  • Anticipation is still exhilarating though

  • a good representation of affluenza, very deep tho

  • It shows how little is needed for a person to be truly happy and just how hard it is to get there.

  • creepy

  • Another great concept i liked at rudradesignbbsr channel

  • Really nice concept of life... thats what life is all about..chk out another wonderful concept i saw few days back...at rudradesignbbsr channel.

  • i hate u

  • This made me cry man... wow. Now I'm more sad than I always am.

  • An amazing aside at consumerism, beautifully done

  • "the happy life wins 9 oscars" lol

  • we should try to live our desires as we wish

  • cheerful little number ....

  • very heartbreaking

  • This film has a point

  • GOSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Hate this but rate 5/5 lol.

moral lesson of this story: JUST DO IT.

  • Just do what? Have a family? Marriage and kids aren't that great. 99% of all my friends are divorced and paying child support and alimony. I don't see anyone happy. If anything, they have regrets.

  • You have to decide for yourself what makes you happy and do it, don't let anything or anyone (or a washing machine add) tell you what will make you happy...

  • NIKE!

  • we all imazine sometime happiness in one or another way..really touching

  • I have a feeling this is going to be me in the future. This was really very touching, and very sad.

  • The giving birth part was strange... xD

  • sad but true

  • Very good messages.

  • this always makes me so sad!

  • sticky saliva much?

  • I love the music here, it would sound really great on a real celesta.

  • =( Nice, pero triste,saludo.-

  • where the babies come from lol

  • where they usually come from

  • When I think about how hard it is to take care of the house and the family... the cleaning, cooking, bathing, whining, crying, bills, etc., I then look at the smiling faces of my husband and two boys when all they want me to do is make them happy :) Nothing is worth more to me than that.

  • i love it! It is how this man spends his whole life lookking to buy happyness. But you cant buy happyness. Simple as that

  • That was rather devastating the first time I watched it. Just from the simple angle of dreaming and not doing. Lost time and regret.

I figure this simple interpretation of the video ought to be apparent to most any viewer... though this is YouTube, afterall... so usual expectations of 'thinking' are lowered.

Beyond the simple interpretation I listed above, there is certainly some possible commentary on society & media.

  • The society and media angle came to me first. Then what you said.... really love the ending.

  • work of art man! if only it were that simple.

  • This has been my featured video since I saw it. I love this video.

  • Touched.

  • :) uups

  • i dont get the end what was with all the pictures

  • he never did anything, he was only cutting out the pictures

  • Can you tell me where you got the inspiration to write something that made me cry?

  • Like most people I draw my inspiration from day-to-day life.

  • thats really cool, i am impressed!

  • i dont know anything of short films but a touching cartoon like that , damn!

  • sad... thats really sad actually..

  • fuck u blackskull. i think your the pussy here. because u take the time to laugh at people and think of something bad to say about them. Just stop and ask yourself why. Why do u do that? that was an amazing, AMAZING animation by the way.

  • I thought it was brilliant but sad.

The guy sees the ad, dreams about the happiness it could bring, and realizes that it's just an ad and will not being him happiness.

The lesson that is that too often people try to find happiness through things. Advertisements exploit this to sell products.

Real happiness comes from within not by the things you own.

  • real happiness can come from what you own you just have to really want it , insted of ads convincing you i.e. weed

  • I agree.

today people don't have time for themselfs.

and they have only materialistic world.

    where's the speculative, thoughtful world?

we lost it in the crule world of today.*

we just heap up things aroung ourself.*

  • I wish I could understand this =(

  • sad

  • superb!

  • Simply brilliant

  • okey

  • ok.

  • Aww... That's sad.

    :(

  • that sucks dude!

    i thought it would make me happy;

but when i saw the video,,im not happy at all.

  • Sorry about the irony...

I'm sure you'll be happy tomorrow!

  • amazing... simply amazing

  • Where's the music from???

  • The music was composed especially for this video by my friend Anthony Carney.

  • awesome man...v.e.r.y. inspiring. Thank you.

  • Still my Favorite...makes me wanna go out and do random things and talk to random people..I am going out to do that right now!! ^-^

  • Deep...

  • i agree wiv leveldevil

    yeah its heaps good :)

  • awe :)

  • i love this video :)

makes you wanna go and do stuff before its too late kinda thing

  • q pobre tio!!!(ToT) pero q es mas interesante es q han entrando mas q 2000 comentos por esta obra

  • Utterly depressing. Even considering the obvious unspoken comment on advertising.

  • That's one of the most moving things I've ever seen.

  • aw, so sad. poor little lonely man. very good video, though!

  • It was a sweet little movie, and quite moving at the end, really nicely put together (:

  • Motherfucker at the One minute Film & Sound Awards and at One Minute Belgian Open ¬_¬

  • but its just a wish, a dream...

