@MSx91 You musn't say that in Germany! The first and the second verses aren't sung.Adolf Hitler used them as an advertisment for his "3.Reich". Only the third verse wasn't sung and so we only sing the third verse of it! If you sing the others police can punish you

The main problem is just, that most of the germans don't know that "deutschland über alles" was written in a time where germany was splitted in 39 principati and the wroter just meaned "germany should be connected together.. together over all of this 39 principaties.. the nazis destroyed that wonderfull lyrics such badly..

It was written before the unification I believe, and the "Deutschland über alles" signalled the great sense of patriotism there was in the mid-1800's.

Nowadays it isn't used because it's very outdated(even in the part where there is "Von der Maas bis an die Memel, Von der Etsch bis an den Belt" for example, names territories that were once German and now aren't.

So only the last stanza is used nowadays.

The Nazis interpreted this stanza as an advocation Germany's supremacy over the rest of the world; yet in 1841 it meant that the idea of a "German State" was supreme other say the monarchies of the several states in "Germany".

Today we sing the 3rd stanza, which advocates unity; freedom, justice and the prosperity of the German state. It is in no way nationalist.
