these guys from america are real comedians...hunting little jack bunnies weighing 1.5 pound with a full grown female hariss hawk.. in europe falconers with female hawk or goshawk catch rabbbits up to 12 pounds, sometimes even a roe.....
Everyone here who wants to be a falconer, keep this in mind...raptors are non-affectionate animals, having no ability to deal with dominant or submissive roles (except the Harris' Hawk). They do not "love" the falconer, they will not aim to please him; they are simply opportunistic and learn that life with the falconer affords the easiest and most reliable source of food and protection. Continuing the relationship, then, is a matter of convenience for the raptor.
@taijiangah im glad some1 said that because theres to many wanna be falconers who think that the falcon is a pet like it is in my side of the mountain. when infact a falcon is a tool for hunting that must be constantly trained otherwise it wont work anymore. thats y falconry is so closely monitored to prevent ppl who cant care for the bird all the time from ever obtaining 1. and for people who work all the time, having a falcon is almost impossible.
Do you guys have fields where you can make the RT soar? I do that here in California and its a blast watching the Hawk come from a dot and hit its prey Just the best thing ever.... And its not a FALCON !! LOL
14 to start training, after 5 years of training you get license (so you'll be 19 when you finish and you can catch (or buy), train, and hunt with your "raptor"
you need a ton of Permits and items so have about $500 - 1,000. but its SO worth it.
the only annoying thing is you Might sometimes catch a Noisy one "CRAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWW!!CAAAW!!"
the food is free if you can catch it. after training He/she can catch it.
super cool vid...hehe but we normal use the birds the other way round ;-) harris hawk for squerls and redtails for rabbits;-)..was cool to the other way round;-)
Great looking birds. I remember the first time I went hawking and it was an absolute blast. I'm hoping to trap my hawk this winter after I get certified.
why is the harris hawk an exception?
Molhedim 6 months ago
@Molhedim They are social raptors and live and hunt in family groups in the wild.
Chinchillazilla54 4 months ago
You do not have to "train" red tails to hunt squirrels. They take them in the wild quiet often.
