Sounds fairly good, I've always had a soft spot for synth laden tunes! I do much prefer the Peter Howell version from the earlier eighties! that was still synth but I preferred the sound (for me that was the definitive version)
@JASpiring Indeed :) sad though, the arranger (Dominic Glynn) appeared to be trying to take it a world away from Peter Howell's crashy and percussive version to something darker. IMHO it worked well, although both versions are hard to improve upon (and Keff McCulloch failed miserably)
i think the old ones were the best theme the new ones suck ass!!!! i have the hole theme in a video on my channel of this one and and aslo for people wondering this is the theme that colin used after peter he used peters theme then changed it to this lol
ive now come to a conclusion insted of just likeing the 4th, 5th ,6th, and 10th, doctor whos .ive now decided that all the 10 doctors are all good actors that played the roll.
This version is garbage. Generic '80s plastic synths, this arrangement sounds like it could have been written for a 'soap'... Eastenders of Neighbours at the time!
And btw... it is not just me, my 8 year old son also thinks the same! "Pants" is the word! :-)))
I would personally give the 1963-69 theme 7/10, 1970-79 theme 8/10, 1980-85 theme 6/10, 1986 theme 10/10, 1987-1989 theme 4/10, the 1996 theme 6/10, the 2005-7 theme 7/10 and the December 2007- present theme 6/10
This theme is not that bad actually, the 87-89 version is my least favourite because it just seems too 80's to me. The theme changed too much for me- Peter Howell's 80-85 version was a revamp (This 86 version is just a bit more) while the 87-89 was a very different theme. Gladly they brought back the original with a different style in the latest 4 series. Anyways 7/10 for this particular theme.

Man this version of the song sucks. It's too busy. Like they tried to cram every effect they could think of into it,

1986? So this was only used on Trial of a Timelord?

Sorry, but that is simply not true. Synthesizers existed in 1963...
Flavour666 2 years ago 5
agreed
however there were analog synthesizers in the 1950's already
Switched on Bach by Wendy Carlos from 1968 was the first all synthesizer made record, and it was a big seller too.

This version was use in the "Trial of a Timelord" only, which was the last series for the 6th doctor.

First time the Colin Baker opening was used in Dr. who was "The Twin Dilemma", except it used Peter Howell's theme.

the bass line is the best on this one but the rest is firmly grounded in the 80s school of cheese synth

This is the 80's version which playd a part in killing off dr who for many years, it's not hard to see why.

What are you talking about? This is a good theme. If you're going to blame anything for killing of Doctor Who, blame the crack-pot producers.

... I don't even know what to say to you people anymore. I don't know why no one likes either of the versions from the late 80s.
