No, not at all - my spiders are active little dudes without me having to poke them with rulers. At least if you're going to treat them like that, play fair, and poke that genic with your finger. Then, if it wants to register its disappointment with you, it can !
Actually you can handle some of the docile species (this is not one of them). It's not recommended though, because it can damage the spider. And yes, I do think tarantulas are very beautiful animals and some species even cute.
