My father was a Ranger, my godfather was a Marine. I would not want to piss off either one of them. I have a huge amount of respect for ALL branches of the armed forces, and I understand the "sibling rivalry" for lack of a better phrase. There is no "Elite" member in the Army, we just all have different assignments and do certain training that has to do with the assignments we will be most likely incountering. Most of the people who question who is the best in the Army, typically are just civilians who have not done enough research to know that all the U.S. Armed forces are tasked differently.

Yes the Marines have boats and planes, but the unlike Navy with subs and carriers and Air Force with ACU gunships and f-22 raptors. The Sea, Land, and Air part is also part of the Ranger Creed.

Whenever we invade a country, we send the Marines in first. First the Marine Pilots come in, bomb someplace. Then they return to the ship where the Marine Sailors are. Then, we send in the Marine Infantry and secure some places, and then the Army comes in. Marines fight in three fronts, Army in one. USMC Oorah!

You have know idea what you are talking about. There is no Ranger test nor do they separate anybody from anybody and sounds more like your friend quit Ranger school or was peered. There really isn't anything to fail besides patrols and if you fail one you get another shot and if you fail again, you will recycle that phase and if you are kicked out because of failing patrols, you must really suck.

@Ryan12592 Special Forces refers to the Army Green Berets. Spec Ops mean "Special Operations" and refers to any unit that is capable of performing operations beyond normal duty (Direct action, counter intelligence, recon, etc). Special Forces, Rangers, SEALs, Parajumpers, etc.
they are trained in direct action which is a special op. direct action is a hit and run mission like a raid.... and yes they can spearhead conventional forces... but so can Green Berets, like in Iraq, they met up with the Kurdish and anti saddam forces and led very successful ground fights that would probably be considered conventional
Rangers are forces that are not really built for a special task, but are trained to spearhead any type of conventional force and be the first in a high value area. So that makes them a type of special operations
Special Forces is just the official name for green berets... Rangers ARE special operations just like the SEALS.... there is ONLY the 75th regiment, there are no other rangers besides the 75th

JOTC instructors were some great guys to work under.The 82nd was just finishing up there rotation before the monsoon season came in.I remember them telling us, to prepare to get wet.Rained every day like a mofo..lol Ft Sherman was a breath taking place,where death was a foot step away. It's sad to see that our younger generation will never experience JOTC.. Politics!!!!!!!!

rangers are not special force only the 75th ranger regement falls under special force the rest of the rangers are just light infantry which is exactly what the marines are. you could say that the rangers are like the army version of the marines. your joking...right? Yes, you are right on the 75th mountain division is more elite then the rest of the rangers. But the rangers training is longer, harder, and they do things the marines can't do. They are better trained and sent in to do suicide missions that marines/army infantry could not accomplish. The Rangers also have a large amount of better tactics and train on hell jumping and other things that no marines or army infantry train on.
Ok W/E you say but do admit that you were wrong on calling rangers special force when the only rangers that fall under special force are the 75th regement the rest of the rangers are light infantry that do not fall under special force but the rangers do go on (suicide missions) the ranger training wont be very hard for a marine for avg army infantry men who try out maybe but not the marines becase they are not conventional infantry use to moving in large armor they operate in small mobile groups
oh and by the way a regular ranger is in no way better then recon, recon falls under special force all other ranger regements that are not the 75th DONT . Recon falls under SOCOM both recon and regular marines are qualified to work side by side with SEALS although rangers work closley with DELTA when missions go sour . Rangers work with delta because there both part of the army and marines with seals because there in the navy. No hard feelings for tinking rangers are special force GO USA!

@nola305 also if you are talking about the Recon Rangers(long haired rangers)every batt has them they are more elite then the average ranger it's another selection and additional 22 weeks of hard training to be a RRD.Also the Rangers must be HALO and usually scuba before even trying out for RRD.these r the rangers that usually go on to CAG. Marines that r on rangers level would be the Recon Division.Force Recon(witch are now in MARSOC) are more on SEAL, army SF, RRD level.Rangers deserve respect

You have know idea what you are talking about. There is no Ranger test nor do they separate anybody from anybody and sounds more like your friend quit Ranger school or was peered. There really isn't anything to fail besides patrols and if you fail one you get another shot and if you fail again, you will recycle that phase and if you are kicked out because of failing patrols, you must really suck.

