  • Fucking beautiful.

  • So beautiful!

  • I'm playing this song for a solo--what tempo should i set my metronome to practice?

  • We're playing this song in orchestra class, but this guy sounds as good as an entire orchestra himself

  • Thank you very much !

  • El mio tampoco....y ya le gustaría

  • my cello doesn't do that :(

  • @jerryfinsternumber9 Don't feel too bad... his cello is 320 years old :) :P

  • Wow!

  • Such an amazing composition. Played with such feeling and passion. Thanks for posting this. If you would like to hear this piece in a more modern presentation check out Vinnie Moore "April sky". It borrows this theme as well as "air on a G"

  • I believe in God because of Bach. Its music cannot be human.

  • @AndreBalaio And I believe in magical musical unicorns because of Bach. This music cannot be human.

  • Best one on arioso piece on YouTube!

  • music from heaven.

  • both this Arioso and Air on the G String.... how can mere words express what i feel :-(

  • THIS is like hearing the voice of God, like Salieri said about Mozart's music on "Amadeus"; not Mozart, Bach. Bach music sublime, it's incredible ! He can express the Tragic, the Pain, The Sublime that is in all of us and only seldom shows itself. It's art at its purest form: the elevation of the spirit.

  • Aquesta cançó em fa plorar, és preciosa!! ^^

  • I love this piece of music. I walked down the aisle to it at our wedding.

  • Awesome

  • Exquisite.

  • A favorite. So beautiful.

  • I'm going to his bithday concert at the Royal Festival Hall on April 14th!

  • Flavio venturuni só enriqueceu essa linda melodia com sua poesia!

  • @fafadebelem1975 Ele só cagou a melodia!

  • When the angels play to each other, they play Mozart. When they play to God, they play Bach.

  • Magnific

  • Man, you play it the way God and Bach want it to be!. Love you <3

  • Absolutely gorgeous. Love it!!

  • Wonderful

  • Beautiful beyond words.

  • @bluelacey I agree with you 100%. With tears in my eyes, I´m speechless!

  • Creo qeu es la mejor interpretacion de esta partitura en el youtube . Formidable.

  • This is breathtaking.

  • So wonderful...!

  • Wow this is truley amazing - the best recording of Bach's Arioso in G, this sounds remotley similar to Saint-Saen's 'The Swan' - from Carnival Of The Animals. thanks for posting this

  • so sweet!

  • wonderful! this song is beutiful. julian lloyd webber is real talented to.

  • Cool, but, if you think about it, its just nice sounding vibrations, not a way of life.

  • @murderface58 Don't worry. No one expects someone with a username muderface to appreciate classical music.

  • @IPawnt - lol !

  • Divino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is so gorgeous. Thank you for sharing such beauty.

  • Beautiful...Haunting.....

  • I loved it! I am currently learning this song for trumpet and this was amazing.

  • Expectacular !! muy motivante. Amo el Cello

  • Magical....Beautiful

  • Outstanding!

  • Beautiful Performance, the first time I heard this piece it was on the radio in Mexico they have a Classical Staion anyways the song piece was played on Piano it has so much emotion I almost cried I was only 8 years old thanks for posting this :)

  • I am learning this piece. But I am no were near as good as that. Well Done.

  • Absolutely without comparison-flawless!

  • La inspiración del Chelista me ha hecho soltar unas lágrimas

  • His C string is incredible.

    Interesting way of playing Arioso.

  • Im not sure what you are saying. The only time he even touches the C string is on the last note of the piece.

  • @proggoth I think wingedhamham meant he loved the emotion julian webber put into that last note.

  • This is AMAZING! It's the most beautiful piece I've ever heard. Absolutely gorgeous piece. Love the sad tune and the mellow tone of the cello suits it perfectly :)

  • Bravo! That´s really a very beautiful rendition of Bachs famous arioso in g-major. Thank you very much for sharing, Antonio!

  • gorgeous ~

  • Semplicemente incantevole. il grande Bach suonato alla grande!!!

  • tHANK YOU, IT IS AMAZING!

  • gindobray, what do you mean by chilled? this is one of my favorite pieces!

  • watch his leg and tell me that is chilled out rather than absolute control

  • beautiful...

  • muito bom valeu....

