  • I love what youre doing man you don't know how much youre helping if I was older I would donate all my money!

  • by far one of the finest guitarists and best tutors...keep it up man!!!

  • Hey Justin how long have u been playing

  • This is such a helpful video! I've been trying tons of sweep picking drills, but this one seems to work very well. Thanks a lot!

  • Your thumbnail is very shiny.

  • it is actually very unclean...but he has the technique right

  • So, he's "not very good at it"? :) Yeah, sure Justin!

Anyway...'I play a 7.25" radius neck, my strat being a '62 RI, so how will this affect me when I try to play this kinda stuff? I notice your tele's neck is very 'flat' looking. Does this matter at all?

  • That mini shred and pause to scratch your eye was badass lol

  • S owho exactly am I flicking off? PS: It doesn't sound like anything when I do...

  • is it my idea or teles are awesome guitars for everything? :D

  • Nice sweep picking dude, i know what you mean when you say its hard to do those long arpeggios, i even think its cooler when you use short ones because you can fit them into just about anything and even experiment with different fingerings, so NICE VIDEO!

  • I have never held a guitar in my hands before, but watching Your fingers running so effortlessly up and down and left ang right across this instrument is nothing short of a STUNNING EXPERIENCE ! Tomorrow I'm gonna buy myself my first musical tool, of course none other than a guitar !

  • nice! what kind of tele? never seen it...

  • Justin, U Rock! Now can I have your tele? Ha,ha

    from Texas.

  • nice sweeps i have an original sweep song called 13th hour on my channel

  • Lol "flick off"

  • Thanks Dude!

  • 4:50 Br-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r

  • Lol I find them hard to use cause there so big XD

  • As my band made me play the A tout le monde solo (Megadeth) I'm kinda forced to learn sweeping now :)

This really helped A LOT, although I still find it hard to go from 3 to 4 strings.

    Big thanks

  • the best sweep picking lesson!!!!!!

  • I HATE BRITS!!!!

  • Thanks man!

  • The diminished arpeggios move in intervals of 4, not 3. Just remember to say that.

  • nice post brada

  • thanks justing :)

  • Thanks man you are awesome.

  • sweet telecaster

  • really nice i am trying but i cant play fast :( so i'm gonna keep doing it slow hoping one day i am gonna be able to do it..

  • @arontao Hey Man I got a Good sweep Picking Vid.For ya Camera Quality isn't is good as his, But the Sound is ok!

  • @arontao Hang in there! That's how all the best guitarists, like justin here, got where they are today :) were probarly at the same level, and we should both be patient, and we'll make it!

  • YES! Justin Sandercoe taught me to sweep pick. Thank you!

  • lol justin, where you inspired by lessons 28-29-30 from mickey baker jazz guitar?

  • holy shit i can't :(( !!!!!

  • Holy shit I can actually do it. And quickly. I never thought I could play this quickly. Thanks!! :D

  • You make a great point, big sweeps sound more extravagant but almost everyone that focuses on them has a very limited playing and composing style. They spend most of their practice time focusing on them.

They also produce a lot of arrogant idiots that can out sensationalize a lot of other players but can't compose for shit lol.

Smaller sweeps and formulating your own unique focused position sequences produces a much more emotional, artistic composition.

    Also makes you faster.

  • Would you suggest training the lik you do at 7:20 with pinky finger (using 4 fingers)? it's harder, but eventually when one learns it with pinky, would it be more beneficial?

  • Would you suggest training the lik you do at 7:20 with pinky finger (using 4 fingers)? it's harder, but eventually when one learns it with pinky, would it be more beneficial?

  • cool stuff cant wait to bring to the stage

  • Nice delay!

    And nice mini-sweeping!

  • Justin- you're the man!!

  • best teacher

  • Hey Justin!

I'm watching this (awesome) lesson and I think we've got the same problem.

When I play C note and then E note, I hear a little unclean sound.

It's hard to play it fast and clean.

BTW You're very good teacher! :)

  • You're a excellent guitarist and even better teacher.

Thanks for the free lessons, they're much appreciated.

  • Excellent stuff Justin, everything's put across so very well, me being a drummer and an eternally frustrated guitarist. I also love the hat collection and I'm looking forward to seeing an Ignatius J. Reilly/Elmer Fudd style hunter's hat sometime dude.

  • haha mushroom tat :D

  • fingernails O.O

  • hey justin is that the 57 champ in the background? if it is what do you think of that amp for clean and blues?

