@slusset Inertia means nothing, when the driving force exceeds the friction coefficient, in this case a wet track basically cuts two thirds of the original static coefficient.
@MiniKonstii If you meant a normal circuit configuration rear wing, it's a lot of difference compared to this Monza/Indianapolis spec rear wing. The normal rear wing will help in giving extra traction somewhere through 100kmh upwards from the downforce but it won't help in achieving higher top speeds and may slow down the acceleration.
I think it´s easy to compare 0 to 300km/h, but the really amazing thing about f1 is cornering speed and acceleration after a corner. It´s a difficult thing to understand, the amount of grip they generate while cornering.
@Viriuzzz The F1 cars of nowadays have slightly less horsepower at around 800. The weight of this 2010 Renault R30 is around 750-800kg with driver on board and full fuel. The tyres and wet condition isn't really helping at all in this video.
I have wanted to see this comparison for YEARS! I knew that a Formula 1 car would be faster than the Veyron but I've seen many videos online of the Veyron going from 0-300 and sometimes I think that the Veyron could hold its own against an F1 car in a straight line. Yeah... not going to happen. Imagine if they had a dry surface and slick tyres. Damn!
Unless they're doing the test in snow, the F1 car will destroy all challengers. I see your point regarding time to 300km/h but the F1 car will remain on top in dry, damp, wet, etc..
@mrstig691 unlikely, red bull don't accelerate faster then other cars, instead they go around corners faster then everyone else, although the moral of this story is, if your rich and want a fast car, don't bother with a Bugatti Veyron, just hire an F1 car!!
Around certain tracks maybe. The 2011 cars qualified faster around certain tracks, Monaco for instance.
However, I think the 1400hp+ turbo cars in F1 in 1986 were the fastest accelerating ever.
The Benetton BMW in 1986 (when they still were allowed to use as much turbo boost as the engine could take) had over 1400hp for qualifying. According to BMW they used 5.6 bars of boost in order to get that much horsepower. The thing was almost undrivable.
@tstraw48 Just saying that on a dry day, with slicks, the time could be a lot quicker. slick tyres means more surface area on the tarmac, which means better traction therefore better acceleration...
LOOOLLLLLLLLL at the rear wing at 1min 21 sec !!!!!!!!!! Maybe the boys from volkswagen shoulda ripped the aircon and electric seats outa the Veyron bahahaha. Some joke. Pescarolos wagon did pretty good actually, 1000kg car with what, less than 700 horses and it makes the 15 second mark.
The wing in the video is flatter than a real wing that they use in races..
It is so flat so it wont drag the car and slow it down, however it provides less downforce but more speed (they need downforce in races (grip) and that is why they use a different wing in F1 races.. a wing that is angled and not so flat..
Either this is BS or the Bugatti driver is a woman because it can do 0-300 km/h in 16.7s. The Super Sport can do it in 14.6s. Granted, it was wet but you shouldnt have to add 3 seconds. AWD....
They are all from different categories, no comparison. It's like put an F1 car on Talladega and expect to reach top speeds without flying from the bank.
I can't understand the majority of negative posts for this video? Some of you know some interesting trivia. Thanks for sharing! I appreciate anyone who takes the time to assemble these cars and drive them in a time trial and share with the world.....wet or dry! True enthusiasts wouldn't be so negative!
I'd like to see this 2010 "Lotus"-Renault against Ayrton Senna's 1986 Lotus-Renault with a 1300hp turbo V6 (qualifying trim)
Btw, the 1973 Can-Am championship winning Porsche 917-30 did 0-320km/h (0-200mph) in 10,9 seconds according to some sources. Needless to say Can-Am cars had no upper displacement limit so it developed 1580hp in qualifying trim, and with the car itself weighing 800kg, that was a power to weight ratio of almost 2000hp/ton.

