@1crazyboy7 The two clips do have a different temperature but I purposefully didn't want to edit any of the footage in post. I just put the camera in full auto mode during shooting of both clips, changing only the lighting to reflect what difference lighting can make.
what do you mean with flood lights ? is this an outside feature right ? or is it a setting from the camera ?...I have a HV40 too and I always have trouble in low light I always get noise, can u please tell me what setting did u use...you will help me a lot
@rodrigosales I didn't do anything different with the camera between the two clips, (I think it was just on auto everything.) The first clip he's playing under two halogen style flood lamps and in the second clip he's playing under normal CFL's that you'd find indoors.
@braddahspliff I agree. It's a moon block and they sell sets of them (like sets of 3, each with different pitches, obviously) that I tell him he should buy for fun.
@AGENTno3 If you like this, check out his youtube account at (user name madrummer21) . He's got some of his band footage up there as well as some short film stuff he's been involved in.
Do you think hv40 is better than hv30 , Panasonic HDC-HS300 or Canon HF100? I still wait comparison tests (low light, noise etc. ) from people who can make these tests.
the only benefit of having an hv40 is that it can shoot in native 24p. I find the pull down removal process to be really easy, and it doesn't justify the 400 dollar price increase for me. However, if that is a big deal for you, go for it. Also I DO recommend a flash based camera like the canon HFs100, but I think it doesn't perform as well as the hv30/40 in lowlight due to it's smaller sensor.
Thank you for your response. When you shoot 1 hour with hv30 or hv20, how Much Time Do you Spend then for pull down removal process ? This is very important question for me, because I have not a lot of time for my editing work. And now I have hesitations between hv30 and hv40 ( with native 24p ) .By the way soon hv30 will disappear from European market and I must make my decision quickly. ..
...What do you think about another hv40 feature - Custom Key . Is custom key useful for your work, or is only canon advertise trick ? ( excuse me for my bad English ;-)))
I only own an hv30, so i couldn't say much about the usefulness of the custom key bottom. However, it seems like that button is meant to control the zebra, focus assist, peaking and horizontal markers. Some people might find that useful but i think it's kinda a marketing gimmick, because the focus assist can be found directly on the lcd, and the zebra should be in use pretty much the whole time, to help with exposure. Also i leave meyhorizontal and vertical markers on the entire time for framing.
Umm the pulldown removal process depends on your computer's power. I'm running a fairly high end set up and my pull down process probably takes the same amount of time to capture. So an hour of footage would take an hour to capture and an hour to remove the pull down. If time is really an issue, go for the hv40 or a flash based camera which speeds up the process significantly.
Thank you very much for your reply ! This information is very useful and precious for me !!! When you have enough experience and observations about " custom key " feature, I will be very grateful if you send me information about usefulnes of " Custom Key " . Thank you again ! :-))
@theryaner I'm definitely a fan of "the bigger the sensor, the better." I actually prefer 24p not because of the 24 fps, but because the fact that it's progressive. Granted, you can de-interlace interlaced footage, but I just don't trust it for some (most likely superstitious) reason.
@intermediator I'm not familiar with the HF100, but the HV40 (and HV30), the Panasonic, and the Canon HF200 are all great cameras. You'll be happy with either. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, so I think it's just a matter of combing through the spec sheets to see which one specifically fits your style.
Great comparison, Now you just need to work on not playing in front of the beat...

hv40 only cause it records in real 24p and you dont need to do any pulldown removal, but i dont know if thats worth the extra money for you

@theryaner I'm the same way. Zebra on all the time with horizontal and vertical markers
BassICLeh 1 year ago
@intermediator I do not use the custom key at all. The zebra setting is useful, but the other options for the button are kind of not useful
