  • If I could have acted with Sandra Dee and made out with her..I'd went to bed with him too lol

  • OMG Troy was handsome.

  • Qué bello se ve Troy Donahue, hace una linda pareja con Sandra Dee!! El que entra a la habitación a las 2:42', es el actor Richard Egan!! desde San José Costa Rica los saludo!! : p 02.09.2011

  • I watched this movie yesterday.........what a beautiful movie. Thank you so much for posting.

  • this was such a cute movie, but it was a bit surprising that they dealt with the issue of sex, particularly sex before marriage. the ending though made it seem like a mistake, which was good to see since movies back then try to teach a moral in the story and they also wanted to get married in a church before God. but they truly loved each other, but the movie defiently gave a warning to young couples who want to do more then just kissing and stuff. good movie, and very sweet. sandra dee = CUTIE!

  • My all time fav movie!... Sandra Dee was so cute!... and Troy Donahue, oh so handsome!

  • How come her mother or dad didn't explain that it really, REALLY hurts the first time and you have to remember to have an old towel handy because she'll bleed and be sore for days afterward. But . . . it gets better.

  • I really disliked this movie...

  • This was the American dream

  • A real tear jerk movie. The music, the actors. Beautiful memories of Old Americana.

  • A movie that tried to teach us how to love and how beutiful life can be if you let it, we dumb humans have lots of passion whitch is great but now we have to become spiirt ual and then we all will start to heal our problems.

  • FOR THOSE WHO LOVE SANDRA DEE. Her last interview, on italian television, partially spoken in english. Fantastic document.

Paolo Limiti intervista Sandra Dee - 4 parts

  • Constance Ford's character had me laughing throughout the movie. I still gasp when she called Troy Donahue's mom a harlot. hahahahahahahaha!

  • where can i watch the full video of this?

  • I was 17 when "Summer Place " debuted in 1959. The song's theme was on the radio for weeks..I love all the actors in the movie, but sadly they've all passed now. Troy Donahue remains the classic young leading man.....

  • @ftjax i wish i'd been 17 in 1959. i was a baby then. :)

  • @ftjax i believe troy donahue was a big star....as famous as elvis presley during the late 50's to mid 60's.

  • get a cell phone troy!!

  • Fue "esa" película que tienes en tu mente y te lleva a tu juventud.¡Gracias!

  • Sandra dee was an incredible actress. Too bad though, that besides Gidget, she never was never allowed a decent script. Her talents were mostly mis- used and her character absolutely mis-understood back in the day. Today she wouldnt be allowed to look at a bad prospect.

  • Delmer Daves directed this smash hit at WB starring Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue. Donahue would go on to make 3 more Daves' films

Susan Slade, Rome Adventure and my favorite of the 4 Donahue/Daves films

Parrish. Great movies. Troy was a great movie star and his career deserves to be noted and hope someone writes a book on this star who for a short time in the 60's was a huge star at WB with A Summer Place, Parrish, Susan Slade,

Palm Springs Weekend, Distrant Trumpet and My Blood Runs Cold

  • ME ENCANTA ESTA PELICULA, ES UNA DE MIS FAVORITAS, SALE MI NOVIO TROY (AUNQUE EL NO SUPO QUE LO ERA). LA INCOMPRENSION DE LA MADRE, LA FALTA DE CONFIANZA EN LOS HIJOS, ESAS CONDUCTAS SON TIPICAS DE LA VIDA. ERA UNA PAREJA SENSACIONAL, GRACIAS POR COMPARTIR ESTOS FRAGMENTOS TAN MARAVILLOSOS.

  • Tab Hunter & Troy Donohue look someone alike but Tab was WAAAAYYY better looking.

  • I just love this movie,is one of my favorites

  • GENIAL ESTAS PELICULAS DE LA DECADA DEL 50 Y 60, LASTIMA QUE YA NO SE HACEN, NO BUSCABAN GRANDES MENSAJES, PERO ENTRETENIAN

  • I love the headlines and photos on the newspapers.

