This film is amazing. The music fit it beautifully, but the story was what impressed me. Even with no sound or words besides the music, this film makes it's point with a sledgehammer. I think few of us realize how beautiful the world is.
Hmm, interesting... at 1:01 there is a guy in the fire station dressed similarly to the guy the hitman later runs into, he might just be a background character, but the motion he makes looks rather shady as if he is following him. Perhaps this is the guy who points the gun at him in the end...
Dude the end was beatifully crafted, it leaves you the feeling of why the innocent, and why do i consiter him innocent, and is he innocent? GREAT %5/5
great idea, i sadly can't give you more than 5stars, though it deserves a million and a price... i'm not lying if i'm saying this is now my top favorite brickfilm!
Oh... Then it could be this way: The Main guy was a hitman , he had to kill the guy with the moustache, he didn't so he was killed by his client... Thnx for info....
If uou watch closely at the beginning, you see the mustache guy in the photo on his desk. Obviously since the description describes him as a hit man, he had to kill him. I like your interpretation of his murderous client though... hope I helped a bit...
I've always loved this film. I watched it a few times on brickfilms a long time ago. It inspired me when I was first starting out on lego movies. Glad it's on youtube.
This made me cry. I am moved by this movie. It felt very realistic. Everything about this is perfect. How did you you make his eyebrows and eyes move though? Thank you for making this. 5/5
VERY SMOOTH AND REALISTIC! but how did u made it too smooth? also the girls playing in the spining thing there-is that stop motion or a video u just inserted? pls answer... thnks
I used StopMotionPro 4 with a miniDV camera. The software allows me to capture a frame from the camera on the computer.
I don't really use webcams, but the Quickcam 4000 is always recommended. I don't know if you can find it any more, though. Whichever webcam you get, make sure it has manual features (manual focus, manual iris, etc.).
Lol then he got suspended from copying things.. Copied animations from MattGillan too and well, I busted him. Hehe it was end of the cheater animator. :]
WOW, you, my friend are a master film maker, the seamingly brutal nature of a hitman, a hired killer, is told in this film, not as the steriotype, but recognises that everyone has emotion, that everone has grace and compation, even if their hands were stained by the sin of killing.
i am a big fan of stop motion especially with tegos.i heard about you in the wallstreet journal. please tell me what camera u used and what program you edited it on. was it on a mac or a pc? are u going to make another one? will people talk in the next one(if u make one)
Shot on a Canon ZR45 with an anamorphic adapter (which turned out to be a waste of money), frames captured with StopMotion Pro 4, edited in After Effects (PC, but OS doesn't matter).
Thanks for all the comments and conspiracy theories. I didn't expect the Wall Street Journal to begin the article with this film (thus placing it on the first page of the weekend edition), and I'm glad it's being seen by a new audience. Big thanks to Andrew LaVallee and his superb taste.
i swear this is the best stop motion i've ever seen besides calums claymation i heard it took over 3 quarters of a year to make any way keep em comin the way they move amazed me.
also read about it in the WSJ, had to say it's a damn good vid, always played legos as a kid, and wrote most of my creative writing pieces about characters like your protagonist... putting the 2 together? good stuff!
Really impressive, the walking looked a little weird and whatnot, but the expressions at the end and the faux time lapse photography in the background were both incredible.
did the guy get killed? (this from my 8-year-old son....yes, i let him watch your movie....it's lovely. i also read about it in the wsj. congratulations!)
Coincidence, I just read that article too. That film is fantastic, sad, yet brilliant. I tried stop animations of Lego, but they never came close to this.
Excellent work! I, too, read about this in the Wall Street Journal. I hope this turns out to be your big break, and I hope your professor gave you an A, even if you don't care what he/she thinks. I'm sure the process was painstaking. Good luck in the future.
Hi..I too read this in the WSJ (front page!). My wife and I really enjoyed this; very nice job. This reminds me of some of the short films my brother did with Fisher-Price toys and Super 8mm.
gah I keep commenting on this but it wont work , ok BEAUTIFUL animation props on the children in the park where you didn't miss a beat when the child is swinging and the others are on the spining thing you didn't like forget to move either (I always do) and then the song is just amazing. all in all 100/5
This is probably the 10th time I've watched this. Were I to summarize it in one word, I might say "beautiful".

Things I love about this film:
1. its smooth, loved the cupboard hitting the wall and bouncing back.
2. Even though lego people aren't very expressive you did it well.
3. the people and cars going extra fast at times while the protagonist was in a normal speed.
And I Disliked nothing.
