I was 19 years old and lived in Trumbull Connecticut. I was fortunate enough to have gone to this show. It was at the Convention Center in Asbury Park New Jersey. We were about 8 rows back. I have to say, seeing Skynyrd back in the day made you appreciate the raw power they generated. It was like going to a big ass party! Skynyrd was there for one reason...the fans. We had a friggin blast! Ronnie interacted with the crowd so much, he made you feel appreciated..really. I will never forget it!..
Ya know... As much as Skynyrd isn't "one person" like a lot of new listeners think at first, Ronnie Van Zandt was the essense of Skynyrd. His lyrics, his stage presence, his singing... He was a force to be reckoned with.
Listen to the begining of the song. 8 clock in the moring. In Boise, Idaho. Thats right. I am from Boise. This song is about a girl. That he meet in Idaho.
ok yankees, this song is for southern boys only, but today we have a special,we will let 2 yankees listen, but u must apply; go to me wish me were a southern boy ,ask for big bubba...
wow. they just RIP IT UP. like they're so perfect live. but they have such a cool style. and each member had their own unique stage presence. so cool. theyre just the fucking coolest dudes. they all look sick and play sick. they have great chemistry. i cant say that about other bands. they were just simple men from the streets singing about honest life. i cant see that in bands like the beatles and zeppelin.
They all had DIFFERENT styles..Gaines was Motown/fuck/r+b/blues/country Rossington was like Paul Kosoff...Allen was a Clapton Fanatic..( Cream Era Clapton)...but IT WORKED their styles never clashed..and the thing about it was when ever you heard one of them dong a solo..you knew who it was..same thing when Ed King was in the band..They were ALL SO DIFFERENT but together it was a masterpiece...
@jojojosmart That's why they always did "CROSSROADS" in concert...as a tribute to the Clapton era Cream...RVZ said he and Allen and Gary sold Coke bottles and worked their way to Miami to see Cream in the 60's...Said it was the best concert they had ever seen and still was...Allen Collins also played a Firebird because of his love for Clapton...
Eight More Shows was ALL THIS LINE UP WOULD EVER DO...October 19, 1977 Greenville, South Carolina was the last show...October 20, 1977 en route to Baton Rouge it was all over with..
Just a great band!

@SteveGaines I didn'y know Collins was a Clapton fan- I guess that's why he plays somewhat unorthodox and sounds so good. Really from the soul.