  • whenever i pull off to change string the my finger pulling off makes the previous string sound help please!

  • @ragekilord I have the same problem. I thought about getting the action lowered, but as an experiment i played with a capo on something like the 7th fret which sort of lowers the action. I found some improvement. If you have 2 electric guitars, maybe one could be set up with a low action and you can use that for sweeping and tapping.

  • @bubblegoose100 I have just found some websites and they say Eric CRAPton is the most unoriginal musician. It compares his guitar playing to Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd on one site and it shows how basic and pants CRAPtons riffs are, the video switches to Gilmour and he is playing a similar riff to CRAPton. Where Crapton repeats the riff overe and over again, you see Gilmour using this riff once and going into another level or world. I will send you the links in private mail :)

  • @SuperARandall It's all the blues man. Many musicians rely on this scale...it's all about putting your own personal twist on it, which is why these guys got so big.

  • Visiting your web-site I see in example 4 you write the second half of the measure (beats 3 and 4) as a group of 5. Do I count this as 5 even notes in 2 beats or is it a triplet and 2 eighth notes?

  • @fosterjaml4 I just wrote it as a group of five to fit in the bar. Use whatever!

  • @JustinSandercoe Question: What kind of grip should you have on your pick? Should you have a stiff grip? Or a flexible/loose grip? I find that if it's too stiff, my sweeps turn into chops and lag a bit, but if it's too loose, I have to constantly adjust my pick. So what kind of grip should I be going for, and is there a particular angle/position that I should be holding my pick at? What should my pick be doing as I go into an upstroke and try to sweep up?

  • after searching for dozens of sweep instructionals on youtube i have finally found one that helps me. thanks, j

  • @Kaitano94 I noticed you have referred to Justin as J. Please dont do this, as its only close friends of Justin that call him J (myself included). Although i have referred to him as Justin in my comments, this is to encourage other channel users to refer to him as Justin and not J.

Thanks for your co operation, i shall apologise on your behalf to Justin as i will be advising him on some techniques later this week

  • @SuperARandall Nice try, dick-wad. I saw your page and it appears you're a millionaire troll. Try to be a little smarter next time, eh?

  • @Kaitano94 ERIC CRAPTON, You sad POOR lonely fucker. Find yourself a girlfriend and start listening to some decent music. My name is Eric CRAPTON and tonight i am going to play a song about my depression over having a small chin...after stealing riffs from proper guitarists!! I would keep quiet and put my head down in shame. You have opened the door idiot. You are jealous of mine and Justins friendship and i have more money than yow!! Ill put something shit on my page for you...ERIC CRAPTON!!!

  • @SuperARandall LOL Eric Crapton. Couldnt agree with you more. His the most overated musician. You hear the same old riffs and picking his been doing for years. Im still laughing at your comments. Its people like you who make Youtube so entertaining.

Justin, keep up the good work!!

  • @SuperARandall i think we all would love to see you do better

  • @a55edwards Thanks. I was expecting someone to say they would hate to see me do better, but if you would love to see me do better, thats really nice of you

    thanks

  • @Kaitano94 Sorry mate, Eric Clapton just isnt my cup of tea, but each to their own

  • @Kaitano94 Not looking good for Eric CRAPton!

  • justin is awesome at lessons. i've learned quite a bit from him. now im doing giant "slide sweep taps" cleanly and easily. gotta start of sloo yall.

  • No justin no!! You gotta teach us how to use our left hand little fingers! (i.e the diminished sweep :P You will get some more stretches on the top note of the sweep. But other than than, amazing lessons, ive seen EVERY SINGLE ONE so far, i dont know where i would be without you man.

  • justin, that is some crazy speed,i wonder will i ever get there!

  • Oh for the love of freedom-of-speech-within-YouTube-comments!

First of all, once again great lesson, Justin, keep 'em coming.

@SuperARandall What in the world are you worrying about? Justin didn't say the word "variations" in that particular way because of his accent (which is awesome, by the way). It's just a little funny how he said it, and I think we should all have a laugh about it instead of pointing fingers to people who supposedly use "slurs" or whatever you accused me of. Alright?

  • @MercyStudios Look Mercy, me and Justin have discussed this matter and it was misunderstanding. I dont think people realize how much time and effort Justin puts into this. I will not get into a dispute with you. You could have put a smiley icon ":)" to show you were joking. Im so sorry if my comment offended you as i am a bigger fan of Justin, probably the most biggest. I hope this can be the end of the matter. I would say his lessons are more than great. I would say THE BEST!!!