@Ryan12592 Special Forces refers to the Army Green Berets. Spec Ops mean "Special Operations" and refers to any unit that is capable of performing operations beyond normal duty (Direct action, counter intelligence, recon, etc). Special Forces, Rangers, SEALs, Parajumpers, etc.

they are trained in direct action which is a special op. direct action is a hit and run mission like a raid.... and yes they can spearhead conventional forces... but so can Green Berets, like in Iraq, they met up with the Kurdish and anti saddam forces and led very successful ground fights that would probably be considered conventional

JOTC instructors were some great guys to work under.The 82nd was just finishing up there rotation before the monsoon season came in.I remember them telling us, to prepare to get wet.Rained every day like a mofo..lol Ft Sherman was a breath taking place,where death was a foot step away. It's sad to see that our younger generation will never experience JOTC.. Politics!!!!!!!!

your joking...right? Yes, you are right on the 75th mountain division is more elite then the rest of the rangers. But the rangers training is longer, harder, and they do things the marines can't do. They are better trained and sent in to do suicide missions that marines/army infantry could not accomplish. The Rangers also have a large amount of better tactics and train on hell jumping and other things that no marines or army infantry train on.

Ok W/E you say but do admit that you were wrong on calling rangers special force when the only rangers that fall under special force are the 75th regement the rest of the rangers are light infantry that do not fall under special force but the rangers do go on (suicide missions) the ranger training wont be very hard for a marine for avg army infantry men who try out maybe but not the marines becase they are not conventional infantry use to moving in large armor they operate in small mobile groups

oh and by the way a regular ranger is in no way better then recon, recon falls under special force all other ranger regements that are not the 75th DONT . Recon falls under SOCOM both recon and regular marines are qualified to work side by side with SEALS although rangers work closley with DELTA when missions go sour . Rangers work with delta because there both part of the army and marines with seals because there in the navy. No hard feelings for tinking rangers are special force GO USA!

@nola305 rip is way harder than anything a marine infantry guy goes threw.Also the Ranger being produced today is more elite than the Ranger of just 2 years ago.they have been pumped up to a tier 2 unit in a result of th war on terror.before you attended rip and if you make it threw you went to a ranger batt and waited for a chance to go to ranger school. now days rip is rasp 8 weeks instead of the originl 4 then you must go to ranger school before allowed to a ranger batt double tabbed now days

@nola305 so basically before you attended basic then infantry school then airborne then you went to rip(4 week selection)and if you make it thre you went to a ranger batt and you were a ranger you then awaited orders to go to ranger school but could get deployed before then. now days it's basic,infantry school,airborne, the RASP(8 weeks)then you go straight to ranger school before you can call your self a ranger. also sere n a shortlanguage school was added to the pipeline. they r more elite now

@nola305 also if you are talking about the Recon Rangers(long haired rangers)every batt has them they are more elite then the average ranger it's another selection and additional 22 weeks of hard training to be a RRD.Also the Rangers must be HALO and usually scuba before even trying out for RRD.these r the rangers that usually go on to CAG. Marines that r on rangers level would be the Recon Division.Force Recon(witch are now in MARSOC) are more on SEAL, army SF, RRD level.Rangers deserve respect

@nola305 Rangers need their respect.but i would never talk down about a marine that serves his country.but i know alot of basic infantry guys that talk shit on certain Spec Ops units witch is sad. my dads a retired Navy SEAL(BUD/S class 104, SDV t-1, and NSWDG) n i grew up around SEALs i got to meet alot of diffrent guys when he worked for blackwater and another security job Rangers, Force Recon, SF, and a few D boys. and to compare them to basic marine or army infantry is just ignorant.
