Yes. I absolutely love killing people. It brings such joy and satisfaction to my heart, slaughtering living, breathing, conscious beings exactly like me in all but personal experience, especially knowing that if we want peace, we must achieve it peacefully, as violence only incurs itself.
the most important application of this tech is that it will enable ever fewer people to control ever greater populations. those interests with the most $ will have more power than those with more votes.
any tech that impacts the ability to wage war also has impacts on economy, culture, and of course, politics.
The fact that we don't buy war bonds any more is the reason why we're in the shit. The money has got to come from somewhere and its the money men who pay for it, meaning its them who are in charge really. And i don't want them in charge of that kind of power. Look at the world at the moment. A few leaders and a world of shit.
It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.
When mankind addresses the issue of "Why" to the war machine, many may find that 500 years of Colonialism is quite alive and uses technology to rape the resources of the world and it's indigenous peoples to feed it's obscene materialism.
Technology replaces the heart, but it also stabs it to death with bullets.

Better yet, lets make better germs - US is good at that - shamed the Germans attempts at eugenics. I also recall there are some nanos that can take out the motherboards - hahahaha - build a eletcronic warefare and soem one will make a virus - take that robotic!
So, all, we can do is upgrade for war? hhmm, - it seems someone has it in for human and we may just accelerate our own demise. Why not just end it now and make a profecient nuclear warhead. With all this tack of high tech - I'd rather just drop a few nukes and see if you tech can survive that. If I recall correctly, magentics pretty much override your technology. Imagine a nuclear blast. At 4:02, sure lets blame the Germans.
Wake up people! After these things have been tested on a foreign country and the actual soldier robots get introduced, who the hell do you think our socialist government is going to turn these things on. People control, weapons control, riots then martial law. American soldiers will not turn on the very people they are there to protect. Take the human aspect away from a soldier and BAM. Get prepared! If you don't think it's coming your either stupid or you just don't care. Get the big picture.
I believe the only time the WHOLE world will truly bond together is when there are outside influences not from earth (if they exist). Remember WWII? That was the greatest time humankind bonded together to fight true evil. I believe true bonding only happens through disaster. That is just humankind. Sorry to mention this as it is disrespectful, but 9/11. After that, the whole US bonded together like they never did before. Its a sad truth.
Video clips on the video are sickening. But it's typical of war mongering Americans using robot development and research to organize killing.
What about making something like the Honda Asimo from Japan? I never saw that robot picking up a gun, oh wait won’t be too long when war mongering countries get a hold of it!
War doesn't exist to support governments, war exists because there is evil in the world. World peace will never be possible until evil is destroyed and how do we rid the world of evil without war. And don't say "Love" because that's a cop out answer. Osama and his people hate us because of who we are and the freedoms we have. Mailing him flowers with a sweet card wouldn't have done a thing.
@ChazeQ Well said. Glad to see I am not the only person who thinks that way. Sometimes I suspect I might be mad for standing against what seems so good at face value.
@Cajaqu Let me retract my absurd comment. Conflict can drive creation but conflict is not the only source of creation. Where is the conflict of the pollinating flower, the inception of the zygote, the development of the automobile, pottery, writing, language, light bulb, etc. My point is creation can exist outside the bounds of conflict through means of imagination and compassion driven ingenuity and intellect.
@TooChill I will disagree with most of what you said as I still see war as the primary driving force behind creation and technology, but I will agree with you that we are approaching an end of war for sure. Wars through history have been brutal, full of rape, slaughter, pillaging, no rules or reason, just barbarism. Slowly, war has become more civil: it may not seem it but we have rules of engagement, military tech focuses on limiting civilian casualties. You can't rush evolution, though (cont)
@TooChill ...and for the time being, it is still going to be the primary source for creation. Robotics, medicine, food production, food preservation, energy production, all things that war creates an immediate and desperate need for. Nothing compare and creativity is simple too fickle and unreliable in times of peace. It is too slow and time really isn't a luxury we have. As far as the big bang, my point was that as members of a chaotic and violent universe, we are beings of violent chaos.(cont)
@TooChill I would say we act with extraordinarily uncharacteristic amounts of order and peace, considering every atom of our body is made up of the detritus of dead stars and explosive cosmic chemical reactions. The fact that we are as civil as we are is quite a miracle, if you buy into that sort of thing.
