  • How do you like that Ergo Bass?

  • @Rhythmicons The Ergo's been working out very nicely, I've had it for something like three-four years. Very simple, but works for everything. It gets used weekly.

  • @krowochron I ordered an uncorsed 8 that Jesse told me I was supposed to take delivery of in Mid October. Needless to say m excited! I happened to be looking up upright bass stuff when I came across this video. Thanks!

  • Pooooojebane... :]

  • too funny!

  • greeting from TB ... this is great.

  • Genius!!!!!

  • I'll practice...

  • In the first one - is the A string tuned down to a G? Messed with my head a little to see open strings and hear a 5th.

  • @kellmucious I wondered if anybody would notice that. The entire bass is tuned in fifths - CGDA, an octave below the cello. I switched to fifths tuning maybe four years ago.

  • Hey I noticed that in many of your other videos, you perform without a shirt on. How does this affect the tone, and how many years of experience should I have on bass before I can employ this advanced technique?

  • @JoshWMyers Perhaps unexpectedly, it seems to affect the tone of female vocalists more so than the tone of the bass. It makes their vibrato more tremulous, but seems to also cause them to be short of breath at times, so it must be used carefully. I think years of experience aren't as important here as being more handsome than the singer's husband/boyfriend.

  • @krowochron ...but the bass player's sorta a scary looking dude. Maybe the tremulous vibrato and shortness in breath in the ladies isn't them being swooned or overtaken with longing, but just plain fear and intimidation!

  • @JoshWMyers Hmmm... good point. To determine which it is, the shirtless technique would need to be done with a male vocalist. If he is also affected, then it probably is intimidation. I can't perform that test, though - as you can tell I only play with lovely lady singers.

  • @krowochron - The shirtless technique doesn't need to be tested with a male vocalist... After several years of research and some very intriguing but ultimately awkward and mildy unpleasant 'experiments,' I find it's much more effective with a shirtless female vocalist.

  • @krowochron BTW, I love your videos and find the groups that you play with to be very entertaining! If you guys ever make it over to America.... please introduce me to any one of those lovely lady singers... or the cajon player - wait... please forget that I mentioned anything about that cajon player.

  • @JoshWMyers who do you want to be introduced to? Playing doublebass makes you a badass, so Krowochron is playing with at least 4 lovely ladies :P

  • I won't call that advanced technic ... it is more of a visual thing to be more entertening

  • @clefdefa It's called "sarcasm." It's actually another advanced double bass technique in teaching advanced double techniques. It really can't be taught directly until you've mastered "The Dry Hump" advanced double bass technique, then you can move on to the 'sarcastic' double bass techniques. I think Bottesini first mastered the technique in the 1800s.

  • Technique "looking good"

  • Best Instructional video I've ever seen - Looks like I've got some practicing to do!
