are attacks to the knee allowed (cos there are a few here)? - I do karate these strikes are illegal simply cos its cripples your opponent (same with axe kicks & full on lock-out edge of foot kicks)

the stamina of these fighters is amazing - even if the actual techniques seem a bit scrappy.

boxe francaise and savate are synonyms. if french boxing means BF (litteral translation), then it is the same. It is different from kick boxing, full contact, savate defense or muay thai of course.

In BF, no knees, no elbows, no tibias.

It's been said that the difference between a Savate kick and that of, say, Muay Thai, is that of being struck with a hammer and a baseball bat, respectively (of course, this does depend on the kick. Also, you just gotta love the Coup de pied bas...

this is not savate, this is french kickboxing, "boxe francaise"

Although both are affiliated, savate is generally associated with "Savate-défense" which is a self-defense discipline along the likes of pencak-silat, krav maga, hapkido, russian systema etc.

It looks like that even with boots , they can't inflict serious pain to each other .

im a muay thai practioner, after seeing savate i reckon all you need is to add knees, elbow, headbutts, and kick defenses and youll have a complete kickboxing sport. Maybe add the throwing that san shou guys do as well but i havent learnt that.

A lot of savate fighters are also fighting in Muay thai, though. In France, there is no professional fights for savate, and those wanting to earn money are doing either Muay thai or kickboxing.

I agree for the fact that savate is a great fighting sport, but disagree for your comment against assault. That's a good way for beginners, to fight an opponent without too much damage, and another good way to achieve good technical knowledge. As for this fight, and knowing they are both great fighters, there are a lot of fooled tricks (un-armed kicks, for instance)and tibias...

Just help me with something . I don't exactly remember it , but Savate don't have no defence against low kicks ? It looks in this movie that the fighters take all the kicks , and don't use shin blocks . Instead they preffer back or side steps .

In combat, you don't have other protection than for the teeth and the balls.

The points given are 1 for leg-kicks in the legs, 2 in the middle of the body, three for a leg-kick in the head. The better way is two answer to a low kick immediatly, to "cancel" the point (1 to 1). You can see that they sometimes try to avoid, but it goes very fast...

The best way to avoid low kicks are what you say, side steps or back, or to level your leg and try to kick back...

BTW, this is not the best fight ever, especially to shoq technical stuff, even if, I repeat, both are great fighters!

Hey there ! yes it's a really nice fight, i pratice myself savate, and about how to avoid low kick, everythings have been said, just step right/left/back or leg avoid (avoid kick with one of your kick).