  • I love the headlines and photos on the newspapers.

  • handsome troy

  • Does anyone know if they have the full movie on YouTube I love Sandra Dee and he is HOT!

  • i love !!!!!!!!

  • @MOUZANDZENA1 the acting in this clip is not good, watch Jack Nicholson, Troy is like one of those bad newsreaders

  • @MOUZANDZENA1 Yeah, Liberace wasn't Gay either. Why is there such a difficulty accepting the facts about someone you might admire? Is it so horrible? Are you so homophobic? "Bios" don't always tell the truth and there was a need to cover up in order to have a career at that time. The plain fact is that "Troy" became a star by having notorious agent Henry Willson, the same as Hunter and Rock Hudson. He gave parts to handsome guys who went to bed with him..

  • What a great movie! The speak with such class! Love it! Thanks for posting!

  • There was a place

where we could start over again

A place where we met all over again

    a summer place...

  • I have been hearing this song since I was little and I didn't know whose song it was until I searched it yesterday!!

  • Comment removed

  • Who cares if Troy is gay.

I have also heard that Barack Obama is a gay muslim and that his marriaged was arranged to hide his homosexuality...it is an aberration not very welcome amongst blacks. So...hurrah for our first Gay and Black President.

Stop being so uptight and labeling people for their sexual proclivities.

They are all human beings and children of God for heaven sake.

The movie was nice, the musical score fanstasic...eternal !

  • it was better back then for alot of reasons..one was segregated schools.

we live in a vulgar oversexed selfish society....liberalism has dominated our culture for the last 45 years and we all have paid a huge price.

we need to take back our country from the liberal socialists.

  • @MrSpringtime22 u make good points but segregation is wrong in all forms

  • @MrSpringtime22 Shut the hell up. Why do right wing freaks always have to promote their garbage on non political videos.

  • @Dreamz19 right wing freaks? more like leftwing nutjobs! why do YOU idiots have to comment on what is otherwise a pretty conservative film? its a free country, i can say anything i want be it rightwing or daft-wing. liberals are RUINING this great country and want to make it socialism. so SCREW YOU.

  • @burtonrules123 I wasn't even talking to you!!. I was talking to the right wing freak who felt the need to bring up politics and trash people. But since you want to respond in his honor, this isn't a right or left wing movie. Its warped people like you who are destroying this country. Everything always has to be about right or left...liberal or conservative...democrat or republican. People like you who turn everything political just to stir up hate and division make me sick. Shut up already!

  • This movie is an absolute classic..and Sandra Dee is the cutest thing I've ever seen, just a gorgeous young lady.

  • Troy is a Handsome!!!!!

  • Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee...

  • I was 14 yold when that movie, I love it...

  • I sure love Sandra Dee, though

  • this is the movie that i haven't forgotten in my whole life. i watched this movie when i was 12 y/o. i also loved the soundtract of the same title. thanks for posting.

  • Oh Sanndy,Oh Sandy. She is so beautiful. One of my all time favorites.

  • Well said, 9aspengold5. I agree 100% with you on this. We may be "old" but at least we lived through some good times. Things are truly f*cked up these days. I just couldn't imagine being a teen and I don't believe the kids today can even begin to understand the things we all experienced. (Love the comment about texting!)

  • @LesbianVampireLover Well, I'm just 16, and to be honest, I'd rather be living 50 years ago..^ ^

  • If there was ever a LIVING DOLL.......it was Sandra Dee! Just simply a vision of lovelyness! Will always love and miss you Sandra...

  • That hasn´t changed. Look what´s happened with Tiger Woods. His unfaithfulness transformed into a tv show due to his sponsors´ pressures. My favorite film about teenage love is Splendor in the grass (1961) with Warren Beatty and Natalie Wood. No film has narrated the awakening of sex and the failure of hopes and dreams of youth like this. The last scene with Wood reciting Wordsworth´s poem after seeing her first love is touching.

