  • Thank you for this tutorial, much better than those submission 101 vids. However, in terms of locking your hands, do you gable grip it, or do you grab your wrist with the other? Should your hands be against his throat, or all you need is for your forearm to be against his neck?

  • Great vids. I would put some type of disclaimer up though bro. Some of chokes are almost neck crankish. Don't need anybody getting their necked jacked for good.

  • nice video, how long have you been training in bjj? you look fairly young... I recently grew attached to these submissions that I neglected before, and your detailed description really made them easy

  • @hutchsapprentice Thanks, glad they helped! I made these videos a few years ago when I was a purple belt. I've been training a long time, I guess maybe 13 years or so at this point, and I recently got my black belt this past spring. I'm 34.

  • nice video, how long have you been doing bjj? you look fairly young. These videos actually helped me a lot with some things I never really took a liking to until recently. I appriciate the help

  • Came for the PaperCutter, got hooked for the series, Thanks for putting this up!

  • or jigoku jime / hell choke as it was called originally in judo

  • Great stuff Jeff!

  • drop guillotine = peruvian necktie

  • yup

  • when he threw the leg over and fell back, i was like "Peruvian necktie all the way". Still, great technique and demo.

  • it was called the drop guillotine before it got popularized as the peruvian

  • YES. That was the name I first learned it by, and still tend to call it...although Peruvian Necktie is admittedly cooler. ;)

  • innovated by peruvian fighter Tony de Souza

  • good stuff

  • This whole no gi chokes series is the best stuff ive seen. All of it REALLY works!!

  • then your a total newb.

    white belt?

  • f home alone with webcam J

  • who's matt and what's his site?

  • Damn that guy is a stud.

  • thanks great

  • Whoa is that the IM building wrestling room at Penn State? I used to train there. I just randomly found this video and I was thinking, "damn, that room looks familiar." Bizarre.

  • Yes! Used to train there almost every day, until Coach Oishi kicked everyone but wrestlers and his judokas out. Cool guy but very crazy. ;)

  • What's Up!? What a crazy coincidence. I was searching drop guillotines and guess whose video shows up first: yours lol. This reminded me of back in the day because I get guys in this turtle position frequently by smothering them and instead of going for a tap I revert back to top position wrestling moves. Definitely can't wait to get back rolling now that I remember this stuff. THANKS!

  • Thanks a lot for taking the time out of your day to make these videos. I really enjoyed your instruction, there is some really good stuff in these vids. If you don't mind me asking where is Lion Pride BJJ based out of?

  • Actually, LionPride was just a screenname I came up with when I first started posting on Youtube. We are a De La Riva Jiu-jitsu gym, affiliated with LionHeart Mixed Martial Arts in State College, PA. We have 2200 feet of brand new Swain mats, and by the end of the summer, we'll have even more mat space as well as a ring and a cage in our facility. Come by and check us out anytime!

  • Thanks for putting out the instruction. The position I get into the most is the topside, this fits perfectly into my game. You are giving up some goods on here.

  • I have small hands and chokes are my favourite, the Guillotine detail was very good because I always do it arching my back. Thank"s.

  • Tight submission. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • Nice fellas. Keep'em coming. Thanks

  • AWESOME!!! Great video man, stuff I've never seen before. I'm gonna try some of this out on my class mates for sure. Great job and keep them coming PLEASE!!!!

  • good technique and teaching style. thanks a lot, I often review your vids before I go roll.

  • Thanks man, this was excellent stuff :-) !

  • nice teaching, how about some more? Maybe north south escapes or north south submissions.thanks

  • I have been making new videos, but they are for my students! :) I will put something up here soon. I just had knee surgery and will be on crutches for the next few weeks, but as soon as I'm back in action, I'll bust out the camera.

  • Of the two drop guillotine variations you present here (awesome sub that I've never seen before btw), have you found you have more success with one over the other?

  • The first one by far. Hooking over the leg alone just doesn't get me enough security or leverage over big guys. Just my own experience.

  • Wow I've never seen a drop guillotine before, nice. Thanks for your videos again. Great job.

  • What's Matt's youtube user name. I'd like to check out his videos too. Great job, when are we going to see more videos? Leg locks would be cool.

  • I'm pretty sure his username is Aesopian.

  • Thanks a million. More clips... PLEASE!!!

  • cv0669, not sure if that is the same move or not. The method I show here, with your shin blocking his knee while you roll forward, creates the space to enable the foot drag to work. It is possible you could do it without rolling, I suppose, but I think it would be difficult against a skilled, tightly turtled opponent.

  • lionpride bjj you can see this move done by Rani Yahya on daily motion dot com with a little searching at the end of the match and I;ve seen it done by Jake Sheilds in ADCC 2005 against Cameron Earle if you have the footage and then please get back to me thanks

  • Hey man, I have seen Rani hit this move a lot. In the "Tournament of Champions" DVD, he does it to every opponent he faces, and while he doesn't finish many of them, he is on their backs almost the entire match. I first learned this technique from Rylan Lizares, a devastating Pedro Sauer brown belt who currently teaches at Grappling Unlimited in Hawaii; I think he learned it from Baret Yoshida, but don't quote me on that one.

  • woops posted that last comment on my other account so the technique is pretty much the same but your base is forward PS - Rani is a beast

  • well done

  • I have seen the foot drag method of taking the back without falling to one's side is it any different than this method?

  • Thank you so much for sharing such great techniques!

  • Thumbs up, way up! Keep up the good work!

  • I appreciate the time and effort!

  • Very GOOD! Sad that learning arts like this usually need money! Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • SundaraJMB, my name is Jeff Rockwell, I'm a 4-stripe purple belt under Pedro Sauer, training and teaching in State College, PA. Not to say that stuff is necessarily important, it's just the things people are usually interested in. ;) Punkd23, glad you enjoyed them, they have really worked well for me.

  • Do you think you could make some clips of other subs besides chokes. I would really appreciate it. No gi submissions.

  • Awesome chokes man. Thanks for posting these. I'm trying them right away. I'm sure they will be a great help.

  • Who is this gentleman who's teaching?