  • I have always loved the sad, haunting tone of the cello and Julian Lloyd Webber plays it beautifully.

  • Julian Lloyd webber has no fear, but he feels what he does

  • splendid !

  • very pretty - i'm playing this song now

  • Thank you so much for this.

  • Tis remarkably beautiful.....

  • lovely played :) sooo tender

  • why does the description say this piece is very chilled?

  • because simply it is.

  • Lovely.

  • amoo

  • lindo exelente interpretacion

  • Fantastic....

  • EXCELSO...*****

  • es sencillamente hermoso me encanta!!!!!! Gracias

  • absolutely perfect!

  • 好好聽呀!!!

  • Magnifico

  • guys, quick response please.. is this a 1/2, 3/4 or a full sized cello? Thanks in advance :D

  • It's full sized cello. But his hands and figure are so big that it seems smaller.

  • wobbly, maybe webber is gay. but in any case it's more about the coordination and connection between both musicians which gives rise to the song-like quality of this piece..

  • (gay???...)

    News:TELEGRAPH UK 16 Jun 2009

next month noted cellist Julian Lloyd Webber is to marry the former first cello of the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Jiaxin Cheng, 34.

It will be the fourth marriage for Lloyd Webber, 58,

Julian's first wife, who he married in 1974, was Celia Ballantyne, in 1989, he wed Zohra Ghazi, an exiled Afghan princess, by whom he had a son, David, 17. His third marriage was to the French-Algerian Kheira Bourahla.

  • I agree with Sydneylocks, it's just a tad too fast for my tastes. But beautifully played!

Why does this cellist so often glance at his accompanist?

  • Beautiful! Thanks so much for posting this.

  • slightly too fast.

  • Very well played ; )

  • even after years always you have to practise scales to always play in tune ...oh yea it is hard work ..but i love doing it

  • is julian playing on a stradivarius cello?i recognize the tone

  • Thankyou,, for all your comments. So, its purely down to, practice, practice, and more practice,,then ! and of course, talent and dedication. thanks again. DGJ. UK.

  • without,, frets,, as a guitar has,, how does the player of these stringed instruments,, know where to place his fingers ,? in order to strike the right notes ?? DGJ. UK.

  • It's all done by memorizing the position of the notes on the strings, along with listening to the note tone so you know if you are in the right spot.

  • With much training of the hand. After awhile, your fingers just fall into place naturally :)

  • there is a certain place, u hav to memorise. its pretty easy after uve been playing a while

  • yes...it requires years and years of work...which is one of the reasons why the string instrument is the most difficult to play properly as well as master.

  • I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I play both. With a stringed instrument the left hand supports the right hand, both hands are in concert with another. With the piano, the left hand can do something completely different to the right hand especially in jazz.

What do you dudes who play both stringed and piano think ?

  • Well the left hand and right doesn't go together perfectly for the cello, especially when playing a fast piece. Piano also requires lot of coordination but string instruments you have more concepts to worry together with coordination like vibrato, color, etc. Both are difficult because they require large amount of practice. In my experience, cello needs more time to master because of all the muscles you have to develop. Most people I know (who also plays both) say string is more difficult.

  • I think, in both the piano and cello, both hands support the other. In piano though, the support either lowers or rises with the style of music. Btw, I play both piano and cello.

  • Yes - training of the hand and of the ears. A new player will start out with little pieces of tape on the fingerboard to know where to place the fingers until they get used to where the fingers go and what the notes are supposed to sound like. Then, you take the tapes off and it's just in your brain. At least, that's how I learned. I was able to take the tapes off after about 2 years.

  • I am playing this for Alto Saxophone contest!

  • i'm playing this on trumpet for solo and ensemble

  • Is that one of the Stradivarius cellos he's playing?

  • Yes, he plays the Barjansky Stradivarius cello !

  • aaaaahhh!! what i'd give to play on a stradivarius cello....XD alas......it's impossible...hahah

  • Listening to this could heal us all.

  • he is absolutely amazing and passionate! he makes you want to listen to Arioso over and over again. so beautiful

  • Simply beautiful, hearing the passion coming from this piece is almost a tear jerker. Great stuff!

  • wao. demasiado hermoso.

