  • god i miss variety tv

  • It's true. When I got the long play "Song For You" back in the 80 (used) I met this release. The introduction of the guitar is less ornate and Karen's voice, they note, is another recording. Are subtle differences but for those who follow in every detail her beautiful voice notice the difference.

  • Yes I;m 51 too and thank God I grew up in the 70s. RIP Karen.

  • @Annamandabella Thumbs up if I was the 88th person who thumbed up your comment.

  • @pukoy007 I'll listen to her until the day I die.

  • @pukoy007

Yes I sure am. After the death of Whitney and Davey we cannot help but remember the voice of Karen, one of the very best voices and songs of my time. It's from a happier and safer time in the worid. Our kids could play outside safely and we didn't have to lock our doors. Everyone was honest and believed in God. May this song brighten everyones heart and mind this year of the Dragon 2012 Amen.

  • She was such a good drummer, also. She was a perfectionist, perhaps her downfall personally. I still remember the day her death was announced. We didn't know that much about annorexia then. I wonder if we have progressed any further in that field.

She and Mama Csss Elliott had the purest of pure voices. It was like a perfect gem. No need for gimmics, no trills, no extras in the background.......I miss her.

  • i am sure that your love story is very beautiful, i am from Brazil and here we are very passionate for everything and the carpenters they song my lullabyes. Thank you for the video. So beautiful.

  • I'm young, I can never imagine how life was so good back then!

  • For some reason when I think of Karen Carpenter her signing reminds me of Judy Garland both were such soothing singers.

  • Fantastic; I dont think there`s In fact I know there`s No other singer In the world can match karen and her carpenters. Her voice is incredible. Not even any vibrato and thats the way it should be!!

  • One of a kind; still missed in 2012 . . .

  • What a premature end to a great voice, great singer and a great band.My generation grew up listening to those immortal songs. All those memories rushes in every time I hear these song.Karen wherever you are now may your soul rest in peace and tranquility.

  • @TheShaps100 better said than i could ever do. (is that even grammatical??)

  • No words needed....

  • Miki40322 Sorry for your loss of your grandma. She must have been a very special person, as was your grandpa. Our generation felt that there was only one God meant for each other. When one passes away, the other one still exists in sweet memories. Real, true love never dies. This song revives the memories each time it is heard.

  • God has a purpose for everything. Karen died when there was not a lot known about anorexia nervosa. Her going public with it and her death focused the medical community on how dangerous and prevalent it was. Only eternity will reveal how many young lives have been saved because of her. Yet, there are still so many out there who are still struggling with it. May it alert those around them to intervene and help. May God Bless.

  • karen ,like everyone on here knows has what i believe to be the most beautiful voice i have ever heard, each time i listen to her i get a very emotional feeling that no one else gives me, god must be enjoying this voice every day

  • I did not say that I heard this song in my early teen years, I just mean that when it came out, it described exactly how I felt back then. There were many love songs that came out during World War II, that make me nostalgic, but nothing that touched a chord like Top of The World when it came out. It is certainly sad that such a sweet voice was silenced too soon, but I am thankful that we have the recordings.

  • I love this song brings back memories when I was little and how I used to think how love and happiness used to be and now at times I wonder how so much is different in my eyes as I grow older and see all the pain in so many in this world.

  • @victoriamorris71 Amiga, "Top of the world" es un himno a la felicidad y al amor y cada vez que lo escucho o lo canto me reecuentra con esa ilusión intima justamente por el amor y la felicidad que no debemos dejar que muera, pese a la realidad a veces muy dura. Un abrazo y "Don´t worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear just "SING" sing a song

  • la encontré!!!<3

  • HR Puffin' Stuff!

  • well me @wee jan love the song BUT /she THINKS SHE CAN SING ===SHE CANNY SHIT

  • thumbs up to change the meme to 2012

  • nice song !

  • hehe yah,..Very nyc one :) :), Luv It

  • thumps up if you are watching this in 2012

  • This song does remind me of how I felt when I was first in love. I married my sweetheart and his love did just put me on top of the world. He died in April of last year, after 63 years of marriage. The popular songs of today hardly make anyone feel like they are on top of the world, more like the bottom! Thank you.

  • what a great voice

  • What a shame that she is not here with us today. What a talented singer!

  • I am a 14 year old boy and love this song definitely better than most songs nowadays, I wish I was born in these times.

