  • Nipaah ~

  • i was in target and saw a book with manga in it (it was kind of weird) and i stand there reading while my little brother and grandma went looking for something else

  • Higurashi

  • Higurashi <3

  • I know a lot of people said it already but I'm gonna say it too! Higurashi!

  • how do magazine and manga companies make money in japan? why do they even bother printing the stuff if people just read it for free

  • @KustomFu

there are still allot of people who buy em

    someone like myself

  • higurashi!

  • i used to go to a bookstore in the IFC centre while in Hong Kong to read tintin and whatnot.. saved me a lot of dough when im a kid with no job.

  • 00:12 BOOTY!

  • with every video i watch the more i am GOING to go to japan someday >:)

  • i saw a poster with something about harry potter. cooooool!

  • Who immediately thought of BL when they saw the title? XD

  • "When they cry" :)

  • dude! Higurashi! I knew it was Shion and Mion! hah!

  • I spy with my little eye, FFXIII. cX

  • akb48 cover!

  • that's horribly disrespectful, regardless of cultural norms. Basically equates to torrenting illegal shit, except they have the audacity to do it outdoors.

  • Higurashi! :D

  • You right in saying that in your country they would throw you out. Here in the UK if a man was in a bus reading this, instantly the first thing that would pop into peoples minds, Paedophile.

  • :37 that actually a horror/ slasher LOL

    Horray Higurashi

  • You can see this at Kinokuniya stores here at Singapore too. Had seen some just unwrap the book and read it.

  • hehehe maybe those two' are reading some doujin mangas :D

  • Buy it!!!!!!!!

  • This is actually rude thing.

  • I've seen that a thousand times but never took notice. What strikes me is if it's me, I'd buy the manga, sit somewhere comfortable and read it instead of standing there for hours.

  • I guess it's possible because they are really cheap

  • It's good store promotion. Eventually they will go hungry and buy something to eat from the store.

  • @g1cast your right, stores purposely doing this.

  • Is that "When They Cry"??? sick show

  • liar game!

  • HAHAHAHAHA! THATS SO FUNNY! THEY SELL HENTAI IN CONVINIENCE STORES!

  • @staggo3000 its not hentai its yuri

  • @MrLukem14 whats the diference

  • @staggo3000 a pretty god damn big difference.

  • @genin234 well what IS the difference??

  • @staggo3000 Well, since you obviously can't use Google, i'll give the definition to you.

Hentai: A work of anime or manga (or any similar medium) that contains sexual or pornographic art.

Yuri: A genre involving love between women in manga, anime, and related Japanese media.

Of course, they can be used together. However, Hentai is just blatant animated porn, while Yuri is more.... softcore I guess? Yuri and Hentai together isn't rare, but it's way less common compared to other genres.

  • @genin234 Thanks...?

  • @staggo3000 No problem.

  • @genin234 thanks for the help :)

  • @genin234

    wait still that's not yuri

  • @TheDexterarm What? If you mean the definition Google provided me with is wrong, then... well... maybe you should look into the genre and see what it is about? You can also tell me what it really is about if you think i'm wrong.

  • @genin234

wait that's not what i meant

    yuri is girl love girl

but that book is not yuri /hentai

  • @TheDexterarm Ah, I misunderstood, sorry about that. I was just explaining to the other guy what the difference is in yuri and hentai. I know its not yuri/hentai :P

  • they dont allow this in my country too

  • Yes! That Manga was Higurashi no Naku Koro ni! I believe it was Shion's Arc lol. (Sorry, it's one of my favorite stories...)

  • Liar game :0

  • They probably don't get in trouble because the security is so lax In Japan, the shop owners know they aren't going to steal it. But reading it and not buying it is kind of mean to the people who made it.

  • what if you take a chair into the shop and pick up a manga book lol

  • lol it's funny how people go to a different country with a different culture and say it's weird.

  • LMAO! I was like hmm..girls, thats cool..then freaking manga! I didn't expect that hahaha.

  • 0:47 lulz Takano XD

  • 1:15

    CHRISTMAS CAKE!!! :D

  • thats higurashi. o3o 0:35

  • what's a christmas cake?

