Never laughed so hard in my life until I witnessed Gilda as "Emily Latella" on SNL; always ended with "nevermind." Sooooo funnny; thank you Gilda Radner for EL and myriad others you brought to life before our very eyes during 'early days' of SNL. Wish I could instantly witness more. And speaking of which, anyone have footage of "Emily Latella"s PSA on "Bus(t)ing school children?" I quake to see that particular gem, among many, again.
I was a Marine in Desert Storm working late at night in the mess hall preparing food for the next day.
We had a make-shift library set up that had books donated by the great citizens of the USA and I saw "It's Always Something" sitting on a desk. I read that book and laughed because I had always liked Gene (the ONLY Willy Wonka) and knew of Gilda's cancer.
Her story was truly inspirational, really made me think of life and the book carried me through Desert Storm - I was alive and thankful.
When she died dear Gene died. You never heard anything about Gene after that. His heart so broke he just faded away. "It's always something". - Gilda Radner

I miss her so much. She did all the funniest Skits. She was my favorite of all the great "Not Ready For Prime Time" players.
Emily Litella, Roseanne Rosannadanna, Lisa Lupner (etc).
I wish there were more video's of her here on Youtube. I will NEVER forget her or all the great skits (and movies) she did. I'm always still qouting her best lines.
@OttoMad77 That's better. My grandparents weren't involved with child labor either, I just thought you should know. :) BTW My grandmother was born in 1898 and she never mentioned the "good old days". She had fond memories, but that particular phrase never came from her. My parents though were very happy with the 40s and 50s and I know they had it better than I did. So, it's not every generation, it's the quality of life, access to nature and population status that counts.
@OttoMad77 How lucky for you! But I live in a state that doesn't have trees anymore or vacant lots. It's called Florida. And just how old do you think I am? Child labor? We were busy playing outside (no preschool, daycare etc.) and I was never in danger of getting small pox. No one I knew had lice and who needed rapid transit? My father would take us on leisurely drives along the beach to cool down at sunset and we actually saw the beach! Neighbors debated all the time.
@OttoMad77 And it's true. Did you have trees to climb when you were a kid? How about open fields? Did you ever hear your parents using the F bomb? Probably not. Of course, my parents were brought up in the 30s. I see the things my niece and nephew say and do and I think they're insane. I think my generation is the first to truly mess up the world on a global scale just because we can, and it is sad.
@OttoMad77 That's all? I wouldn't know because we left our house door open all day, strolled thru the woods ( now gone) and could afford to escape to films, vacations and the beach (no parking meters, no fancy hotels and homes to block us, and free tv. The way one gauges life depends on how much escape one has. Then, there were actually places to go and things to do. NOW...who the hell can afford them if they exist?
Should i give up, Or should i just keep chasing pavements? Even if it leads nowhere, Or would it be a waste? Even If i knew my place should i leave it there? Should i give up, Or should i just keep chasing pavements? Even if it leads nowhere I'd build myself up, And fly around in circles, Wait then as my heart drops, and my back begins to tingle finally could this be it
Adele - Chasing Pavements 've made up my mind, No need to think it over, If i'm wrong I aint right, No need to look no further, This ain't lust, This is love but, If i tell the world, I'll never say enough, Cause it was not said to you, And thats exactly what i need to do, If i'm in love with you,
Nice tribute. I wish it was longer. She was someone who imprinted herself in my psyche and I'm sure many others. Funny lady, made us laugh. "It's always something!"
A nice tribute to a talented woman who, by all accounts, was loved by all who knew her. BTW - fall of 1975 was the first year of SNL, and my freshman year of college, so I relate strongly to the original cast.
How very nice :) I always liked the character Rosanne Rosannadanna. I think partly her character lives in "Ugly Betty" ....not too sure if you ever got to see old school SNL? or Ugly Betty. A very fun and talanted lady taken way too soon and you made a nice video in her memory.

Gilda Radner was a comedic genius. Granted, she had great writers, but she performed and delivered. Even Baba Wawa loved her imitations on SNL.