As we say in Russia: a tough guy among sheep and a sheep among tough guys!
Renault'd better brag about beating rivals FROM THEIR LEAGUE, not from minors, and we all know how things are in this department
PS: having said that, the video is beautifully shot to beautiful music - so kudos to the vid but not to the main idea, 'cause again - u don't show your strength against the weak and expect to be admired for it
@peacenforcer If da video was abt Renault R30 vs other F1 cars hw wud you get da feel of 0-300km/hr accln as all cars wud perform similarly. I dn't think Renault is trying to brag abt its R30, its just showcasing da technology & performance of a F1 car compared to da fastest production cars in da world. Most of da people in da world may someday get to see a Veyron or R8 accelerating frm close quarters but not possibly a F1 car. So I think dis is a gud way to let ppl know how fast a 'F1' car is.
@peacenforcer they never claimed their car to be better because it can beat road cars or the LMP1. rather showing the performance difference between each vehicle. but of course, its easy to come to silly conclusions when you feel strongly against a team
@peacenforcer you are right bracie, but remember that renault's straight line speed was at times as good as any F1 car this season, it is their downforce that leaves much to be desired. consider this video as a satire for world's leading sport cars when big brother F1 comes and says "hahahah"
I think the question should be why do this in the first place ? period what's the purpose of doing it ? the Veyron is a 2 seater supercar the panamera is 4 seater GT coupe and the damn Lotus car is a pure racer, this is no fair comparison , pit it against other F1 cars and then go go for all the bragging rights.
Amazing! Please don't fire Bruno Senna ! He needs to stay in F1! I really think he is not doing too bad so far! And how about Prost / Senna times again - that would rock! Good luck for Brasil ! Acelera Bruno! Hope you figure out a good strategy - if it rains everything is possible!
What, did they get the world's slowest Veyron? With more HP than traction, negating the weight disadvantage, and 4WD, the Veyron should have easily beaten the F1 car in wet conditions and a Super Sport should beat the F1 car in dry conditions as well.
@raceboy1971 you obv dont know much about physics. The F1 car has near enough double the power to weight ratio of the veyron. 2 tonne car with 1000bhp gives you 500bhp per tonne. F1 car has about 720bhp in a car that weighs a minimum of 640Kgs, thats a ptw ratio of over 1000bhp, so in either condition the f1 car would win.
In 2004 F1 cars could hit 300 in about 8 seconds they could go from 0 to 240 to 0 again in 5 seconds they were monsters the very best of racing cars the world has ever seen f1 is still fast today = to about 2001 spec with more downforce and less grip dont forget in those days there was a tyre war so there tyes had more grip but i think we wont see these speeds in this decade maybe the next one when hydrogen power become more powerful and effcient
heavy cars actually benefit in a drag race when it's raining, more weight means more normal force from the surface ie: more friction.
Master1906 1 day ago
@Master1906 More weight also means more inertia, meaning more force required to accelerate.

Motorcycle @ 2:02 FTW!! Almost the cutting room floor but conspicuously cut from the time data... me thinks Lotus was embarrassed.

And what time is needed by McLaren MP4-26 to achieve 300 km/h?

So I think dis is a gud way to let ppl know how fast a 'F1' car is.
kshitij88 3 months ago
@peacenforcer they never claimed their car to be better because it can beat road cars or the LMP1. rather showing the performance difference between each vehicle. but of course, its easy to come to silly conclusions when you feel strongly against a team
manolicontra 3 months ago 5
@peacenforcer you are right bracie, but remember that renault's straight line speed was at times as good as any F1 car this season, it is their downforce that leaves much to be desired. consider this video as a satire for world's leading sport cars when big brother F1 comes and says "hahahah"

I think the question should be why do this in the first place ? period what's the purpose of doing it ? the Veyron is a 2 seater supercar the panamera is 4 seater GT coupe and the damn Lotus car is a pure racer, this is no fair comparison , pit it against other F1 cars and then go go for all the bragging rights.
" We are Lotus renault GP" pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Vitaly Petrov the BEST

With more HP than traction, negating the weight disadvantage, and 4WD, the Veyron should have easily beaten the F1 car in wet conditions and a Super Sport should beat the F1 car in dry conditions as well.
raceboy1971 3 months ago