  • These films could be more beautiful and innocent than nowadays, but they also reflected a very hypocritical society, full of puritanism, racism and intolerance. One ought to behave as society expected him/her to act. Young actors forced to have fake girlfriends or to get married in order to hide their homosexuality. Young actresses exploited by their parents or with problems of alcohol/drugs abuse. Real life is not so clean and beautiful, and I think we´re happier today.

  • @MrAntinoo things haven't changed much have they? i.e. LIndsey Lohan !!!!

Every generation has it's problems. It just seems that with the increase of

news reporting, text messaging, etc. we hear about it more now. Happiness

is what you make of the life you are in.

  • Findind happiness is a difficult task. Many times we can´t chose what we like or we must do what we dislike. Being a single mother, gay or black in the 50-60´s was a long way of discrimination and humiliation. Life has changed for better although intolerance and fanatism will always exist. If you read the biographies of Hollywood stars you realize how the big studios manipulated their lifes in order to build an image of perfection that didn´t correspond to reality. I don´t believe in perfection.

  • @MrAntinoo Only Jesus can fill that void, my friend. (I know, this is unexpected etc)

Very few were gay in the 50's and 60's though

  • @sparwood8 Had to comment as your comment is so so dumb, there were the same amount as gays in the 50's and 60's you just had to be in the closet or get beat up or even killed. Troy is gay and only came out a couple years a go. People would say things in a hushed voice he or she was that way.

  • Many people are confusing Troy Donahue (who passed away several years ago and was engaged to a woman at the time of his death) with Tab Hunter, who is alive and well and has been officially "out" for quite a while. The two were often mistaken for one another, as Tab pointed out in his autobiography. Donahue was bisexual, but more interested in women. He had a lot of problems with drugs and alcohol, which accounts for why he had such a difficult time maintaining relationships.

  • @MrAntinoo

we're happier today...are you sure about that?

    think again my friend

  • I met Troy at a film fest in charlotte n.c,and spent 3 days with him selling, as he autographed pictures. He was so nice and down to earth. He agreed to come to my vietnam reunion in tenn but died soon after that. How those veterans would have acted in he walked in with me. It was not meant to be..Rest in peace troy...

  • Tab Hunter, a huge heart throb....and big mo!

  • Sadly they are both now gone. Troy was about 65 when he died in 2001 and Sandra Dee was only about 61 when she passed away in 2005. I'm thankful that I was of an age to view & enjoy such simple, but joyous, films. (I'm 63) Sandra Dee was one of my all-time favorites and Troy always reminds me of the television series (cirac; 1960) "Surfside Six." Love live the memory of these two.

  • IMO the three central figures of Fifties culture were Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and Mickey Mantle. The three most under-rated were Connie Francis, Troy Donahue, and Sandra Dee ((Conections to Bobby Darin mearly coincidental)

  • No one else noticed the line...

"...my father and your mother getting married..." doesn't that mean that they're brother and sister (ok step brother/sister) but still ewwwww incest anyone?

  • @therealrapantaleo I'm assuming your a women or a gay guy with the eww But lets say your a female and your parents adopt a boy, now he is your brother but not blood brother so lets say you want to play with his penis one day, ok as your not blood related it would not be that bad so you can rest assured that your desire to have him hump you while mom and day are out is ok Got it

  • @stickitupyourasteric

you're a moron that's not even worth the time for me to form even a cogent response... so bite me how bout that?

  • @therealrapantaleo They have to be blood related for it to be incest and besides they were dating before there parents decided to marry

  • Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee were box office magic in Delmer Daves romantic WB film A Summer Place. This movie made them both enormous stars. Sandra Dee went on to Universal and was a major star for 7 years. Troy Donahue remained at WB and was a major star with smash hits Parrish, Rome Adventure, Palm Springs Weekend, A Distant Trumpet, Susan Slade, et al. For a time both of these stars were so popular and Troy and Sandra deserved to be both celebrated for their stardom and remembered.

  • I ADORE this movie! =)

  • I loved Sandra Dee in all those, innocent girl series on the river boat; poor but soooo cute and sweet!....Tammy, I think it was..