I have to say, after watching countless TED talks.. I found this to be far more disturbing, than anything i've watched recently. absolutely and utterly disgusting. I'm not arguing the fact that technology in war saves lives... but if you keep creating these technologies, then the need for war persists as a means to make money, instead of resolving the situation..which in most cases was instigated by the companies whose interests lie in profiting from war in the first place
It is highly disconcerting that some people are finding entertainmnt value in robotic war as well as profit. Is P.W. Singer enjoying this? This sounds stupid but the solution is robots shooting robots, not robots shooting people. It's better to waste money than lives. We are not cruel, coldhearted and cowardly for sending machines to war instead of people. The news editor mentioned obviously likes reporting bloodshed and chaos!
I especially salute all those in uniform. In my opinion far too many citizens take this country, and those who serve for granted. God bless the United States of America.
@Herbymac0811 while watching this and reading theses comments I had the exact same thought. People can talk about world peace but there has NEVER been peace in the world. I hope mankind can someday achieve a Star Trek like utopia. It's interesting to note however that even in such an optimistic utopian society, Starfleet itself is armed to the teeth. IMO Force will ALWAYS remain an option and as such it will always pay to have the bigger gun. Like anything involving people there will be flaws
Weapons will alway's change and get better , or worse depending on how you look at it . Robots are great for getting man somewhat out of harms way . But for all the tech you cant win a war with out putting a man on the ground with a rifle . You dont own a peace of ground unless you put a rifle company on it ! I fought in Iraq and war sucks ! But it's here to stay . As long as you have man, you will have war . Tech is great but some times you just have to men on the ground !
man completely fails at advancing himself morally and intelligently. man repeats the cycle of self-gratification (instinct) without really reaching a higher degree of enlightment and respect for their fellow human. thus, the advancement of man crawls insipidly along while the advancement of technology and weaponry increases at a geometric pace,,,,,making it easier and more efficient to find and wipeout our fellow man.
As long as there are 'haves' and 'have-nots' there will be war. As long as people don't have equal oppurtunities there will be war... Loving is one thing, but giving up your advantaged position in this world seems to be a whole other story... sadly.
Sorry, guys. I like peace 'n' all, but I kind of want to see massive gun-equipped robot dogs patrolling city streets to keep order. Deep down, you want that too.
Why is America so paranoid about wanting to be ahead with all the war toys and killing machines and being the most efficient killers.
They havent done anything wrong have they yes? no? maybe?. I think that we need a country that shows real leadership in bringing peace to the planet not a mob of control freaks. The world has woken up apparently you should have left all the drugs in place that would have kept them asleep.
@32ndegree I see what you're saying, but it all goes back to Roosevelt's quote: "Walk softly, but carry a big stick." Superior fire power is what has kept us from not having to worry as much about countries like Iran, Pakistan, Cuba, Russia, etc. It was the fact that we had nukes before anyone else that led to the end of WWII. Superior firepower is the reason that at the beginning of Reagan's term, 52 U.S. hostages that had been held by Iran for the last 444 days were released.
@32ndegree Again I get what you're saying about peace being the way to go, but you can't lead by example with some people. It's the mentality under which they were raised. To make an example, look at the cop vs the security guard. One has a taser, a firearm, a nightstick, and the ability to throw you in jail. One has the ability to tell you to leave the premises and isn't allowed to put his hands on you. We constantly see mall cops being fucked with relentlessly lol. But who fucks with cops?
World peace is not loving people to death, it's just waiting until people chill out and then everyone Can just destroy their weapons and designs. If noone has weapons there will be no war and therefor peace! The only flaw us that the market price oh a standard AK-47 is $15 meaning a kid in terrorist dominated countries can take his weakly allowane and go buy an assault rifle with a large bag of fries, it's sick!
@Piemente removing current weapons wont stop conflict, people are quick to forget that before we had gun we used swords, and before swords we used sticks and stones
All of you people asking for peace, U.S. to stop attacking, etc... you're all dumbasses. World peace is impossible because some fruitcake seems to get the power somewhere. Always. The enemy leader is the fruitcake, not U.S. Without the war, you'd probably be suicide bombed tomorrow by Jamal Akbar. You dumbasses are lucky you live in a safe country like U.S. The war tech today isn't self-aware and computing robots. That just follow orders from their controller. More drones = less lives taken.