  • lol I do that 2 but when I can I buy some 2 =3

  • Higurashi's good for the heart XD

  • Comment removed

  • Huh, what did you say? A clever double entendre? I was too busy actually being able to read the word "kurisumasu keeki".

  • Nice, you happened to pick up Higurashi... XD

  • Higurashi! Freakin' yes! XD

  • Dude! I don't have to buy any more manga! To japan!

  • how do you ask permission to video in japanese???......im going over there soon and im going to try to do a vlog

  • how do you ask permission to video in japanese??...im going over soon and i want to do a vlog

  • 0:25 thats Liar Game.

  • 0:33 Higurashi no Naku Koro ni!

  • OMG Higurashi =D

  • haha (Y)

    FiNAL FANTASY!!!!!! :D

  • YOU MEAN MANGA

  • reminds me of the scene from death note in the first episode

  • @D0OMZDAYZ omg thats exactly what i was thinking!

  • @D0OMZDAYZ Seriously... it looks EXACTLY like the store Light was in.

  • @D0OMZDAYZ Yeah!

  • wow...

  • even in france you can do that and you also have a confortable place to sit on while your reading -_^

  • "My old country". Are you from Sydney? I know out in certain places (Mount Druitt and the like), they still shout "this is not a library!" when you read magazines/papers in stores, but in other areas (particularly actual bookstores/本屋 like Dymocks) people read or even study.

  • thier magazines r like huge pages......and the price not too bad~(i nomrally buy mags with tradign cards e.g. yugioh)but msotly i buy at kinokuniya....if i get to go to japan i'll buy a load of stuff:P

  • great tit bit. I would think it would be considered rude to do this kind of thing. maybe there is an understanding that buying it would mean explaining why you have it to someone? so its understandable to all that you would just read it there. the entire thing! with a bunch of dudes. yep, I understand.

  • OMG, gaijins like you annoy me! Leave the Japanese people alone! Your country has its own flaws too. 日本は最高!好きじゃなければ出て行け!日本人は忌々しい外人はいらない! ;-)

  • @Trixiaoyu How is this a flaw? I wish I could read books and magazines free of charge

  • Which is commonly used in Japan HIragana, Kanji, or Katakana?

And which one should I learn first?

( Studyingg Japanese planning to go there when older.)

  • @xXResurixMeiYurix - I shall tell you the answer... IN JAPANESE! =3 答えは全部です!最初からひらがなとカタカナを勉強しなさい! ;-) Lol. Sorry after speaking English for 23 years I got bored. xD

  • @xXResurixMeiYurix

Trixiaoyu wrote a sentence using hiragana, katakana (even though the katakana only says 'katakana') and kanji-- Essentially, the three are used quite regularly together. Kanji and hiragana are used most often (hard to argue which is used more commonly, since many words can only be written in a combination of both), and katakana is mostly used for sounds and foreign words. I would learn hiragana first, then katakana, then kanji., Kana are pretty easy, but kanji takes years.

  • I bet most places in Japan don't mind this because people that read them probably end up buying some sort of food or drink while they are there, which compensates for them only reading, plus it means more people can come in and use the same book and still puy the store more money for food or drink

  • 0:37 I was totally: "yay higurashi no naku koro ni!!!" x3

  • Higurashi is also a really good watch. Scary and creepy but soooo good.

  • are they expensive or cheap?

  • Lol, otaku are sure to make the publishers and writers etc, good money even if not many of the people you see are buying. XD

Plus, with the foreigners that go over there, I'm sure they also feel obliged to end up buying it, lol.

  • *O* 0:38 It's Mion and Shion from Higurashi no naku koro ni !!

    Love <3333333333

    I wish I could by it ._.

  • OMG at 1:10 it was a final fantasy 13 add, japan had it in 2009.

  • Liar Game, one of my favorite mangas : )

  • hahaha, I go into Borders or Barnes and Noble and read their books sometimes. No one seems to notice. Haven't read manga in a loooong time. =(

  • Most of the mags in stores in Tokyo that I saw had tape on them to prevent reading.

  • MANGA XD WUOH HIGURASHI O.O i want to go to japan XD

  • i was under the impression that this was frowned upon (through what I've seen in anime and from what I've heard), and when I visited to Japan that was only reinforced by the fact that most of the magazine are bound shut or covered in plastic (in convenience stores)

    Was this impression wrong?