  • I remember seeing this film, Loved it, Troy, the Music, beautiful Sandra Dee

  • I remember this movie, too. Love the song playing in the background....There's a summer place.... Thanks for the clip.

  • Troy was so handsome!!!!

  • Woww he is very beautiful man!!! i would love to see your movie..

  • Ahhhh, back when love was love!

  • @44skins

and movies were real movies...not the crap that's out there now desensitizing our children AND grandchildren!

  • In my part of the world we always that that phoning long distance in US movies was the height of sophistication. The whole of England isn't even long distance.

  • what a theme tune!

  • a summer place by andy williams

  • Look at me,I'm Sandra Dee,lousy with virginity!Name the movie that line came from.

  • @594bolt

    It's from Grease, of course!

  • @594bolt

It came from Grease the musical in 1978

  • i love this song

  • I love those phones!!

  • lindo.......

  • I was born the year this movie came out annd it has always been one of my very favs. The song is my all time fav. song. To cymbali, it must have been a very special treat to spend the time with Troy and get to know the person. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANY GIRL ALONE AND NEEDING A VERY GOOD MOVIE TO CURL UP AND WATCH.

  • song was billboard's number one hit for a record 9 weeks, AND on the day i was born

  • Had the chance to spend 3 days with Troy just before he died. He was 65 years old. I got to know him really well. What a great down to earth guy he was..Thanks Troy

  • @cymbali

I met his double for his movies and TV and his wife (Teri and Don Stroud) in Hawaii at the Hawaii Music awards a few years ago. My husband and I happened to be sitting at the same table they were at. Teri said he was very happy just before his death and was planning to get married. It was so sad that he died swo suddenly. She said he had been in an accident but wasn't hurt but suddenly died a few days later. (It's my favorite movie and instrumental song.) Ann Adams, Kailua, HI

  • When I ws in the sixth grade I talked my mother into letting me see this on a school night with a friend! 1960 I have loved it since then.

  • even teens were photographed in soft focus then...

  • Dude... I've gotta see this movie!

Where... I said 'Where Can i buy this...?

    'Oh Dearie Dearie Me!

  • C'est le temps où l'amour nous envahissait tout doucement mais intensément, où la prudeur nous réservait toute la beauté et le charme d'une relation amoureuse.

  • These two persons really made a very handsome couple. But unfortunately they did not end up get married to each other.

She was married to singer Bobby Darin.

  • Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin weren't married at the time this movie was made.

  • They dont make movies like this anymore! hollywood has lost it's creativity.

  • I think you have to look at the Independent films if you want to see creativity anymore.

  • I always wanted to be thinner like them.

  • i love the song, and the movie

  • what a beatiful love and what beatiful emotions...

  • i wish i was living in this era...

  • I always love Sandra Dee....!!

  • Why can't I be 20 again!?

  • "Back in the 1950s and 1960s [when I was teenager], young people seemed to be more mature than young people of the same age today"

    That's true.

  • That makes no sense!

  • they are supposed to be teens but they look old like the character from Grease---they are impersonating teenagers in high school but they look more like college seniors . i mean i am a teenager but i love old movies

  • sweetface1502:

When this movie was made, Sandra Dee was 17 & Troy Donahue was 23. Sandra looked to be about 19-20 years old.

Back in the 1950s and 1960s [when I was teenager], young people seemed to be more mature than young people of the same age today, although the legal age for almost everything back then was 21. For example, I could fly a million dollar aircraft in combat but I was not old enough to be served beer or drink (alcohol)!

Like you, I love these old movies.

  • saw this movie with my old buddy ed joyal back in 1959 !!!! time sure flies !!!! ty for the up load !!!!

  • "are you bad Johnny" I'd be bad with At that time I would have been bad with Troy too.

  • 2:00 Sounds like St. Paul's Cathedral Buffalo.

