Why did employers start to pay for employees health insurance? Because FDR in all his stupidity (another horrible president) capped what employers could pay their employees with such high income taxes over a limit, so employers started to compensate employees by paying for benefits. And hence sown the seeds of spiraling health care costs.

I was in the Peace Corps and received the best health coverage of my life on the government run program that all volunteers were enrolled in. Once we returned home the insurance lasted another year. It was cheap, reliable, easy to deal with the reps and admin, and I hated to see it go...
You're right this bill isn't what I want. I want single payer healthcare. Private Dr.'s and hospitals with a gov't insurance that we all pay in for premiums. By the way every soldier and his family out there is on Department of Defense provided health care. Ask them if they would like to give that up and go try their luck on the private insurance market. Ask veterans if they would like to give up their VA benefits. These are all Government run health care. Medicare and SSI are hitting a rough patch mainly due to people after WWII not keeping it in their pants and the baby boom happened which is a demographic anomaly, and the fix would be painless.
Another point you guys always bring up Medicare. Medicare takes care of the weakest most costly to insure population. I love granny but lets face it she's going to die, if she didn't have Medicare, I know, and if you're being honest, you know, that she would be utterly un-insurable in the private market. That's why we pay for Medicare, and if you have any humanity at all you pay for the medicare and accept the adjustments to keep it alive and shut up about your stupid entitlement agument.
Really simple, You would save the money you currently pay in premiums to some guy who takes 25% right off the top for profit and marketing and his 3rd house in the Hamptons. In my case thats about $165 a week. If every adult in America contributed to the same pool, that was truly non-profit it would be way cheaper. That's just common sense. It's not an entitlement, its insurance you pay for. You include medicare/medicaid/congressmen/soldiers in it. Only adjust prem's 4 poor & old on income scale

Economists all say that health care is eating up a huge chunk of our economy and its part of the reason it's in trouble. my former employer last year showed us his portion of the healthcare bill for our 30 person company and it was over $140,000/year and he payed in 60% so 140K is just 60% of the total and it's been going up almost every year.

Preferably one that is industrialized, but go ahead and see if you can even find one that is not just for kicks. And that is just false. We don't provide health care if you can't pay. Hospitals do not have to treat anyone who can't pay. Many do, but they don't have to. And we all end up paying via our taxes when these people without insurance do get treated at hospitals.

Why did employers start to pay for employees health insurance? Because FDR in all his stupidity (another horrible president) capped what employers could pay their employees with such high income taxes over a limit, so employers started to compensate employees by paying for benefits. There reason that heath care is so high is that for most people, heath care is mostly "free" to them. Heath insurance should only be for catastrophic items, just like homeowners insurance. By the way every soldier and his family out there is on Department of Defense provided health care. Ask them if they would like to give that up and go try their luck on the private insurance market. Ask veterans if they would like to give up their VA benefits. These are all Government run health care. Medicare and SSI are hitting a rough patch mainly due to people after WWII not keeping it in their pants and the baby boom happened which is a demographic anomaly, and the fix would be painless.

Really simple, You would save the money you currently pay in premiums to some guy who takes 25% right off the top for profit and marketing and his 3rd house in the Hamptons. In my case thats about $165 a week. If every adult in America contributed to the same pool, that was truly non-profit it would be way cheaper. That's just common sense. It's not an entitlement, its insurance you pay for. You include medicare/medicaid/congressmen/soldiers in it. Only adjust prem's 4 poor & old on income scale

Yes because if you can stabilize health care costs and take pressure off employers and consumers everyone will have more capital and money to hire again. Economists all say that health care is eating up a huge chunk of our economy and its part of the reason it's in trouble. my former employer last year showed us his portion of the healthcare bill for our 30 person company and it was over $140,000/year and he payed in 60% so 140K is just 60% of the total and it's been going up almost every year.

Problem is your fica/ mica taxes you pay were supose to be put in a trust account so when you retire that money would be there. But Congress couldn't keep their hands off it and borrowed it for things like a cowgirl museam in texas, or a skate board park. SS and medicare are both broke. All that money you paid in won't be there when you retire because they squandered it away. You would have 3 times the money if you had put those dollars into a retirement account yourself.

Exactly, and who is regulating the size of the government? It's not that our health care system is perfect and can't use some help, its that our fat government is getting fatter and they are doing it with ever increasing leverage. Its a house of cards. Seems like in order to solve a problem anymore requires a couple hundred billion dollars. When they can manage Medicare, then we'll talk about adding another level of bureaucracy.

Some people think force and violence is the best solution to solve problems. If you are for the democrats solution then that is your paradigm. If you believe people who will not submit to govt coercion to buy health insurance and not pay the penalty deserve to go to jail then that is what you support.