  • What was the name of that manga you showed?

  • not really uncommon in germany either

  • 0:16 AKB48!?!?! O_O That groups is everywhere in japan isn't it?

  • Aha! I spotted Final Fantasy XIII and Harry Potter's commercials :P

  • It depends which store it is in austraila...... and who running it.

  • Im japanese and i live in japan and i know to most americans japan is preverse but only a little bit of it is...Japan has really cool and traditional stuff..You just have to take time to enjoy and notice that. :]

  • HIgurashi is freakin scary o_o

  • hey what was the last manga you were looking at?

  • 0:38 aaa the higurashi manga book! I WANT >_<

  • Epic mags. LOL!

  • Reminds me of that japanese song "Convenience Store".

  • thats how I read blackest night in canada except its at book stores

  • wow they have the original kamen rider on a magazine

  • Tit bit nice:) That's happen to me on more then one occasion, i was visiting some of my Canadian buddy's in BC and we were talking about Hockey and i was about to say what my best team was but it went like this when i seen a pretty girl with no bra walk past me in chilly weather, "Hey Brex my breast team is..." and that was it man i was zoned out looking at her breats. My mates all laughed at me was good times, we opened some brews and went to meet some ladys afterwords.

  • Ahh... Higurashi 1 1/2 years until that volume comes stateside...

  • yup high school all over again lol go to my highschool the manga section guys read fuitbasket for pics girls read other things not much guy action in manga unless specifically for that. not my thing like manga though ....*naruto*

  • Nice videos keep it up!!!

  • 5 stars for the final fantasy 13 advertinsement in the window! LOLZ

  • its not the reading i find weird. their lucky hey can finish. here they tell us buy it or get out (not literally but in so many ways.) I find the row thing kind of peculiar though. O_O

what do you do if someones in front of a magazine or book you want to read?

  • Lol this is cool and funny. I would totally do this too, and my brother: he doesn't actually buy books he justs reads them at the stroe XD

  • I don't think it's wierd, it's just a different culture, if you go to Africa people will behave in a way, if you go to India it will be a different way and so on, people just aren't used to that because it's a different culture.

  • wow, higurashi nonaku. i guess that's pretty famous!

  • @sportsmansZenobia Yeah I noticed that it was pretty funny! The third manga from the 解 (solution) arc apparently... Really sexy looking cover...

But what he said is true: when I went to a book store there were all these HS guys standing in the most popular manga aisle, and it was hard to get past them. No seats either, its sort of like the manga aisle at Borders, only in japan the book shelves overflow with books. Shrinkwrapped ones. Its funny 'cas this guy went to something like a 7-11...

  • Why do no girls do that?

    And Higurashi, awesome manga. ^^

Also, very awesome of Japan. I would get kicked out in five minutes if I did that where I live.

  • I just started re-watching some of your videos now im here in japan and this video totally rings true...its so funny to walk into a convenient store and see this...lol...your videos have been a god send to help me here

  • They're reading those FUCKBOOKS prolly because they couldn't GET any... : P

  • i saw hugirashi no Naku Koro ni didn't i?!!! the manga you held 0:38, that's Shion and Mion on the cover, isn't it?

  • Awesome. Reading is healthy and educational in Japan.

  • same in the U.S. most stores wont mind if you browse through something for a minute, but if you are just standing there reading it cover to cover they are going to ask you to buy it or get out! hahaha

  • hahaha

"christmas cake" written in katakana :D

wonder what it looks like and tastes like

  • That's what I do most of the times and I get bad looks from the staff of the shops. One cannot buy every single thing that he/she likes. I just hope that more people will understand that.

  • 0:17 AKB48!!!!!!!! *spazz* 0:31 Kojima Haruna! <3 I would've bought that magazine right away; and any others that feature my favorite idols. X3 And yes, Higurashi - some crazy stuff but a great read (and watch). XD

  • how about we put it this way... the shop owners just let the people browse or read what ever they like... if they want to buy it or not it's up to them but of course there is still a common rule that says if you break if you buy it... and one more thing the mangas arent even sealed unlike here also in the philippines mangas are sealed and you're lucky to find an open one to read or to see if it is good or not (well its just my opinion)

  • lol higurashi

  • my friend said he did that in japan and got thrown out... maybe he was at the wrong store...

