I love a large number of Woody Allens films very much, but i think it's possible i love the old school jazz/Golden Age music even more, Fats Waller, Fletcher Henderson, Jelly Roll Morton, Ambrose Orchestra, Django, etc etc Irving Berlin, even old Scott Joplin, i want to get much further into the New Orleans stuff. I'm still in my twenties, sad to hear that this kind of music is dying out, how can it be! This is the most joyful and exciting music!
Saw Allen play at Michael's pub many years ago. It was fun, the music was very good, but Allen hardly interacted with the audience at all. In fact, I don't remember him saying anything at all, except MAYBE introduce the band members. But it was a thrill because I had been a huge fan of all his movies. :0)
Thank you for posting this! I went to see this in Paris when it came out and as a former New Yorker, 53 years old, I found it fascinating. I have some clips up of manouche swing you might like -- Woody really liked manouche swing here in Paris, and our grey skies!
Well, I saw him at Carlyle in2001 and his entrance was hardly noticed!
His playing was not bad bur t kept changing the reed all the time!
Got an autograph at the end as well!

I enjoyed this video very much (and would like to have heard some of the "non-existent jazz" the musician at the end spoke of.