War is a scary example of Goodhart's law. The original purpose of war was to put the enemy leader out of power or capture territory or resources. And then it became "kill as many enemies as possible" which is now "find the most efficient way to kill ALL the enemies without sacrificing any of ours."
@Houshalter That's because you have to kill enemies to get to the leader, dumbass, and keeping your men alive might help a little with that, don't you think?
well I suppose we have electrical reproductivity to add to the mix now so, yet another layer. oh btw so I heard mentioned. USA's yearly military spend equals almost exactly the total yearly take in corporate tax. clearly that would HAVE to be merely a coincidence. if true of course. hmmm well maybe Neuro Marketing will save us from ourselves now. ?
for all the people that say war is profitable, i would like to see all the spreadsheets that show how using 10,000 50.cal rounds at $1.50 a pop to flush insurgents out of a building profitable...? how about engaging the enemy at 3km with LMG's... that isnt cheap either.....all the extra expense is to keep the troops safe, war doesn't make money, it spends it!
@biggarlo are you really that naive? if you're one of the hundreds of companies the US government spends over half its "defense" budget on then you'd know how much money it makes.
not to mention exxon mobil and other oil companies now getting contracts in Iraq....
@valibal calm down son, if you would realise, the US doesn't get to keep that money, wealth is with the government, not with companies that spend more then half of their own budget buying parts and expertise from overseas, name a few few purely american owned defense subcontractors that arnt Ronnie Barret,LRADor browning, i can vouch for the money they spend on armored personnel carriers, because we make a vast majority of them (Australia) a proud and trustworthy partner, but we get paid :D
@biggarlo you are right that war is generally not profitable for a government like we have in the US. However, it is very profitable for the private sector. For example, in WWII, IBM sold technology to Nazi Germany--machines that were used to make the lists of working and dead Jews in the concentration camps. Companies do not stop selling because of war; instead, they sell more. The war on terror has been very profitable for oil and tech companies.
@ally581 couldn't agree more, i was just making a point that once we get to drop a hellfire or jdam through osama's front door we aren't about to find another 100billion in treasure magically in the kitty, that being said im sure there are incentives from browning, IBM, and Microsoft for instance
@biggarlo oh okay, sorry, misunderstood what you were saying. yeah, you are totally right. i think that some people (esp. those in power) tend to treat war like a game of monopoly, except with guns. they dont realize that these "games" cost money and sadly, human lives. i guess they think that the american people are a-okay with paying for everything. its gonna suck for them when people actually stand up against shady bureaucracy
@ally581 Ever think, for 1 second in your conspiracy filled-head, that the war is meant to save human lives? That's what WAR is. To save humans, and destroy the ones that want to kill them. It all starts out with 1 side going crazy. The objective of war is to destroy all enemy forces so that your citizens and go on with their happy lives. Yes, there's profit in war. No, we wouldn't declare WW3 for profit.
The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction: Mankind, which in Homers time was an object of contemplation for the Olympian gods, now is one for itself. Its self-alienation has reached such a degree that it can experience its own destruction as an aesthetic pleasure of the first order. This is the situation of politics which Fascism renders, aesthetic.
@TheMvuser how about those of a free democratic society who would be aesthetically fascist, if destruction is not their goal, would not another reproduction of mankind's mechanical art, be the aesthetic birth of our destruction, by which, time would see no end, nor the gods of Olympus see the bounds of their mistakes.
and just think about the fact that you dont have to worry about a robot having a moral breakdown when the leaders of the world tell it to kill its own people
all they care about is making they pockets bigger there not the ones losing there lifes or family to the shit they start so i say down with are govermant lets start anew
and exactly against who is the USA planning to go to war? i mean, the sham with al quaeda and bin laden is over; its evident they let them sprout just so that they would have an "enemy", and that way their budget would be justified;
its a globalized world, and all this high tech weaponry is pointless; the united states could already crush most potential enemies with what they have now; hell, they have freaking nukes, what are they so worried about
@hpdutube Don't be another bitter manhater spreading ignorance and hate. It can just as easily argued that women inspire and even demand men to be powerful and buy them pretty things.
@ogskeetdizzle and just what is money? if you really think that it's that simple, no wonder your citizens allowed your government to keep invading the world.
yay lets make robots for war, FUCKIN STUPID CUNTS.... stop the war, idiots, stop fighting all together lol, but oh no they are gonna nuke us all if we do that right ??? lol wmd's my ass... isreal has all the fuckin wmd's jimmy carter admitted that a couple years ago.