  • 避暑地の出来事 は音楽は勿論知ってますが映画は見たことがありませんでした。

    トロイドナヒューが凄く若くてモア、ハンサムで

    感激しちゃいました。やっぱり素敵です。

    映画すべてをみたいな

  • Troy and Sandra were the best in my teenage year, okay I was a babe in those years.

    Thx 4 posting

  • Comment removed

  • her hair can't really be tht blonde. it looks fake! is it real?

  • Dippity-Doo and a whole new YOU!

  • I wish I could see this movie-- It looks really good. No stores sell it anywhere near me.. Hopefully they will soon.

  • Try Barnes and Nobles Stores that sell not just books but DVDs and CDs.

  • I love the scene with Sandra and Troy huddled on the beach, near Richard Egan and Dorothy McGuires love pad. You know, where she talks about crazy, new, mixed-up feelings. Sandra says, Johnny, have you been bad? Have you been bad with other girls? I always thought he should have answered, No, Ive been GOOD, baby, R-E-A-L , REAL GOOD.

  • Sandra Dee was such a cutie and Troy was so handsome.

  • @chrissylm37 LOL my cousin Donna met him in Seattl, at the World's fair in '60. He liked her but she'd met this guy named Henry and eventually............ U know the rest

  • @sparwood8 ... your cousin was crazy to pass up Troy, but back in the 60's "morals" meant something.

  • @chrissylm37 Not crazy. Troy nice guy, but so many in that business have problems etc. I won't say anything more.

  • @chrissylm37 Troy was gay, so she didn't pass up anything

  • Respond to this video... Troy was gay

  • @chrissylm37 sp * SEATTLE*

  • Great movie! 5* post thanks.

  • The story line was wonderful and broke down taboos about sex and opened the line of communication with their kids. Too bad parents parents didn't learn from this movie.

  • A sweet movie - Troy Donahue was so handsome!

  • You're an IDIOT !!!!

  • Tab Hunter is out of the closet.

Troy Donahue was married several times and had kids. There is little to suggest he was gay.

  • quiero la pelicula completa como la puedo ver??? si alquien sabe que me lo diga please,,,tengo muchas ganas de verla gracias

  • This song won Percy Faith the Grammey in 1960. What a surpurb song...the beachhouse scene, Hubba,Hubba.

Thanks roried, I've never heard of an affair between the two (Not That There's Anything Wrong With That), but I would have thought Dean would have had better taste.

  • I'm afraid you don't have your facts straight. James Dean died on 9-30-55.

"A Summer Place" was filmed in 1958 and released in 1959. So, what do you say we forget what you wrote altogether, because it just isn't true.

  • I'm 47...Missed remembering the late 1950s by about a dozen years...I absolutely LOVE this era! I remember seeing this movie on TCM a long time ago...I loved the line where Sandra Dee asks: "Johnny...Have you been bad with girls?" Ha!!! I'm sure that 50s audiences knew EXACTLY what she meant by "bad with girls"!!! Terrific times and terrific movie, too!!!

  • I'm 12 years older and was lucky to remember living the 60's. Though we had problems with Viet Nam, we had innocence, human contact (not texting), verbal phone conversations courtesy, politeness, respect for education etc..I am so glad to have lived that generation. I feel sorry for kids nowadays who can't remember the "good old days"..

  • @9aspengold5

Amen to that!!!! i was born in 1961 and they were the sweet and innocent days. i am a preschool teacher and it troubles me how the parenting goes. so different from when we were kids...

  • @jacki1961 you probably remember when we had dinners together as a family, made to come indoors when the street lights lite up at dark, walked together to school, had one TV for the whole family to watch etc. I live next to a school bus stop. It is troubling to see mothers "drive" 1/2 block to drop the kids off for the bus to go to a school that is just one block down the way. They wait up to 1/2 hour in all weather to get the bus. What happened to just walking down the street to school.

  • @jacki1961 my congrats to you for having the courage to

be a preschool teacher. It is difficult but oh so rewarding isn't

it? I used to teach middle level special education. Would never

    trade those years for anything.

