Interesting . . . Paul Carrack on keyboards and dodgy vocals, Mike Rutherford on rhythm guitar, and Clapton mostly doing nothing except hanging around in back until he takes over part of the solo at the end. I think Nick is the only one who's consistently in the groove, while Roger's too busy trying to orchestrate so that it can sound more like "Comfortably Numb"! This should have constituted quite the supergroup here, but no, a hundred tribute bands do it better. No rehearsal time?
that song is not the same without gilmour...=/... i love clapton´s style too but this is not his genre, he belongs to blues and other genres..=l but its still good..:)
@MrPinkfloydfan1 exactly. I think Gilmour owns this song, even if you added jimi hendrix dave is the best at this song.thanks for posting. I always wondered what would happen with a backing band like this on Floyd.
Roger Waters and Nick Mason started the band with Syd Barrett. The honest truth is that David Gilmour's sound later defined the band (and part of the Floyd's problem) but the name and originality mainly belong to Waters. Shame they could not agree on this.
@etg2010 Ya but I watched it again with a buddy last night and Waters was pissed drunk we had a good laugh. Did you see their get up stand up version from the same concert?
mental health, or tom cruise and travolta, people like us can't explain, i get the dead cause " if i had to fucking explain you wouldn't fuckn understand" how much time i got, my max is like me i miss him, it sucks, he's a fucken artist
Who's the guitarist on the left doin the first solo? He's gotta alot of balls doin Gilmours part. I like how Clapton just hung out in the background and did his thing at the end because he knows this is Gilmour's song. I was pretty impressed with his ending solo.
My biggest question is if David Gilmour saw this, would he die a little inside, or just smirk like Spongebob when he finds out that Squidward likes Krabby Patties?
roger waters, nick mason and eric clapton should have been a recipe for something beautiful.... but this was well below par... the only thing that i enjoyed was the novelty of seeing roger sing gilmours part during the second verse.... that was a novelty :)
@mathmss Rogers was the brain for Pink Floyd. Good at making lyrics. Gilmour, Mason and Wright were the soul. Their music made Pink Floyd. Waters would of been nothing without them.
@rdaws73 I think it is the opposite. There are many good bands made by good musicians, what makes PF different is a genius in every sense of the word leading the band.
As far as I'm concerned, Pink Floyd was never Pink Floyd after the breakup of Roger and David. The whole was greater than its parts, both bringing a certain magic that was unique in total. How can anyone say one was better than the other as PF? You can prefer one or the other as solo artists, but as Pink Floyd, they were equals for different reasons.
@Dharmadevil Im amazed at how few people think this and claim to be pink floyd fans, although i didnt think the syd barett era was anything too special, that may have been because the 70's heralded new style of pink floyd, either way pink floyd was better by a country mile then anything before or since with gilmour and waters together. meddle, dsotm, animals, the wall and wish you were here prove this undoubtedly.
@Dharmadevil I absolutely agree with you. Pink Floyd has never been the same! The brains behing the whole PINK FLOYD success was ROGER WATERS! Even today during his SOLD OUT concerts it has been proven he is the only carryin g the flag for what the band meant to me and the millions of fans throughout this time
@Dharmadevil what you say is very true , it;s like comparing the Beatles music to Paul McCartney's solo music and when he performed with "Wings" they are different completely the simple fact is , as a lyricist you would have to go a great way to find better that Roger Waters and as a guitarist and all round musician you would have to do the same to beat David Gilmour ( just my opinion you understand !)
@Dharmadevil I think they were always Pink Floyd. I totally understand what you are saying though. They did lose a special something once Roger left. Shit, they lost something special when Rick left for a while. But each album is Pink Floyd to me.
For anyone who isn't sure, Eric Clapton does NOT take a solo until near the end of the song. And I believe the keyboard player who sings the chorus is from Mike and the Mechanics (forget his name but great, soulful voice), along with Mike Rutherford. Just saying.
@ihatemondays971 .....no you're not....i think nick died.... with this cam phone shot, i nearly couldn't see eric....and whoever said dave can only do this, i agree....rog wrote the shit but he sings worse than me, and i have 40 yrs experience in bands (53 in april)... i do a few lead vocals (like gilmour)...and if nobody noticed, rick wright recently passed.....via interviews, i've come to realize dave and rog are not only talented, but intelligent...love 'em
Clapton did ok with it. Would like to hear this with better sound. But for me, only David Gilmour sounds right playing it. Wouldn't mind seeing an album of PF covers with great guitarists and not that long-haired hack who did the first solo. The comparisons would be interesting.
