  • i have usb port in my router? Why for?

  • @pyridoxide Some routers will have a USB which allows you plug in and share a hard drive or printer with all of the computers on your network. Take a look at your routers manual. It will tell you what the USB port can be used for.

  • @hpcbdvd I just got cisco dpc3825 and when i plug in my flash drive im not sure how to share it. Should I use any programs? I could not find anything in the manual.

  • @pyridoxide The USB port on the Cisco dpc3825 is for connecting your modem through USB instead of the usual Ethernet connection. You can't add another device using the USB port.

  • @hpcbdvd Thank you. Interesting videos and handy replay! I'm gonna subscribe your channel. You are awesome!

  • I have my internet provided through ethernet cable. I plug the net cable into a router's ethernet socket and then plug my 2way ethernet cable into router's ethernet socket and my PC's ethernet socket. The router shows that he finds the ethernet, but doesn't transfer to pc somehow

  • @kebubas The Ethernet cable coming from your internet provider's modem needs to go into the router's Internet or WAN port. Another Ethernet cable goes from one of the LAN ports on the router to your computer's Ethernet port. If it is a cable modem that should get you online. If it is a DSL modem you may have to change some settings in the router's configuration utility. Section 3 Lesson 1, which is here on YouTube, shows you how.

  • @hpcbdvd thank you, I'll check it out later :)

  • very modest

  • Can someone help me with this concept please. What is the point of a modem and router setup? why would you not just use a dsl wireless 4 port router?

  • @ihatestupidpeople232 "gay ass scrub kids, he should have punched him" right ? whell fuck you fucking retarded 40year old cunt, i ain't helping you nooby, you are the worst dad(if you are one) evr.

  • @ihatestupidpeople232 btw you hate stupid people right ? whell you're one fucking twat.

  • @ihatestupidpeople232 A router is usually required if you have a cable modem, because most of them to not have a built in router. Most DSL modems do have a router built in to share Internet access.

  • hello , do you have a tutorial of peer to peer and a server 8 or more pc ? please help me..

  • @pampahify I'm not sure what you're looking for.

  • @hpcbdvd i mean , if i connect 8 or more pc with a server, what should i do ?

  • @pampahify The series this video is part of shows a peer to peer set up, peer to peer being computers that are all connected together but not using a central server they all log into. They can still share files, printers, etc. You can have 8 or more with peer to peer. We don't have a video that shows using a central server.

  • so do i need to buy another ehernet cable or can i just use a phone cable please hep

  • @BROSTERYO You do need another Ethernet cable.

  • for the second ehernet cable does it have to be a ehernet cable or can it be a phone card because they look the same please help

  • @BROSTERYO Ethernet and telephone cables are different. They have different wires and connectors and are not interchangeable.

  • That must be the Dlink 655 router

  • @iExD Yes is it .

  • @hpcbdvd Do you recommend me getting this router? My max. internet download speed for file downloads is 160kb/sec. :( .

  • @iExD It won't improve you download speeds, paying for faster service from your ISP is the only way to improve that. It should work with any modem and let you share the Internet connection and files and printers between computers.

  • Can a Westell modem connect to a netgear router correctly, and then give me wireless in my house?

  • @RyGuylegos Without knowing the model number of the modem and router it hard to say for sure but it should work.

  • i have a verizon gt704wgb dsl modem could i connect another wireless router to it if it already has one built in

  • @Capcomfresh Yes you can. That modem/router has 4 Ethernet ports on the back. You can connect another router to it by connecting the new routers WAN or Internet port to one of the Ethernet ports on the gt704wgb with a standard Ethernet cable. The reason you might want to do something like this is to add faster wireless n networking between your computers. This won't increase the Internet connection speed but will increase the speeds you see when transferring files between computers.

  • thanks! the only one that showed me how to hook it up to my modem!

  • what type of wire should i use when connecting cable modem to router, straight or crossover?

  • @Quiknfast You should use a straight. For those who want to know the difference between straight and crossover ethernet cables you can Google search for "crossover vs straight cable" The home network help dot com link has a good explanation.

  • PLEASE REPLY: uh, my modem has only two ports. one for usb and one for ethernet. my modem's WAN port cant fit an ethernet cable. wat do i do?!?!?!

  • @rockybalboa459 What model modem and router do you have?

  • @hpcbdvd RCA modem and netgear dgn2200

  • @rockybalboa459 The dgn2200 is a Netgear ADSL and wireless router combo. You also have an RCA modem which is a cable modem. Are you using the RCA modem and try to use the dgn2200 as a wireless router? If so I don't think you can. The dgn2200 doesn't have a WAN or Internet port on the back to connect it to another modem.

  • @hpcbdvd ah. so it IS impossible. thanks for the help :)

  • can we make our internet wireless after Installing a USB Wireless Network Adapter. plz reply..

  • @nikhil319333 You also need a wireless router. Your ISP may have given you a modem/wireless router combo unit. Give them a call to verify what you have. If you don't have a wireless router you can buy one from Walmart for about $40. This video and the videos that follow in the series show you how to install and setup a wireless router and get all your computers connected wirelessly to it to share Internet access, printers and files.

  • @hpcbdvd thanks

  • i dont know much about computers but my modem is currently connected to the computer by a usb cable. im trying to connect a wireless router but cant as the connection is usb. i replace the usb with an ethernet cable but then the internet doesnt work. how can i convert from usb to ethernet? or set up my router with my current settings?

  • @anntorr Thats not uncommon for the modem to be connected to your computer with a USB cable. Changing over to an Ethernet cable should be a problem. I would first skip connecting the router and make sure you can get the modem and computer connected and working with the Ethernet cable connection. Your ISP has to help you get that working if you can not. Once that works, connect the modem to the router with an Ethernet cable and connect a computer close to the router with an Ethernet cable.