  • I used to sing this all the time when I was a kid on karaoke and I've never heard it once until now xD It's just how I used to sing it when I was a kid...I just wish I heard this sooner though this is beautiful :')

  • tal vez la voz mas dulce que a dado la musica ,que placer era y es escucharlos ,karen cuanto nos privaste con tu ida tan joben.....

  • now this is singing none of that auto tune crap

  • #1 song the week I was born...

  • So sad that such a beautiful person with such great talent was allowed to become so so sick.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE

  • 1970's famous song, love the song , reminds me of my younger happy years--i was on my twenties............beautiful song

  • @zephyrss78 Good to find someone I can identify with...lol. Yes, this was THE song of the day. Pls help me out here. I have been trying to locate a version of this song performed by Skeeter D. and the "Three Fair Child" band, after her conversion to Christianity. I first heard it when they performed on one of their overseas tours together in 1975.

I hope someone can help. Thanx

  • a question for long time carpenter fans..no disrespect intended...would you call the carpenters basically a cover band?.. they did cover a bunch of songs like this one, please mr. postman, superstar etc.etc..and would that hurt a group from getting into the RRHOF- not that really means that much anymore due to its own politics.and favoritism. thanks to any and all that might respond..

  • i forgive u......

  • how could i forget this song my brother and i found out our mum died 1973 drove to the hospital listening to this

  • thinking of how/why she passed away is a shame!

if someone close to her, had just 'loved her for who she was', maybe she would not have felt she had to please from her outter appearance.

we has humans need to be more kinder to each other. things we say, do have profound affects on other peoples lives.

we truly lost a beautiful human being. . . inside, and out.

  • I sang this song in our 8th grade chorus in 1976! I still remember every word! Karen had such a beautiful voice. She died the year I was married. Very sad. :(

  • a beautiful voice, that is timeless.

  • A friend of mine told a story once where the school bully would listen to the Carpenters music & sit on his porch crying....once he found that out,the bully never picked on him ever again...Classic songs all of them.

  • 10 people suck shit.

  • Lol sounds like a Christmas song

  • nice music. One of my favorit Song!

  • Wonderful voice !

  • Pretty sad that a positive uplifting song like this couldn't be made today. We've lost some of our souls and have become too cynical and cold.

  • ....And the Top of the World is reached listening to such a beautiful music. Thanks for uploading. From a fesh eveing of the summer in Argentina!

  • she was so beautiful woman what a waste:(

  • Incredible that they had so many popular and unforgettable top hits. They''re my most favorite brother & sister musical act and I have a CD of all of their greatest hits. Who can ever forget them or their music, they were that great!

  • One of the best voice I ever heard. She up in heaven with the angles singing R.I.P. Karen.

  • sublime voice - magical harmonies = real music

  • Music has degenerated so much. Why oh why couldnt i been growin up at that time xD

  • I was 11 years old and at Scout Camp the first time I heard this song. I still love it and miss Karen's golden voice. Even decades later she brings joy to many!

  • The carpenters had given us all their gift of music & that gift will live on forever in all of us!!

  • Her brother once said that her voice was "a gift from Heaven". He was so right.

  • I am 88 years old and every time I hear Karen Carpenter sing this song, it takes me back to the time when I first fell in love with my husband. He is gone now, but I still get a thrill when I think of the sweet, special time of our lives that continued for more than 63 years. He did put me "on top of the world."

  • @iwouldbetrueful hai grandma..;)

  • @iwouldbetrueful Pardon my skepticism, but if this song reminds you of when you FIRST fell in love with your husband (63 years ago), then this must be 2035, as this song first came out in 1972. If I run 63 years back from 2011, I get 1948, when Richard was not quite two, and Karen not yet born. I'm assuming that this song reminds you of your husband later in your marriage (say 39 or 40 years ago).

  • @greenwich1754 She is probably saying the lyrics remind her of the feelings she had with her late husband.

  • @greenwich1754 If you read it again, she says "remind me of how I -felt- when I was first in love." - She's saying that, although this song was released much later, as you pointed out, the feeling and lyrics of the song remind her of when she fell in love.

  • @iwouldbetrueful That is wonderful.

  • @iwouldbetrueful WELL, YOU JUST BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO YOUR GENERATION.I'M 50 AND HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR 30 OF THOSE YEARS. THESE SONGS BRING MEMORIES OF WHEN I WAS A KID AND WATCHING MY PARENTS HUG OR CUDDLE. THEIR BOTH GONE WAY TOO EARLY IN LIFE BUT THEY WERE MARRIED TIL THE END TO. TEAM WORK I GUESS. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD TAKE CARE

  • @BILLYJOE957 And I am proud to belong to your kind. I am sixty and married for 30 years. I will not let my wife go for even Angelina Jolie or Marylin Manroe. My wife is the best that was every born

  • @BILLYJOE957 You brought a chill down my spine. You and i sound exactly alike.