well, clapton has his own unique style - why should he sound like Gilmour, who has his own? This is, after all, not a Pink Floyd original performance, it's a cover. I think Clapton's solo is very, very good. We are just so used to David playing this, that anything else sounds "not right" - but actually, what Eric plays there is just fine. Come on guys, stop being music nazis all the time. I hate youtube for these comments.
Funny how we all judge who is best or whatever. I'm the biggest Clapton fan ever and truth be told no one can play a Gilmore solo. Thats why all these acts have been around so long. You can imitate music but you can't imitate or recreate feeling. All the great acts have feeling, especially Gilmore's solos
This was obviously a "very" impomptu performance. I like it. It lets you know these guys are only human after all. ;-). Actually, Clapton's solo is pretty cool. Also, a rare lineup of guys.
clapton, nick and roger were brillant, but its a very poor performance from the rest of the band :/, solo at 2:05 was weak and chorus didn't kick in at 3:15...
I'm sorry. but it's not pink floyd (only Gilmour can play this solo so,that you sit for an hour and think about these notes. Clapton wonderful guitarist. But not now
@1952tommie if not for Waters....this song would have never materialized in the way that it did....the verses, the lyrics all Waters...the chorus/guitar solo was Gilmours.....put em all together and what do you get....Pink Floyd baby....another case where one artist had an unfinished song and another did too......and mixed them together to create a awesome song which works better collectively, rather than singularly...Badfinger's Without You was done in a similar fashion....
Eric Clapton is very goooood in the solo....but David Gilmour is David Gilmour
I was in Rodger Waters concert in Prague....Good show guitarist plays excellent but sound and a magic David Gilmour they cant repeat....Sorry for english friends
Stop bitching about Gilmour, he does not wanna play anymore, and this is a superb version. EC has played with Waters many times before (84) and it alwasy rocks.
Not one of those lead guitarist can touch the pure and raw emotion that David puts into that song. Nice try through. I choose Gilmour over Clampton any day.
@Emilyplays1 I kind of agree with you there, on him being a tad bit boring NOW, but that could be because of decades of playing. What Eric has done during the 60s, 70s, 80s and even the 90s, was amazing, to say the least. His live performances from all these eras speak for themselves. He was never boring, always improvising, being creative and not as 'calculated' as you said. But yeah, I think the age is getting to him now. He shall always remain one of the gods for me though.
I don't see the point in having Eric there at all because he either sings the David Gilmour bit and plays the solo or just plays in the background and if he does that then your under utilising him. If he was to play the solo it would be this improv blues thing.
I personally find Clapton to be very boring. He can't play any style of blues but to me it's always calculated, predictable and boring. He's a professional nontheless and appears to be a very good person. But I don't buy his music.
Clapton is known for his solos really. But the solo on this record is such a good solo, it really needs to be played note for note as is on the record because its so good. It's like when someone doesn't sing the original melody, you tend to lose a lot of people. I'm all up for improv, but for some songs I just want to hear it like it is on record for the most part.
The lead guitarist in Rogers band knows the solo but Clapton always gets the limelight because he's Eric Clapton. TBC
Roger waters is a hell of a bass player and in his prime a fairly good singer too, but not anymore. He's wearing himself out with his constant tours. His voice is just gone.
Wow. Waters the perfectionist slaps together a band comprised of a few legends and some dudes from the local prom/wedding/bar scene. Clapton barely able to save the day at the end.
Is that that k**b Paul Carrack under the leather hat? He should have stuffed it in his mouth and kept quiet. Awful - and as for that 1st solo........Van Gogh had a better ear for music.
@coolmodine Yeah, I mean yes, they could analyze and put their personal musical "touch" on it, not to be just a copy... Anyways, Gilmour is Gilmour... do not try to imitate him, just learn from him.
Com on. Don't be narrow minded mentioning Gilmour's name 100000 times that none can replace him. This is great. Clapton is fantastic. Vocals are pretty good too. Waters like usually great. So shut up and enjoy the music.
hmm.... i think clapton did not want to come off sounding as if he was trying to "gilmour" version so he did it in a subtle way. clapton doesn't have anything to prove and it's not his song.
Easily the most appalling dogs dinner of a version of this song I have ever seen and God knows I've seen a few. Paul Carrack should have been marched out behind the stage and shot for that chorus.
Eric does great but seems like they where having issues this night cause everything is a sloppy mess! Iv seen Roger live and he is great live but this version needs help beyond claptin! we need gilmour!
oh and claptin probably could have saved the song by playing the 1st solo.!
Is that the guitar player from Boston? His vibrato sucks so bad he could be.

