umm just a hint.. when you bring your arm back in the 'bow and arrow' posession.. your elbow should be above your sholder. so then you are extending up to hit over the ball.. the technique you are showing is to have your elbow down by your side..
lol My instructor told me think of the following- Batman(bending down), Robinhood (I'm pretty sure u no what I mean), and superman for the powerful spiking TOP SPIN!
@youngsterx07 you are so right. It is the same concept for hitting on tennis. you have a stronger hit when you have acceleration. a quick snap or fast movement gives the ball a lot of velocity.
This is amazing. And Hasina1999, you just gotta keep practicing. Just always be really respectful of your coach no matter what. You will eventually earn theirs.:)
i tried out for vollley ball and i did not make it and a bunch of girls who were worse then me made it . i hate the couch she always picks favourites and she is sooo anoyying!!this didnt even help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should consider mentionind Latissimus Dorsi aswell. Teres Major is just a synergist (assisting muscle) in armswing while hitting in volleyball. You'll never get much power out of Teres, but you can hit quite hard using your Lat. Dors.
A lot of the power comes form Triceps Brachii too.
A bit strange as you should know all this, volleyball expert.
I thnk the picture of the elbow being back is plain wrong. I am sure his elbow never goes that low at the back - is he hitting the ball at the height of his forehead, really? All slow motion videos I've seen show elbow ending almost vertically up and a littel bit in front in a real hit I wish this coach would do a 100 hits against a block, record himself in slow motion and then REDO this video to teach us "what REALLY happens when I am hitting the ball" not "What I THINK happens".
@boldandfunny Elbow being back is a starting position and the it goes then the way you describe. he did not say something wrong. he focused on the movement of the body and having the arms like arrows to give a stronger or powerful hit.
@Miisu6 A bit strange that you cop such a rude attitude when you obviously didn't even double check your facts. He specifically describes the importance of NOT striking in a way that only utilizes the Teres Major.
Being left handed gives you an advantage as you have more options from the right side of the court. As a setter you always have the option to go on two from your strong side. This keeps the defense honest. For height stay off the net a little and really snap your wrist to drive the ball down. There is an entire series on hitting from lefty Ed Ratledge on our website.
I will try and get some video of him hitting up in the next few weeks. Also did you see the videos on hitting with power by Andor Gyulai and Seth Burnham?
@jogaserbia The video is the first in the series of Mike's stand alone videos. This and more are available to paid members where you can see all of his videos, including a brand new series on blocking and blocking footwork!
