I don't know how to say it but every time I watch any PTA film it takes about twenty minutes and then i'm gone...I'm completely enveloped in the story the characters and the film. When I watched Magnolia for the first time I remember blinking and not remembering anything else around me except the masterpiece in front of me
I wouldnt say that, I mean theres plenty of BEATLES songs that are about drugs, "HEY JUDE" (HEROIN) and "COME TOGETHER" (COKE). Those drugs oviously inspired them to do those 2 great songs. But in most cases you're right, all the BEATLES were naturally talented.
I don't know about Come Together but Hey Jude is not about heroin, it's about Julian Lennon. Paul wrote it for him as John was leaving the family for Yoko.
If you listen to COME TOGETHER, it talks about a guy with "Joo Joo eye balls", "SHOOTN COCA COLA", "SIT IN HIS ARM CHAIR YOU CAN FEEL HIS DISEASE". HEY JUDE is probably about what you say it is, but there are plenty of referances you could link to HEROINE, oh and LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS (LSD).
@jokerboy1991 Come together was written by John Lennon for Timothy Leary's campaign for governor. And Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was based on a drawing that Lennon's daughter made. You don't know what you're talking about, so please, just stop.
Yeah, I think that the drugs just gave the Beatles the ability to forget about doing self-indulgent pop songs and do more creative things. Also, it's kind of a stretch to compare sound-making (Beatles) to movie-making (Anderson).
@LunaSeaSane Perception is relativistic. Considering what I've already experienced (and the bug powder was a joke) I'd say it's definitely worth my time and continued effort/discipline. Of course, the occasional hallucinogen does help tremendously. And no, I didn't shoot my own foot with that last statement. People who know what I'm talking about know what I'm talking about ;)
@Manwithcam Yes, David Bowie. I'm sure introspection under a state of euforia (what the religious call "ecstasy") must be exhillerating. But amidst all the amazement, euforia and oneness that I imagine would monumentally experienced, I'm sure it could also provide you with an intensified dilusion of absolute certainty. How many would even consider staying healthy, not abusing the process, allowing the body time to recover so you resume a normal life, in the process... that also counts.
@Manwithcam You sound (or read) interesting. And many thanks for bringing ideas to the table instead of the catfight trite that so often infests these comment slots.
I didnt care much for magnolia.Boogie nights was ok, but this movie is an instant classic! PTA is cool i really enjoy listenning to him even though he seems a bit baked in here lmao.Life is good,More power to him...

bungi98 that is really stupid. Whether drugs are involved shouldn't change your opinion of art made by an artist. Absurd. That is so fucking stupid.

This comment has received too many negative votes show

You're either creative or you're not. Drugs don't really affect that very much.

jokerboy-
Hey Jude was written by Mccartney about Lennon's son, Julian. It has nothing to do with heroin.
Furthermore, none of The Beatles did coke or heroin. They did some acid and a lot of weed but their drug use didn't really go beyond that.

Taking heroin or inhaling roach powder will not turn you into the new William Burroughs.
Getting involved in Crowleyism will not turn you into the new David Bowie.
Lesson learned?
Good. Now let's enjoy some talent.

@LunaSeaSane But inhaling bug powder while sitting on the Tree of Life is still fun.

I don't think he's still doing cocaine, though. He was much more wired doing press for Magnolia than he has been lately. Much more relaxed.