Isn't it Mike Rutherford on the right behind Roger Waters ?

@stfphi95 I think so!

Clapton barely able to save the day at the end.

wtf happened here.... wow they must have been really comfortably numb here... accept Eric, the solo was decent...

extremly cold that night

Is that that k**b Paul Carrack under the leather hat? He should have stuffed it in his mouth and kept quiet. Awful - and as for that 1st solo........Van Gogh had a better ear for music.

CMON! EVEN I CAN PLAY THE FIRST SOLO BETTER THAN THAT!

DAMN THE SOLO SUCKED

@coolmodine Yeah, I mean yes, they could analyze and put their personal musical "touch" on it, not to be just a copy... Anyways, Gilmour is Gilmour... do not try to imitate him, just learn from him.

Com on. Don't be narrow minded mentioning Gilmour's name 100000 times that none can replace him. This is great. Clapton is fantastic. Vocals are pretty good too. Waters like usually great. So shut up and enjoy the music.

Roger Waters, Eric Clapton, Mike Rutherford, que coisa rara!!
MAGRAO2903 3 months ago
Fantastic! Clapton rules!!!!!!!!!
gorshgajl 3 months ago
hmm.... i think clapton did not want to come off sounding as if he was trying to "gilmour" version so he did it in a subtle way. clapton doesn't have anything to prove and it's not his song.

Easily the most appalling dogs dinner of a version of this song I have ever seen and God knows I've seen a few. Paul Carrack should have been marched out behind the stage and shot for that chorus.
mikec32001 3 months ago
Comfortably numb is UNCOMFORTABLE without David "God" Gilmour.
nipo10847 3 months ago 2
the first guy on lead guitar sucks. CLAPTON OR FRIPP must play the first solo!!!
psicosonico 3 months ago
A distant smokeship? epic fail from the guy doing the chorus

Where's Eric?

Clapton, who is easily one of the best guitar players ever, can't hold a candle to a GUITAR GOD like Gilmour!
Gilmour doesn't just PLAY the guitar, when he plays this solo, he IS the GUITAR and the song.
Quake120 4 months ago
this is trash, song must be played by david gilmour

I think the guitarist with the glasses may be Geoff Whitehorn

He's from Mike and the Mechanics

backing vocals Paul Carrick on the first solo

...you have to be a guitarist or at least a musician to understand how they express their respect for ther fellow musicians.
There can be no higher compliment when a guitar giant plays the solo of another guitar giant.
And that giant shoudl interpret the solo or superimpose thier style upon it rather than just copying it note for note.
If you wish to hear the original then pull out the CD from your cabinet, or watch some live concert DVDs of the band.

Even the great ones can fail. We're all human....

vocals sucked. solo was boring. clapton is the greatest at his own style. he is truly a god in the music industry, just not in this performance

what a mess! still loved it.
FinalCurve 4 months ago
Eric does great but seems like they where having issues this night cause everything is a sloppy mess! Iv seen Roger live and he is great live but this version needs help beyond claptin! we need gilmour!
oh and claptin probably could have saved the song by playing the 1st solo.!