  • gah~ show the Myojo! or Popolo~! Show the yaoi! >;D ....XDD

  • dont they get asked to leave by the shop owner, here they eye you down and keep asking if were going to by it or not

  • liars game

  • Well most of gf's would say "PERVERT!" on 0:34 xD

  • hello budy i not see that I like your videos i hope so you writing me soon i talk whit you ok bye maata kondo

  • Higurashi's a good read.

  • @marmar040 Yes! I'm glad someone else caught that! Hahaha.

  • Tit bits... Good one :-)

thanks for uploading all these videos!

  • @EXetoC

    Thanks for getting it!

    ^_^

  • I can't believe the store let you in with a camera.

When I went, I brought a camera everywhere, and I got yelled at...alot. Dx

  • @TheLastSophieAlive

    I ask permission before filming..

  • Ahh.

I did most of the time. But even on the public streets some people yelled at me.

    Kinda disconcerned me.

And, it's 11 AM for you right now, is it not? xD

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom how do you ask for permission? so you just say " could i film " lol sry for the dum question

  • I too thought it was weird and why they didn't get kicked out.

Now that I think about it, I think the store accepts this trend to create sales on other items like drinks and food in the convenience store the readers may purchase after they finished reading. Also to get the customer back.

Kicking them out would only cause negative reflection on the store and sales figures.

  • Haha, Higurashi, Meakashi-hen. Can't wait 'till that comes out in english :3.

  • One thing about Japanese magazines that always bugged me was that they always seem to use as many different colours on the cover as possible. I'd be worried about having a seizure!

  • "kinda weird" indeed! I personally think this aspect of Japanese culture, is more so, kind of interesting though. The fact that they love comic books so much. I don't know...

  • lulz higurashi

  • hmm interesting stuff... 5 Stars

  • HI Mr. Japanese Channel. How do you earn your livings there? Sayonara, Serkant! (+.*)/

  • When I visited Osaka I went to the Family Mart and stood with a bunch of other guys reading magazines. Most were looking at boobs. I was. ^_^

  • Ooh i saw this in a movie once but i didn't realize this was that popular. Thanks 4 the vid!!

  • higurashi! lol

  • @4492kunoichi *shudders*......creepy/scary....

  • A nice place...i like it! If i lived in Japan, I would spend a little of my free time there...just reading and chatting with other fans :D

  • Always your video is interesting!

  • @109mytiger

    Thank you

  • so, pretty obvious question here, but dont they lose out on business by letting people do that? or is the idea that they sort of 'display' people reading their stuff in the hopes of attracting more people and then they double hope that stuff actually gets paid for? on a side note....wtf, we need that same system here

  • @rextz

Yeah, it makes the store look busy and is good for business :-)

  • manga :] i remember reading Death Note.

but thennn ppl say "OMG manga/japanese anime is PORN!"

not all of them look like that ;-; just look at deathnote.. i would wanna visit japan some day. do you know much of japanese spoken there? :] im planning to learn some in high school

  • @poouopo

I try to keep this channel about Japan rather than about me.. there are too many "vloggers" on youtube already :-D

But I choose to live here because I prefer the society.

The rest of the 250 videos will give you an idea why :-)

  • Man, you presented the manga Higurashi no naku koro ni!!

...Anyways, thanks a lot for uploading stuff about Japan!

  • @Kris12lil

    More coming!

  • whats with japan and the constant sex images of women

  • 60 year-old dudes?

  • thats hentai

  • Was that manga you were holding Higurashi no Naku Koro ni? It looks just like it.

  • @Lolichan15

    Yes :-)

  • They're fantasizing! :)

BTW dude, you should make a follow-up video. Ask the shop owner/manager/clerk (whoever is availble) about:

    1)what they think of that.

    2) do they buy any books

    3) is it good for business

    4) do they ever cause any trouble

    5) why doesn't he throw them out

You might have to try several different stores b/c of your camera.

  • @LivingDog94

    I already asked them.

Good for business because it makes the store look popular.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom: amazing - so simple - so clever.

    Thanks dude.