  • ~this kaes me wish i was on a island alone

  • He wants to light his life and walks the whole world. He's surprised when his wife appears, but carries and holds her as a woman. His son get the dog the same way. He's happy throught all this. But he's only thinking, whishing that would have happened, and he's sad. He pastes this on a wall, the same as others, and end ends sad. This man is telling us to make reality the (good) images we are attracted to.

  • wat i dont get it HELP

  • Check out some other comments, you'll get tons of interpretations, however, if you get nothing out of it, that's OK as well...

  • You're shallow.

  • amazing what a Minute long video with no words can tell you

  • Next time I'll make an animation about a washing machine that washes clothes. That'll be interesting! Thanks for the advice.

  • thats a sad story but very good animation

  • wow.. that was really good

  • Sad.

  • That was depressing.

  • you can tell just what kind of life experience each person who has commented has had by their interpretation. to provoke something like that is real art.

  • My God this says so much in one minute. This character's a lonely dreamer, whatever he had that stopped him getting a family stopped him his whole life, and that teaches us a lot. Whatever reasons we have that stop us getting what's in our best interests and make us happy have got to be dealt with.

  • hola!!!!

    a todos!!! como estas!!!

    todo bien!!!

    bueno nos bemos!!!

  • man, its just really good

  • what are u guyz talking abt?

well watever i think this is one of my fav videos in youtube..::>

  • Corperate america is infecting our minds, and changing our way of living. Your life is manufactured to fit the specific code they have chosen.

Make your own path, dont let it infect you, create your own reality--control your life.

  • He wanted to stay away from the misery of having a wife and family. He achieved that. A great achievement!! He was truly happy. He knows, deep down, pictures are better than the conditional love he would exert over wife, kids and depend on their actions to make him happy. He spent his life making himself be a better person, helping others not just reproducing like most people do, increasing the overpopulation problem. This man was party of the solution=deep happiness.

  • go fuck your mom

  • spongebobedit91020: and since when you a**wipe? go fuck yourself, racist person!

  • lol nice interpretation

  • sad, stupid, silly, funny, fun, happy

  • that wuz kinda sad... and that's one BIG coin!!

  • He's sad because he's spent his entire life waiting for something else to happen. He never went to get something he wanted, he waited his entire life.

  • He imagined himself happy with a wife and family. How did he make himself a better person and help others? All he did throughout his life was collect photo's.

  • man the imaged posted at the end reminds me Bioshock >3!

  • thats sad

  • Great 5/5 good message

  • Kind Of Sad, Kind Of Gay

  • Qurva joooo :)

  • i don't get it

  • This saddens me. T_T

    It's so sad.

    Poor guy.

    But I loves it.

  • a reach around at :35

  • i like the irony that comes with the title "the happy life". great video, great message. very sad though.

  • i hope you are joking. cause that's a really sad view you have of life.

and i'm sure you know exactly that's not what the vid wants to "tell" us. :)

  • i think so too..

  • wat does the animation mean

  • i also agree it was wonderful. but is it suppose to have some kind of moral to it

  • oh, thats so sad, but wonderful at the same time. thank you.

  • wow that was amazing... i usually not into things like this... but this managed to interest me a great deal

  • sub4sub plz

  • heh sux to be him

  • Just Wonderful

  • It means whatever you want it to mean...Interesting interpretations I've read here already: "A stab at the advertising and marketing machine trying to persuade us to buy stuff we don't need by using false emotions and creating false needs." "An interpretation of the American Dream." "Don't waste your life dreaming about what you want but go out there and do it." "Family is the most important thing." "Family is not important, you're happier living on your own." "Work, buy, consume, die".

  • So, no use trying to figure out the "true meaning" or the intended meaning, just figure out what it means to you. If it means nothing to you, thats OK, if it does, that's OK as well... It is, what it is.

  • Then how did you choose the 'colors', 'backgrounds', 'settings'? ;)

  • Of course I did intend it to mean something :-) But I don't want to force my own intention on the viewers. If you get something different from it, that's fine by me. It makes it all the richer...

  • If you forced it you wouldn't have received the diverse reactions so I think that was brilliant.

  • Could I use it in class?

  • Of course. I'd be honored :)

  • i don wanna sound sad or anything but i do sometimes cut some newspaper adds about fathers and daughter u know like family pics stuff.. n jus kept imagining me spending time with my father at the park and all...but i don have one so yea i kinda know wat this vid means..n yea i reelylove this vid :>

  • the Babies' Birth scared me a bit D:

  • um...WTF...what am i suppose to say to this ???