  • @iwouldbetrueful. That is so very sweet :). Karen Carpenter one of the best female voices everr

  • @iwouldbetrueful Beautiful. Im sorry for your loss

  • @iwouldbetrueful thats beautiful and awesome

  • @iwouldbetrueful At first, sorry English isn't my language so it might be impolite. Sorry for your loss.

My grandma has passed away last month. Her husband, my grandpa, has gone 30 years ago. My grandma visited my grandpa's grave everyday. She never forget him and I believe that my grandpa never forget her. I hope they are together now in the heaven.

I'm really proud of being their grand child because my grandma showed me real love.

  • @iwouldbetrueful Well, What can one say except true love never dies. I am 60 and had been married for 30 years and my wife is the best thing that happened to me. Pity our breed is fast dying out. May you live to a hundred

  • the song reminds me of my old days in med college.Nostalgia returns but how....!! Karen had a unparalalled cool magic in her voice..having a calming soothing and lingering feel to it.

  • Please explain to me why I break down in tears whenever I hear one of their songs?

  • my mom would always play the Carpenters and ABBA in the car when i was younger. i hated it..but now im so glad she did. =] this is music!!!

  • My Father use to sing this song for me when i was little..

  • Its sad to watch these videos of her. She looks so thin and sickly. Wish she got some help before it too late..she was so talented.

  • I grew up listening to her music. Takes me oh way back....

  • it is my favourtie song i remember this song an wen i hear it it brings me bck too my early teen yrs it was so sad she pass away she had a very Angel voice RIP Karen

  • I was 11 years old when this song was hit the radio. It was a huge hit. I can remember what I was doing when I would hear their songs. Snapshots in my memory from my youth.

  • Karen Carpenter's voice is so captivating.

  • hats off to u

  • 10 people are on the bottom of the world

  • @1alabamajack No, more like 10 people know how selfish she was by taking her life through anorexia.

  • thumbs up if u are watching in 2011

  • @111Akanksha I feel like such a rebel... it's 2012!!!

  • @misssavannahmarie1... it's too bad more people don't realize this. She did have the voice of an angel, thank goodness we still have her recordings to enjoy... she can still enrich our lives. :)

  • Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice it makes me cry.

  • Karen Carpenter, ACDC, Michael Jackson...and nowaday some creeps dressed like monsters yelling out all those emotionless words with totally no technique at all.

Oh dear lord where did American music go :(

  • what a voice

  • I love this song...

  • I was in Glee Club back in 1978 and we sang this song. I loved it then and still love it.

  • oh karen what did you do yourself?

  • He disfrutado y disfruto de las canciones de esta maravillosa mujer llamada Karen. ¡Que voz!!

  • i was born right after she died 1983!

  • u really don't want my opinion,u might not like what I have deducted

  • I remember sitting on a pile of straw in the woods singing this song when I was 5. Poor Karen Carpenter, she thought she was so fat.

  • beautiful!!! so beatiful song!!

    i love love Karen

  • I love this song so much man!!! Long live the 70s!!

  • I miss those days

  • i am touched by this song

  • 9 people are not at the top of the world

  • Unbelievable girl

  • Dear karen, I wish you knew how truley beutifull you were, how talented you were and how you have touched the lives of many, including this 16 year old girl writing this. you were so special there will never be anyone as special as you. you dont have to be barbie doll thin to be beutifull, beuty comes in every shape and size you are as beutifull and talented as they come and i wish you were here today, but heaven got a beutifull talented angle.

  • @misssavannahmarie1 Maybe you should research how she died before you testify to everyone how you love an anorexic singer. Yea...I absolutely love her voice too but she basically killed herself. Go ahead and hate on me for telling you the truth.

  • @misssavannahmarie1 I cant take you seriously with your name and your spellings >__<, despite it being moving and all

  • @misssavannahmarie1 Luckily not every sixteen year old today is mest up and lost. Heaven smiled upon your comment:)

  • @misssavannahmarie1 Very well put my dear. Karen was the best...the best...female singer ever in popular music. She was THE best EVER. Your sentiment is shared by many but not as well put as you do.

  • My love, you deserve that spot more than anyone else! I love you, don´t forget it!

    with love

    Rouge