  • @MercyStudios I have had no reply back from you, but i hope you have forgiven me for my uneccessary outburst. If you could just let me know that your ok with the situation (or Situ-Asian) and i can report back to Justin and reassure him we have sorted the problem out. Hope you liked my joke about Situ-Asian. Also let me know what you think of my joke as my wife found this funny as well and she would love to know your feelings on this. I really love Justin. He has had such an impact on me

    :)

  • @SuperARandall are u kidding me?

  • @S1ay3R007 Can you let me know exactly what you are accusing me of kidding you. I have discussed many issues, so please be a bit more clearer!!

  • Great tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to create/post it with both fretboard and right hand picking motion!

  • Nice lesson Justin!!

  • what is that thing on your left arm

  • great lesson! This guy is a great teacher! Thanks Justin.

  • Hey Justin, is that the Eric Johnson pick !?! Wondered were I left it!

    lol!

  • Thanks a lot - a great video - clear instruction and nicely filmed so it is easy to understand. I've been playing guitar for many years and have never got the hang of sweep picking. I think this will help, as long as i am patient! Your humility is a nice quality. Thanks for the help!

  • hey thanks justin. your the best. this sweep picking really is hard up towards the low E. Also NeoClassicalFan shows more advanced sweep scales and licks.

  • I was going to like this video.. but it's kind of at 420.. and I want to keep it that way.

  • Great and useful videos......helped me a LOT!!!

  • Hey man, i love your videos.. ive been teaching myself how to play guitar for like a year now, and your videos have been a real cornerstone for my playing... i have a problem tho.. i really want to learn what i need to learn in the right order so i dont miss basics or anything, so do you have any suggestions in terms of which concepts of guitar i should learn first? my goal is to play like how you play in this video, to do sweep picking and solos and stuff...

  • lawl @ brbrbrbrrrr

  • Yay 4 years in and i can sweep better than you, Your'e just a better writer than me :)

  • im not an expert on sweep picking. but you can actually just hammer on and pull off all the notes going down. so basically your picking hand just goes downwards and not up. (im not sure if it makes sense) but yeah. it works for me and it sounds smoother.

i love the video. thanks justin!

  • thank you so much!

  • Good job making Telecasters look cool =P

And, you are honestly the only one here on the Tube that teaches me anything.

after you`re finished with your sentence i always make 100 percent sense of it and if I don`t, you catch up and say "remember to..." or "keep in mind..." and i get it. my point is that you cover every aspect of everything I need to learn and even something i don`t.

    You`re awesome.

  • @ieatcheez4breakfast telecaster, Fender Telecaster, referred to as the Tele, they're nice if you like sharp cool tones.

  • When does he say it weird? I don't hear anything wrong with how he says it.

  • Ok, take the piss out of me about my funny stutter thing why don't you!! ?? :)

I have no idea why i said it vari-asians like that, was pretty stupid, but I couldn't face re-recording the whole thing again cos I stuttered on a word...

You lot are so un-forgiving ;)

  • @JustinSandercoe ahh come on mate ITS YOUTUBE. *shudders* alot of MONSTERS..<.< lurk about *has an urge to start an argument cause he is infected with the youtube argument virus* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! thanks again mate its appreciated really

  • @JustinSandercoe Ignore the fools lol. Brilliant as usual.

  • @JustinSandercoe don't worry justin, they're just being douchy, you are still the best youtube teacher out there :)

  • @JustinSandercoe Justin what up with the one dollar bill in the wall?

btw love all your lessons ur one of the best teachers ive seen keep the lessons coming!!!

  • @JustinSandercoe Hi J, i am thinking about sending MercyStudios a message about the variations slur. I think this is unfair. I would like to see MercyStudios do a video on how to play very complicated guitar work and narrate at the same time. I think you are so wacky at the same time and really dig your caps dude. Is it possible you can do some videos playing in a vest so we can see the upper body shoulder and bicep movements. Do you have a video on how to tune a guitar. LONG LIVE POP

  • @SuperARandall Nice of you to be concerned, but I think Mercy is just taking the piss - which is fine - I take the piss out of other people too - in fact I would probably make fun of me for my mis-pronounciation too - so chill out and don't worry about it. I'm not! :)

  • @JustinSandercoe Hi Justin, as i said previously, i would inform you when MercyStudios and i resolved the misunderstanding. We have done that. We are also going to communicate on a daily basis with each other. I really want to put a lot of comittment into my friendship with MercyStudios, he sounds like a nice person, just like you, or JUST LIKE JUSTIN. This has a double meaning and maybe you can use it as a slogan. "Play"JUST LIKE JUSTIN" or "JUST LIKE JUSTIN" but we LOVE YOU. Justin is the best

  • @JustinSandercoe Hi justin, i hope the misunderstanding between me, mercystudios and yourself has been cleared up. If you can confirm that its all ok.

