@jingwen07 The Euro NCAP crash result ratings and point score would suggest the VW Golf is the safer vehicle- it's the only reliable information we have access to, to compare vehicles in terms of safety. I personally am not saying this but to suggest otherwise with no hard facts and evidence is the actions of a moron.

@KoopaKabana so we are back to the ratings?Let me shed some light for you, EURO NCAP test car's safety purely without the factor of weight. I'm not going to say that you are wrong on the ratings, but you have to understand that golf will only achieve its 5 star rating when it is against a car of similar weight, but put in the factor of weight, and you have a different results.

The ratings are just reference to safety, they are no way accurate under the real world conditions. And please don't say the golf will fair better with its better ratings, this video is just to show you a comparison in a real world situation where weight is taken into account. So to correct you for the last time, a golf is very safe, safer than most small cars but not the xc60.

@KoopaKabana In the frontal impact, the golf scored well because the crash is to simulate a same vehicle heading the same speed. But it would be totally different in real world crashes. There's a video by ADAC which shows the Golf vs the XC90. Even the Golf is safer, the weight of the XC90 ( Bigger Vehicle) simply pushed the Golf away like a golf cart. No, i don't hate golf. But the idea is this, cars which are higher perform better in a crash.

Going by Euro NCAP results it would suggest the Golf is the safer vehicle. Check out similar crash test for Ford F-150 2009 or 2010 model, if you are looking for completely safe vehicles. They have rollover problems but so do SUVs.

Nothing compares to Ford F-150 2010 model in terms of safety. Wolsvagen Touareg 2010 is great too. Volvo XC 60 is goos but rated under WV Touareg.

it's true, one of the engineers in volvo safety designed the 3 point seat belt that you see in every single new car today.

You know, most cars do good enough in front impact collision. What defines a world class safe car in my opinion is also the side impact, and you don't see many cars do better than this Volvo.

@dsito2 that's completely NOT ACCURATE, just go and check "Volvo Cars" on wikipedia, it clearly states that VOLVO invented the 3-POINT SEAT BELTS in 1959 in the "SAFETY MILESTONES" section!! and you can see lots of VOLVO's safety achviements in automobile history. Then you can go check any german brand on wikipedia like MERCEDES, how come they don't have nothing like the "Safety Milestones" thing on those pages huh?

and they showed a movie about a guy that had traveled in a volvo,

It was January.

Slippery as hell,

and the skidded across the road at about 50-70 km/h.

Another car hit the passanger side traveling at 70-90 km/h

The guy passanger got some bruises and scrapes.

The model of volvo was a S80 i think

My first accident was in a 1990 Volvo 740: 100MPH+ into a tree, impact was on the driver's side of the grill. The car crushed to the rim, and deflected away from the tree. Car was then tossed around to do a 540 back into the same tree, impacting the B-pillar and deforming a mere 2 inches!

Two passengers. No injuries.

Another example?

Good friend ran a 95 T-5R into oncoming traffic. Impact F350 at 140MPH. Car rolled five times. Driver opened his own door.

Impact was left-center of hood, car did a 540 hitting the SAME tree again at the B-pillar. Interior appeared as if the car had never been wrecked, there was nothing left outside... at all... not a single panel undamaged, and the trunk was demolished. All positions easily survivable. I've owned nothing but Volvos since, naturally!!