  • I don't get it? :(

  • No, this is about a man who IS TRULY happy because he never wasted his time on a wife and kids and that family crap. He didn't gratify his desires, wants, loneliness with expectations placed on others. He had a truly happy life because he knew that it wasn't the job of others to make him happy and he could happily spend his life alone. Better than watching a marriage, family fall about through divorce, abuse and/or alcoholism.

  • I think it's supposed to be depressing, if he didn't care he wouldn't covet all of those pictures on his wall. He isn't living the "Happy Life" nor is he happy.

  • No he is not COVETING the pictures. It's just a cool hobby, like collecting comic books.

  • if only it were that easy..

  • It's about how people make happiness a commodity. They chase things they think will make them happy like the guy in the video chasing an ideal. That idea of happiness isn't his own so it has no meaning for him even though he believes it should. Happiness itself shouldn't be made into a goal. It's a way of being. Happiness is an experience which is all within you to feel. Things don't make people happy. People become happy by finding personal meaning and value, which aren't objects at all.

  • i liked that a lot

  • vajayjay

  • poor guy : (

  • Today the messages your average Westerner is bombarded with are not religious but commercial, and forever happy. Fast-food eaters, news anchors, text messengers, all smiling, smiling. Our magazines feature beaming celebrities and happy families in perfect homes. And since these messages have an agenda--to lure us to open our wallets to make the very idea of happiness seem unreliable.

  • true

  • Well... that was poignant. If you want things, you should get them. Tomorrows suck.

  • it's cute..

but way awkward when he kisses the lady and two kids pop out of her vajayjay...

  • That is very deep, its unfortunate many people here will never know what that clip was portraying. Very sad, but true to the lives of many, losing everything you once held dear, to time, and only having memories to reminisce in. Warm feelings and bittersweet after effect.

  • so, what makes you so sure that's what it's about? Maybe it's about a life spent expecting something, and to never let it happen, maybe it's about empty promises of materialism, or maybe it's about

  • Given, I can completely see it that way. Because each person can "Get" something different from this, even though there is an "original menaing." (like the song American Pie)

  • An Animated version of "The Secret" the movie.

  • so sad

  • Awesome, I think this is great! Greatz from sweden

  • Whats the music he used? I'm asking the viewers because I'm 99% that bertdombrecht won't answer me.

  • Why would you think that? :-)

The music on this animation was composed especially for this story by my good friend Anthony Carney.

  • Maybe he did answer you, he's a nice guy. But if you read the newspaper at the beginning, you will see there's a credit to The Amazing "Millhorn Trio", Bert's band.

  • Wow, I love this!

  • Everybody controls their own future (mainly..)

  • And our economy is stable (mainly.)

  • This is beautiful. And sad. 5 stars.

  • Not sad at all. This man had a perfect life. He avoided marrying and therefore projecting expectations on another and conditions on love. He was close to god, like a hermit monk and spent a majority of his sober time helping others.

  • righteous!

  • Fuck me. I don't care. Cause there are limits, man. Once the break, the grow bigger. The standards fall, man. So I'm saying... I'm gonna give it a try. Lots of tries, actually. I don't wanna be a fkn teacher, man. An I don't wanna be like this old man. I wanna live the way I want too. And this includes being a writer, making music, and making a pretty fkn good living out of it. Or else, let me fkn starve to death, mom.

I'm not a fkn teenager anymore. And it's a fact. Check the numbers.

  • Huh?

  • Did you actually read everything I wrote?

    Get a fkn life, man.

  • I read everything you wrote and was very confused by it.

Maybe you should learn to write before you become a writer?

    Just a suggestion.

  • Writing a comment can be very different than writing a story, man. Haha... thanks, however..

  • Ok. I know, I know. But I don't care.

So here's the thing. I'll end up hanging out with this old man, man. What do I do? Nothing. I'm trying to write stories, and trying to make music... sometimes. So, it helps me out... stand on my feet and everything. There are things I don't live to be who I am. And I'm a fkn sociopath sometimes (most times?). And I get a lot of shit about university.. like... "EXAMS. You won't have even to eat in a few years. And I don't say anything. And I'm thinking..

  • This is the kind of shorts you almost begin to cry at, and i did...

  • A foolish person seeks happiness in the distance; A wise man grows it under his feet.

  • And A**HOLES are full of Platitudes!

  • It is an animated version of "The Secret." $20.00 bills will start dropping on him any minute.

  • poor old man ^^

  • Lost hopes and dreams (sad)

  • happy? Sorry, I can't understand why?...it only makes me sad!

  • What a fucking downer!

  • Must be a Liberal Arts major. Your income is low and no woman wants you.

  • wow he has grown old while cutting the newspaper.

  • ... que dices tu de videos... y esto q mierda es??... hijo de puta

  • YOu all are rite, but this is too sad anyway!! :'(
