like most people do. search for this "Do-It-Yourself Turbocharger Turbojet" remove the quotes, it should be the first video that appears. It should help and explain a lot of questions
I know what HEET is; I made some methyl-alcohol rockets out of 20 oz soda bottles using that as fuel. However, alcohol burns with an almost colorless flame so I won't be able to see it in daylight.
Right on, Miles !!!! Ummmm, there are some really basic flaws with this design, for sure, but it's a starting point. Yuandrew, keep going. You'll get there, eventually. Just as a tip, you'd do well to invest in a rivet gun, instead of duct tape. There's a heap of sites out there, that will have you in the hot seat, before you know it. Take care.
I am really angered by all these idiotic comments.
Seriously, what did you all start with? A jam jer pulsejet I'll guess. This is a great start, simplistic, but you don't just make an amazing thing on your first attempt! And, this is a true thermojet, since a motor in the computer fan powers it's equivalent of a turbine.
I don't know if you are up for suggestions, but add another fan:
Try this design,
Air-->(Fan)(Soup Can)(Soup Can)(Fan)---->Exit
the second fan you invert, so basically it sucks the air through the outlet as a spiral. But the second fan will have to be metal, like a metal bathroom exhaust fan.
I dunno i just got that idea watching yours. Im currently building a quad turbine engine dune buggy type thing
The "Induced Draft" fan probably won't really help since it should be "Forced Draft" as I want higher pressure inside the combustion chamber. I already replaced the second soup can with a long aerosol can that has the valve area cut off to form a narrow opening as a nozzle.
I haven't really been working on this for a while since I recently acquired a turbocharger which I'm planning to use as a core for the gas turbine/jet engine I will eventually be building.

do even understand how a turbine, this is a thermic engine works?..
the fuel isnt burning, its injected to burn totally in the combustion,, not to sit there.. the air as actually to be compressed and not just running through.. that fan would never do it.. and fuel is probably too weak to creat usable air expansion.. but hey good luck
You is taking the piss no? A compuer cooling fan blowing smoke and flames from a paint thinner soaked piece of paper! Jesus christ almighty, my 6 year old son has bigger plans than that!
I used a leaf-blower on my stove and got the same result.
Your computer fan has more thrust alone than the entire device...And your combustion chamber comes before your fuel and ignition source. It makes no sence.
im 15 and i made one out of a automatic air bed pump and 2 cans and it actualy has complete combustion(blue flame) which creates more thrust than a little yellow flame. ill post a vidoe reposonse to this soon
Compression rings any bell? :))

Hmmm...