  • @9aspengold5 thank you on behalf of (some of) the kids of this generation. I listen to skeeter davis and peggy march and hate how people only contact through phone and text these days. sometimes I think i was born in the wrong decade :)

  • @cartergirl3of3 You are lucky to have the vision and open mindedness

to enjoy the world of different generations. I am 60 years and am glad to have enjoyed experiencing the wonders of the past generations. Keep your

heart open and mind active with curiosity. Best wishes to you.

  • I am 65 and miss those innocent days of my teens. I remember having to be 16 in order to see A Summer Place.

  • This is one of the best movies ever made. LOVE IT

  • Johnny is soooo cute

  • Johnny sure is a lucky guy!

  • I love her

  • This movie was fantastic. I could watch it over and over again. Her mother was a horriable person thank god she had a good father.

  • This sounds so silly now, but in 1959, when I saw this, I went to the theatre several times, and memorized all the love scenes lines - all the parts where they played the Theme from a Summer Place in the background - the scene in the rose garden, this one, the one on the beach, and in the beach house (talking about King Kong)...This was my fantasy about how romance between two teenagers should be. Guess I never really got over it.

  • beautiful film and an equally beautiful theme!

  • Happy 50th Anniversary to 'A Summer Place'.

    Hollywood producers with remake-on-the-brain.........NO WAY.

  • absolutel no way...lol

it is a lovely film i agree!

  • This year is also the 50th anniversary of Miss Dee's signature film Gidget, which became the standard by which all beach movies are measured.

If you do NOT want a remake of Gidget..raise your hand.

  • sorry my friend..i can't raise or not raise my hand 4 that one i haven't seen Gidget so therefore would'nt be able to decide honesty if it's worthy of a remake!

  • Both Troy Donahue and Sandra Dee made A Summer Place such a memorable movie... Even after 40 odd years, it never fails to touch a chord in me... The pure innocence of love in the 60s is so nostalgic... Happy New Year!!

  • Sandra was as beautiful a woman could be.

  • Johnny are you bad? Have you been bad with girls?

  • Ahhhh. The beautiful people. I wanted to look like her and I wanted him to look at me. lol

He did not swing both ways and said if anything his problem was that he like women too much. Loved the theme too.

  • My friend, Patti, and I would watch the Troy Donahue week every year on Channel 8 in New Jersey for about 6 years. Love that man!!!

  • i think you've got him comfused with tab hunter, they looked alike and played the same sort of character. troy wasn't gay at all, but tab hunter was. Anyway a Troy Donahue movie collection is being released in Jan 2009! it's called classic romances but they're all the teeny ones with troy. i can't wait!

  • Really? You mean movies like "Parrish" and "Susan Slade" and "Rome Adventure" AND "A Summer Place?!!!!" Tell me! I can't wait!

  • sandra dee and troy doahue ..(grease)remember the song?in grease?

this movie was the most talked about ,as she got pregnant,a true love story ,and painful too ..they loved each other so much,i thought he was the most handsome man on the movies..(both dead now tho''===+==she had issues in childhood, and he drank and got real fat..sad huh?

  • Troy was hot. Rumors say be went both ways, but who cares

  • Great movie! It was a movie for grown ups only cause Sandra Dee gets "in trouble" and they 'have' to get married...!!

  • I never knew that there was a movie by this name. I've ever only known the phenomenal melody "A Summer Place" which I understand was originally composed in tribute to wonderful Canadian summers - does anyone know if this is true?

  • Well, all I know is Percy Faith was canadian, but the composer of this theme is Max Steiner, who was austrian.

Anyway, I guess both summers, canadian and austrian must be wonderful. Remember "The sound of music" and its incredible austrian landscapes...

  • Oh indeed, who can forget TSOM. I can never get tired of the TSOM songs. Every one of them is a classic.

  • luiscnaranjo:

Being close to Buffalo and Canada I can tell you one thing about the Canadien (and ours) summer... It's way too short!

  • Oh i loved this movie!!Wow the good old days.I almost a married a man who looked like this hunk.