  • Me encanta esa melodía; sólo la sensibilidad de Bach pudo haberla creado. Bellísima y conmovedora, sin lugar a dudas.

  • I hope to reach that level one day.

Unfortunately, I am not really going for a career in professional music, so It's a bit of a conundrum.

    Still, beautiful preformance of Arioso.

  • I heard Julian Lloyd Webber playing this arioso at his concert in Seoul in 1994. This video reminds me of that time. Wonderful playing!

  • Amazingly beautiful!

  • This is not a "song". Period. It is a musical piece. Please, love the musical piece instead.

  • i love this song

  • is nobody singing , thats why this i not a song

  • This is one of the world's finest cellists playing a beautiful piece written by a musical genius. It doesn't need lyrics. If anything, they'd probably only detract from it. Open your mind a little and try to appreciate this for what it is.

  • this is my first ever class 2 solo to play im very nervous so i went thru youtube looking at tons of videos on it XD but i cant find one for my instrument, the trombone... if anybody knows of one, please pm me and tell me where to find it tyvm :)

  • wow, this would be pretty difficult to play on trombone...especially that leap from the A to the high C, and the trill up there....

  • BROVO!!

  • This is the song I learned for an audition this weekend on my saxaphone (almost 14, 4th year playing)! Amazing job!

  • :'( beautiful!!! I play that in my violin

  • So nice! So Very wonderful!!!

  • Wow! amazing.. I learned this by myself without any help though when it comes to the ending o.o not that great :|

  • Simply delightful.

  • This piece helped me pass my grade 7 and I loved it. It is definately one of my favourites, alongside Le cygne by Saint Saens. And yeah I made my teacher promise that if I die before him, He'll play it as my funeral. He is an amazing cellist.

  • I think this piece would fit both a wedding and a funeral... this one is for sure in my funeral

  • Im learning this song :) 6th year of cello, and i am 13 years old XD great video

  • beautiful!

  • Really very chilled. Its so soothing to the ears(:

  • Magnífico

  • Very very beautiful ;)

  • beatuiful

  • is it just me, or does this song sound alot like 'air on a g string'?

  • Ratttlehead422 said "Is it just me, or does this song sound a lot like 'air on a g string". Well they both came from the same composer, J S Bach

  • doing this for grade six trombone and it is sooo much harder than it sounds

  • yeah, i'm with the pro-using-it-for-a-wedding school of thought.

    good luck by the way!

  • Same here...Simple, if you like it, use it!

  • Beautiful.. just pure beauty in every essence.

I play this on the Tuba.. but no where as peacefully and smoothly as this.

  • JLW + Arioso + Stradivarius Cello = Perfection.

  • Nooo. You can't use this piece for a wedding lol. Arioso comes from a piece which when translated literally means "My open grave stands before me". It's a really lovely piece but not the kind of piece you want playing at a wedding.

  • I think not... "arioso" translates to "airy". Bach is well known for melodious music. Unless he intended it for funeral music. What do you think? I couldn't find anymore about this piece on the web.

  • Can anyone tell me if this music is on a CD or DVD? It's so lovely that I'd like to have a copy. Thanks!

  • Just about any "Best of the Baroque" compilation CD will have this piece on it.

  • ♥♥♥♥beautiful♥♥♥♥

  • gorgeous... wah...

  • I've been looking for this piece... now it's here and I love it. Thanks for sharing.

  • Bellísimo.

  • Do u think I could use this for my wedding ceremony? Or is it too sad? What do u think people?

  • i don't think it is too sad! it's just beautiful and romantic :D

  • I'm going to use this song during my wedding, it's lovely. :) Go for it!

  • It's definitely a wedding piece... go ahead and use it! :)

  • This song is perfect for a wedding! Heck I might even use this song for my wedding if I get married! I listen to it all the time on my iPod!

  • Bach did write this piece very close after his beloved wife had died. I wouln´t want to hear it on my wedding - althought it´s one of his best pieces!

  • In my opinion your wedding ceremony wiil be glorius , fantastic and unforgetable with this wonderfull song.

  • I feel so at peace.....

  • non verbal, perfekt!

  • Julian is very expressive here...simply lovely

  • Lovely and expressive.

  • i love this so much it is absolutly aswome and i love jullian as well cellos rule peoplexxxxxxxxx