I met a girl last night and have penned some lyrics:-

When i saw you, it made me happy

    You are very very beautiful

I would like to watch Toy Story 3 with you.

Please let me know what you think before i show her the lyrics. I will get them copyrighted, do you know how i can do this.

Your the best Justin, i like you very much like a best friend

  • @SuperARandall Im so sorry J. I am your biggest fan. I feel i have made a fool out of myself. A lot of thought has gone into my comments. I spend hours every day taking information in from your videos and have noticed a vast improvement in my playing. For this reason, you are such an important person in my life, this is why i was upset at first when i saw the comment. But i will end this comment on a funny note:-

There are so many variations of vari-asians.

    Thanks J

  • @JustinSandercoe Hi Justin. I hope you are keeping well. I hope you are eating plenty of fruit and veg and drinking lots of water. Not too much beer though, hey, RockNRoll!!

I have just sent MercyStudios a message at my concern at his feelings due to my outburst. This will be resolved hopefully very soon and i have confirmed with MercyStudios that i will report back to you once we have sorted the situation out. I did make a joke about the word situation (situ-asian!!) Hope you like it.

    J 4EVER

  • @JustinSandercoe Don't mind them. Your lessons are awesome.

  • omg, vari-ASIANS XD? he didn't say it that way, it was just fine xD cmon

  • its youtube dear justin its youtube you are BOUND to find some political battlefields *infact found a few on your vids LOL* and some people whom instead of actually PRACTICING the awesome lessons you are teaching and giving a million thank you to you they start kidding about..words are not enough to thank you justin stay awesome

  • Poor justin finally had to bend to the force of the sweepers after it was requested that often. xD

Turned out quite nice though mate! :)

  • thank you sooo much. really really well explained

  • What do you use, settings and pedals to get that sound out of your tele?

  • shredshredshred

    buzz

  • IF any one wanna listen to a bad ass sweep solo from an awesome band, CHeck out selkies from between the buried and me's solo.

  • this guy looks like Andres Iniesta xD

  • hey justin

    nice videos.

I saw a video of yngvie teaching the same sort of thing.

but in his way of just doing it super fast and not explaining really at all.

he was doing lots of the same little mini sweep patterns and just moving them all over.

so, good stuff, man, you pack a lot of useful things into each of these lessons.

  • wow. one person out of 230. someone obviously has no common sense.

nice one justin, your lessons are always awesome :)

  • i hav a real urge to click dislike just to break the like chain.....but i cant.

  • Justin what is the meaning of JA, RO and so the names of lessons ?

  • Jinxed! ;O

  • Dude, you're actually awesome for doing all these lessons.

  • have been waiting a loooong time for this! It's quiet easy but takes a bit of practice to develop the speed. Thanks Justin for finally showing me how sweeping works! :)

  • 166 likes no dislikes.

    brilliant lesson Justin thanks

  • @lbluesey I wonder how many likes I can get up to before some dislikes it?

  • @JustinSandercoe I dont think the people who watch your videos will dislike this video anyway. 177 likes, 0 dislikes.

  • @JustinSandercoe let's not jinx it now or someone might actually fumble..

  • @JustinSandercoe 210 likes, 1 dislike :(

  • @bluepingu345 Ye, prob. just cause he sayd that:(

  • @JustinSandercoe Uh oh! Commentator's curse Justin m'boy! Neh mind, I've just 'liked' it. :-) Have introduced my nephew to your vids and made up a DVD with your YouTube vids. He's recently taken up guitar at school. Thanks again for making your stuff available to us all.

  • @JustinSandercoe

No one should - You are an unspoken hero... we always owe you big thank for these lessons. ... and so far 303 people have thanked you ! here's the 304th one... THANK YOU !

  • Comment removed

  • @JustinSandercoe I think you're asking one of those "FIRST!" assholes to do it.

  • @JustinSandercoe

Until somebody reads your comment and decides to be a douche lol.

Justin you are THE MAN. I've been learning guitar solely just off your videos.

