I suppose if they are friendly enough to get caught and you can hold them to the line it would work. My cockatiel does it, but he'll seem to hypnotize himself by staring at lines on my wall or quilt and zones out.
It really is hypnotised. He follows the lines with hes eyes and for some reason the chicken gets confused. Like a brain error, so it just sits there doing nothing. Like a crashed computer.
I seriously doubt this is why it works, typically if the chickens see a snake they all go nuts trying to catch and eat it. Chickens are murder on snakes.
@DammitDrag No thats not it. You are focusing it's attention on it. Once you breaks its focus or its stared for long enough it will break out of its trance.
i think it might work for chooks because they think theve been caught and just give up, waiting to be killed. i think this cause they cant see infront of their beaks, where the line is. with my chooks i dont have to draw the line, i just push their head on the ground.
wait, how is it done? I have a barred rock rooster and hen and I'm itching to try it out since they're normally so fidgety, I doubt it'd work on them.
All you do is hold the chicken's head to the ground and draw a line fast, it doesn't always work but usually will. The dumber the chicken the better, Bigfoot was pretty dopey and good about being handled so he wasn't scared when we caught him.
I'm not sure why it works, but my pet cockatiel will hypnotize itself with lines on paper so I think it's just they are easily dazzled.

The chicken sees the line and thinks it's a snake and freezes.

I'm leaning toward stupid, haha. Some of the chickens won't do it, though, and just look insulted we picked them up.
My cockatiel does self hypnosis at times, with lines on the wall and also if there is a tiny amount of soda rocking in a bottle.
KillerChicken 2 years ago
that means they give in! or just mabye extra dopey compared to other chickens.. xD