I think I have to vomit after this callous business war talk. No wonder the Penatgon budget was not cut, these armament companies want their tech stuff to be tried out and they dont want others to cut into their business. Wars are fought to sell weapons. Sickening!
@bookwoman298 The Military industrial complex is what fundamentally informs efficient business practices otherwise known as the (high technology sector). it is taken as the fountain head of innovation. This is what He means by the Q "is it US who are wired for War" creativity made slave to destruction and then sold back to us as entertainment.
@bookwoman298 That maybe so.... I don't remember if it was Kennedy (Past USA president) or Aristotle (Ancient philosopher from Greece) that said this "In order to prepare for peace we must prepare for war." I believe this to be true, just look at history.
@Rosumny00 Sadistic non-sense used to justify never ending war. The thing about that quote is that it's conveniently self-serving. The reason why history fits the bill is precisely because people keep thinking this way. Nations that have decided to let go of their armed forces have never been under any threat. Nations that always stayed neutral also testify to the same thing.
@ForgotMyName3 Actually that is incorrect. In WW11 countries that were neutral in WW1 where attacked and put under German occupation. Obviously there was little to no resistance for the Germans and it was easy resources for them. You are never safe.
@nraywood QUOTE.. Am i hearing things or did i just hear him mention a jihadi website which allows you to remote detonate an IED from your own computer 05.25 in ...
Belief systems do not case wars, secret societies do, and the secret societies, such as the freemasons and illuminati, control the major religions. O, and Catholocism and Christianity are totally different. You might say the three major religions are Catholocism, Jewdaism, and Islam. There are not vey many real Chrisitans, as Protestants are just decentralized Catholics, in that they are decentralized from Rome in there beliefs...however, they still follow Rome's Sunday and not the Sabbath.
World peace is entirely possible. If only people would realize that there are more of us than them. The governments don't want peace because war and conflict equals profit. If the people said, "No more" and really meant it...it would end. The powers that be are afraid of us, show them that we're not afraid of them. Not with violence, but with love. Al Gore made global warming a popular issue and now everything is going green. What could you do with an abundance of love ?
@aeon23 Yeah, I understand it. *shakes head*. But it still makes NO FUCKING SENSE, logic-wise. aeon23: world peace is impossible. Let's try and ~LOVE the enemies to death and spread ~LOVE everywhere! lol yayz!" WTF are you talking about?! Maybe love can get you and your gf back together, but not terrorists to stop terrorism. Projected my thoughts on what you said? Oh, forgive me for using the reply button the RIGHT way. Just quit trying.
@MokomaSusi because not everyone agrees with you thats completley inefective You can't just say "I will not fight back back " and expect them to do the same. There are some violent people by nature and they will kill you and your family if they can.You cant actualy expect people who barly eat to not try and take food from someone who has it.
@aeon23 World peace would stagnate our technological advancement and ultimately destroy us. War is as natural as birds in flight and fish swimming - it has been with us since the very beginning, when humanity moved away from the comforts of ancient Africa and came to realize how dangerous and brutal our planet really was. Like mother like children. I would be dead if not for the advancements brought about by war and conflict and will stand against the tyranny of World Peace to my last breath.
@Cajaquarius That's the most outrageous thing I've ever heard. It's true a lot of our technological advancements have been done through the interest of military development but not all. Military conquest is a by product of dominating consciousness, put forth by people who seek to control. Only a very few truly profit from war. This is not the only state of being. War is not necessary for the advancement of technology. War is not natural. It is human. We are the only species to make war
@TooChill You keep saying that creation exists outside of the bounds of conflict and violence and now I would ask you to state examples. The universe began with the big bang, an explosion powerful enough to send debris light years away from a central point. Plants grow in soil of that which is made up of the remnants of death - rot and feces. Compare the technology of the most peaceful to the most bloodthirsty, imperial nations. Shut off your emotions and consider: is it really so outrageous?
@Cajaquarius I'm not sure how you equate the big bang, the natural degradation of plants or predatory instincts for survival with the notion that disease, famine, warfare and ultimately human suffering contribute to the benefit of humanitarian aid. It's true great technological inventions have been reared in the interest of military endeavors.War has been a part of our species since the dawn of civilization. But I believe that we're coming to a point where it is no longer necessary for the...