  • @JustinSandercoe hey great tone...how do you get quite a fat tone from the fender??

  • @JustinSandercoe hey, its inevitable.. people dislike things JUST to dislike them. lol

  • Jusitn, I've sent to you 2 emails with question about translating videos - I want to translate a few but I didn't get any response from you. greetings, the_gullwing

  • @Lutherro sorry dude, I just been real busy with new lessons that I've not check the translations mailbox for a while - will get onto is very soon! Many thanks in advance.

  • @JustinSandercoe Damn dude you're not just an incredible guitar player, but a great teacher too!

  • Nice Justin :), was looking for some sweep picking tut's :D

  • thx a great deal! eventhough im discusted by long finger nails ;) (sorry bout that)

  • thats one hell of a telecaster

  • 1:47 No need to tell us which finger which fret which string ....I think it's much easier to play by ear !!!

  • @realjuvelive dude, this is for newbs lol

  • greets from mexico! ur'e lessons are really useful! are u going to gve private lessons again??

  • wow!!

  • when r u going to bring back private lessons :(

  • Thanks justin!

  • that was orgasmic @ 3:33..... (yes, I'm a female) ~haha -- but I did mean that in a completely musical-orgasmic-kinda-way (and that's my story & I'm sticking to it!) :D

  • thx for the video justin :D

  • Even Justin is practicing! we should too!!

  • Hi Justin, please apply the option to automatically create captions on all of Youtube videos. So I can apply the automatically captions translation of Youtube in my language. Thank you! His teaching is very good! Congratulations!

  • looks like you have some frsh strings there justin :)

  • are you using a jazz iii?

  • may i suggest a reason you didnt get into this very much.. probably because they're boring mind numbing and have no feeling or soul to them..

but still enjoying your other lessons. thanks for helping us all Justin.

  • @Drafter3 although i HEAVILY disagree with you sir depending on how they are used they can be *boring* *if they are over used and abused yes they will get boring or a wonderful tone refresher with a melodic intent just because its fast doesn't make it without soul or feeling if you listening to alex hutchings's feeling fine you will get what i mean..but then again sadly to MANY old people *soul* is just their own taste in music...if it does not match their taste it has *no soul*. peace

  • i thought it said mine sweeping lol

  • What guitar is that, If I may ask. I know it's a telecaster style, but there are a lot of different telecasters

  • @RockPwner It's a customised Tele. He gives the details in one of his videos. I think it has a Gibson mini humbucker on the neck, standard Tele middle and a seymor duncan stack on the bridge.

  • Love these little sweeps !!! Great lesson thank you !

  • ugg, practicing

  • justin you really do rock, keep it going man, your videos are awesome.

  • 0.10-0.14

    Oh hi Justin.

  • Real men play that deminished arpeggio with their pinky ;)

  • @baksteen123

    lol, thats what i thought

  • Great lesson Justin, but one thing's unclear to me: who are these Vari-Asians you mentioned?

  • @MercyStudios I am deeply upset at your slur on J (justin, but i call him J). I would not have noticed the pronounciation of variations. I think this is unfair, especially as J dedicates a lot of time and hard work AND dedication to his lessons. He has totally changed my life by his easy to understand how to play the guitar. I am also confident to use the word "dude" as a term of "my friend". I used to dislike the word "dude" but J (Justin) has given me this confidence. SEND HIM AN APOLOGY!!!NOW

  • @MercyStudios Thanks for your response. I am happy we are now friends. At first i got the wrong idea, but hopefully we have resloved this. I did confirm with Justin that i would advise him of when we resolved our indifferences and im sure he will only be more happy than us. I shall send him a message. Now we are friends i think its a good idea we communicate on a daily basis. We can swap guitar tips and keep in continual contact with Justin. He is my favorite person. He is always happy.

  • @MercyStudios HAHAHA i was thinkin bout that too.

  • @guitarsaiyan At first i took offence and seemed that MercyStudios was harsh with his comments. I have since contacted both Justin and MercyStudios and we have sorted our problems out. I find it funny now. I have also got some ideas:-

Situ-Asians, Communic-Asians, Cre-Asians, Motiv-Asians, Bus St-Asian, Ramific-Asians. I will try and think of more, in the meantime, you send me your ideas and we can submit hem to Justin as a collective project for his birthday

  • very helpful thanks

  • Your videos are the best. Thanks for all your hard work & sharing!!

  • hey justin, great guitar tone, but too basics on the sweep. =]
