To my surprise some of the ex WWII army ammunition I have still has cordite as the propellent. I still use it as the rounds are as good as the modern rounds. More cleaning though due to the corrosive primers.
@camerl2009 Bullets are easy to pull. The Cordite is very corrosive and so is the mercuric primers. They'll shoot fine but clean the weapon very thoroughly when done immediately . Use hot soapy water first then a good bore solvent like Hoppes #9 and then use Break Free to protect the barrel
Old ammo is COOL!!! You n=may have to trim the shells down a bit to fit your new worthless modern rifle - but please do so!!! That is what my Uncle Ned taught me and he always got his deer. So trim em down and shoot em up - fine stuff!!!
Not yet. We are concentrating on the manufacture of premium and specialty ammunition for now. We throw in a few ger reviews but eventually we will get into particular weapon systems and how to use them tactically along with team sized operations.
When you say that cordite has been out of production for 70 years do you mean a specific type or as a whole? As cordite manufacture didn't cease in the UK till the end of the last century.
Couple of questions. One, Did they, or could they have reloaded this ammo "back in the day" like we can do now? And if so, how would they ask for or measure the charge of propellant? In strands(or sticks) or grains like today?
Because it burns much FASTER when it's under pressure; the pressure inside the case (caused by the ignition of the primer, and the pressure "stepping up" as the cordite begins to burn) is what really gives smokeless propellants their boost over black powder.

im looking at some kynoch .577-450 MH i have to ask how hard was it to
pull the bullet out ive heard that cordite is real hard on rifles and wears
the gun faster.

Same type of powder as the Pakistani .303 BR?

Could be. I don't have any Paki ammo. I have some .303 dated 1909.

the box probably wont last the next 100 years if you touch it without gloves which protects the paper, color etc. from sweat.

stereonut001 3 years ago
Yes they did. If it was black powder it was measured out in volume and if it was Cordite it was the number of sticks.

I know. Smokeless is pretty durable.
ammosmith 3 years ago
I'll have to watch it again, to understand it further. The cordite was burning so slowly, how could it have propel such a heavy bullet? Thanks.