It makes no difference what men think of war, said the judge. War endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.

Technology replaces the heart, but it also stabs it to death with bullets.

Conflict drives creation.
ChazeQ 1 year ago
@ChazeQ Well said. Glad to see I am not the only person who thinks that way. Sometimes I suspect I might be mad for standing against what seems so good at face value.
Cajaquarius 1 year ago
@Cajaqu Let me retract my absurd comment. Conflict can drive creation but conflict is not the only source of creation. Where is the conflict of the pollinating flower, the inception of the zygote, the development of the automobile, pottery, writing, language, light bulb, etc. My point is creation can exist outside the bounds of conflict through means of imagination and compassion driven ingenuity and intellect.
TooChill 1 year ago
@TooChill I will disagree with most of what you said as I still see war as the primary driving force behind creation and technology, but I will agree with you that we are approaching an end of war for sure. Wars through history have been brutal, full of rape, slaughter, pillaging, no rules or reason, just barbarism. Slowly, war has become more civil: it may not seem it but we have rules of engagement, military tech focuses on limiting civilian casualties. You can't rush evolution, though (cont)
Cajaquarius 1 year ago
@TooChill ...and for the time being, it is still going to be the primary source for creation. Robotics, medicine, food production, food preservation, energy production, all things that war creates an immediate and desperate need for. Nothing compare and creativity is simple too fickle and unreliable in times of peace. It is too slow and time really isn't a luxury we have. As far as the big bang, my point was that as members of a chaotic and violent universe, we are beings of violent chaos.(cont)
Cajaquarius 1 year ago
@TooChill I would say we act with extraordinarily uncharacteristic amounts of order and peace, considering every atom of our body is made up of the detritus of dead stars and explosive cosmic chemical reactions. The fact that we are as civil as we are is quite a miracle, if you buy into that sort of thing.

TooChill 1 year ago
I have to say, after watching countless TED talks.. I found this to be far more disturbing, than anything i've watched recently. absolutely and utterly disgusting. I'm not arguing the fact that technology in war saves lives... but if you keep creating these technologies, then the need for war persists as a means to make money, instead of resolving the situation..which in most cases was instigated by the companies whose interests lie in profiting from war in the first place
reshad1 1 year ago
It is highly disconcerting that some people are finding entertainmnt value in robotic war as well as profit. Is P.W. Singer enjoying this? This sounds stupid but the solution is robots shooting robots, not robots shooting people. It's better to waste money than lives. We are not cruel, coldhearted and cowardly for sending machines to war instead of people. The news editor mentioned obviously likes reporting bloodshed and chaos!