  • @hpcbdvd You can then follow along with the instructions in Section 3 Lesson 1 of these videos to get it all working.

  • @hpcbdvd Thanks

i have contacted my ISP and there is a problem with the ethernet slot on the modem

now waiting for a technician to come...

  • thankkkkkkkkks to the comment i thought i had to connect the router to my pc all the time but just once to configured the router! thanks

  • why u connect 2, don't u just connect one from the modem and then scan with the pc for a router? that's what i thought......cuz if u still connect it, it's not wireless anymore....

  • @adinaa18 It's best to connect at least one computer using ethernet so you can configure the router. After it's configured you can disconnect the ethernet and connect to the router wirelessly.

  • wtf???? theres 2 ethernet cables

  • Yes. One to connect the modem to the router and the other to connect the router to your computer.

  • 1 comes with your service provider and 1 comes from the box right( router box)

  • You probably have one from your ISP unless your computer is connected to the modem with a USB cable which is not uncommon. Most routers do come with 2 ethernet cables. You need to make sure you computer has an ethernet port on the back as shown in the videos.

  • his voice is classic

  • Thanks. I like to think so.

  • lol ur welcome

  • @hpcbdvd

what ethernet cable is used to connect a router to a modem???

  • A standard CAT5 or CAT6 Ethernet cable.

  • I don't believe that 2740b will work in your case. You need to plug the coax cable into your Motorola modem. On the modem there is an Ethernet port, probably labeled Computer that you would normally connect to the Ethernet port on your PC. That is the port you need to connect to the WAN port on a router. You don't have a WAN port on that 2740b because it is not a stand alone router. It's made to only accept an input from its internal DSL modem. You need a stand alone router as shown in video.

  • Yes it does have an integrated DSL modem, so you connect the DSL cable from the wall to the DSL port and your computer to one of the Ethernet ports. You will have to configure the modem in the routers setup. Section 3 Lesson 1 of these videos shows how to do this.

  • The DSL port does take an Ethernet cable unless it's an actual DSL modem in the router which is why I asked what model of router this is.

  • The modem would plug into the DSL port. A cable modem will work as well. The 4 Ethernet ports are for any computers you want to connect that are close to the router. Your other computers can connect wirelessly. What router is this?

  • come cristo parli...mamma mammaa!!!

  • Great its help me soo much but only one Qutesion how to instal a wifi setting in windows ?

  • is there a way i could connect 2 routers using only one modem????? please reply

  • Yes. You connect the modem and one of the routers the regular way. Then you connect the 2 routers together using a crossover cable. You can find this type of cable at most computer stores and online. You plug one end of the cable to one of the regular ethernet ports on the router connected to the modem. The other end of the crossover cable connects to other router.

  • This other router is basically just a switch, wired or wireless and will share the network access and Internet access to all of the computers connected to it, wired or wirelessly.

  • i have 2 routers and i am connect through speedtouch. How can i connect speed touch to my D-link 655 router? please help.

  • Do you mean you have two modems or two routers? What are you trying to accomplish?

  • I have 2 routers and what i am trying to accomplish is to have a greater coverage by connecting the 2 routers to each other by Ethernet.

Note: my speedtouch(G) is ADSL i want to Connect it to a broadband router which is d-link 655(N).

  • You would have to separate the routers with a long run of Ethernet to have any effect. If they were side by side the second router won't help at all. That said, what you need is a crossover Ethernet cable. It's a cable where a few of the wires in one of the connectors are reversed. You plug one end into any of your first routers Ethernet ports and the other to one of the Ethernet ports on the other router or switch. The second router will become just a switch. Continuing to next reply...

  • You need to check the second routers manual to be sure it can operate as a switch and if it can which Ethernet port to connect the crossover Ethernet cable to.

  • can i send the connection to ps3 from pc via the router by just connecting the ps3 with the router via another ethernet cable on one of the other ports?

  • The PS3 has wireless G built in. So it can connect to your wireless router and get an Internet connection. It can also share files with the other computer in your house that are connected to the wireless router. The connections can be done with an ethernet cable as well. If the computer or device is in the same room as the wireless router it's best to connect with an ethernet cable. Almost all wireless routers also have at least 4 ethernet ports.

  • I can't stress enough that you need to watch the entire series of videos. The website link is in the description of this video. All of the videos are currently free on that site.

  • thnx for all these helps i subed.

  • hey man is netgear a good brand.. because im tryin to setup a wireless internet conection and im tryin 2 buy a good router.. any u would recomend ?? that r cheap and fast?

  • There are so many. Netgear is good. The Belkin N+ Wireless Route recently got a great review at cnet and it's $100. The one we use in the videos is a D-Link 655 and it performed very well. I believe you can get it for under $100

  • You do still need a wireless router share the Internet.

  • I have a pretty noob question....i use a desktop computer with dsl internet and want to connect to my sister's laptop network from time to time, so do i still need a router to connect to her laptop, or do i just need a wireless network adapter?

  • mam wrażenie, że lektorem jest Termit żaba

  • i would like to connect my PS3 to the internet. I have a computer with a modem in an another room. What do i need to connect my PS3 to the internet and the computer at the same time?

  • do what the vid says and ur done go to ps3 network and go all the way down and pick it then pick internet settings choose custom then put wireless then scan it will find it pick it and your done

  • All routers have a built in firewall. You can turn off the firewall on just about every router. I don't know if turning of the router for just one computer is an option. What you could do is install a free software firewall on the computer you want to protect. Comodo is a good one. Google it. Zone Alarm has a free firewall as well.

  • Hi, excellent video tutorial. I need to ask a question please, if I install a router to act purely as a firewall for one computer is this ok? Also, do all routers have a firewall or only certain routers? thanks.