32ndegree 1 year ago
@32ndegree I see what you're saying, but it all goes back to Roosevelt's quote: "Walk softly, but carry a big stick." Superior fire power is what has kept us from not having to worry as much about countries like Iran, Pakistan, Cuba, Russia, etc. It was the fact that we had nukes before anyone else that led to the end of WWII. Superior firepower is the reason that at the beginning of Reagan's term, 52 U.S. hostages that had been held by Iran for the last 444 days were released.
reticentjester 1 year ago
@32ndegree Again I get what you're saying about peace being the way to go, but you can't lead by example with some people. It's the mentality under which they were raised. To make an example, look at the cop vs the security guard. One has a taser, a firearm, a nightstick, and the ability to throw you in jail. One has the ability to tell you to leave the premises and isn't allowed to put his hands on you. We constantly see mall cops being fucked with relentlessly lol. But who fucks with cops?

All of you people asking for peace, U.S. to stop attacking, etc... you're all dumbasses. World peace is impossible because some fruitcake seems to get the power somewhere. Always. The enemy leader is the fruitcake, not U.S. Without the war, you'd probably be suicide bombed tomorrow by Jamal Akbar. You dumbasses are lucky you live in a safe country like U.S. The war tech today isn't self-aware and computing robots. That just follow orders from their controller. More drones = less lives taken.

biggarlo 1 year ago
@biggarlo are you really that naive? if you're one of the hundreds of companies the US government spends over half its "defense" budget on then you'd know how much money it makes.
not to mention exxon mobil and other oil companies now getting contracts in Iraq....
.wake up.
valibal 1 year ago
@valibal calm down son, if you would realise, the US doesn't get to keep that money, wealth is with the government, not with companies that spend more then half of their own budget buying parts and expertise from overseas, name a few few purely american owned defense subcontractors that arnt Ronnie Barret,LRADor browning, i can vouch for the money they spend on armored personnel carriers, because we make a vast majority of them (Australia) a proud and trustworthy partner, but we get paid :D
biggarlo 1 year ago
@biggarlo you are right that war is generally not profitable for a government like we have in the US. However, it is very profitable for the private sector. For example, in WWII, IBM sold technology to Nazi Germany--machines that were used to make the lists of working and dead Jews in the concentration camps. Companies do not stop selling because of war; instead, they sell more. The war on terror has been very profitable for oil and tech companies.
ally581 1 year ago
@ally581 couldn't agree more, i was just making a point that once we get to drop a hellfire or jdam through osama's front door we aren't about to find another 100billion in treasure magically in the kitty, that being said im sure there are incentives from browning, IBM, and Microsoft for instance
biggarlo 1 year ago
@biggarlo oh okay, sorry, misunderstood what you were saying. yeah, you are totally right. i think that some people (esp. those in power) tend to treat war like a game of monopoly, except with guns. they dont realize that these "games" cost money and sadly, human lives. i guess they think that the american people are a-okay with paying for everything. its gonna suck for them when people actually stand up against shady bureaucracy
ally581 1 year ago

This is the situation of politics which Fascism renders, aesthetic.

Nations that always stayed neutral also testify to the same thing.

@aeon23 World peace would stagnate our technological advancement and ultimately destroy us. Like mother like children. I would be dead if not for the advancements brought about by war and conflict and will stand against the tyranny of World Peace to my last breath.
Cajaquarius 1 year ago
@Cajaquarius That's the most outrageous thing I've ever heard. It's true a lot of our technological advancements have been done through the interest of military development but not all. Military conquest is a by product of dominating consciousness, put forth by people who seek to control. Only a very few truly profit from war. This is not the only state of being. War is not necessary for the advancement of technology. War is not natural. It is human. We are the only species to make war
