Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so there is no accounting for taste. I have seen Sean of late & he still looks as sexy, youthfull & vibrant as ever. The music was the main reason why most people went to see the Lookalikes... it was'nt a beauty contest! Sean wrote & sang some beautiful songs which still get played on the radio today....that speaks volumes even talent wise.

My friends &I were all huge Lookalikes fans. Out of a group of 12 girls that I hung around with 10 of us ALL had the biggest crushes on Sean O'Connor & thought that he was the sexiest to look at, in the way he moved, sang,interacted with the audience, plus personality wise. He stood out by a mile in our opinion with his stage presence & how he brought the songs which he wrote to life.

Billy Gaff, owner of Riva Records and former manager of Rod Stewart, was on Eamonn Dunphy's show last week and he stated more than once that he came to Dublin to sign U2 but signed The Lookalikes instead. He also stated that it was the honest truth more than once. Billy Gaff is a fucking liar, but he did say it.

"Can I Take You Home Tonight" - one of the best Irish singles ever - was played on my local radio station today (Midlands Radio 3. I was in work and said to the guy next to me "Oh my God, do you remember this?" He just looked confused and said no.

Then I realised he's 24, younger than the song!!! God I'm getting old.

I saw these guys in March 1982, they were the opening band for Thin Lizzy. This was in Nurnberg, Germany. They were a pretty good live show.

Great Song & jacket. Does anyone know if Sean still plays at any Dublin venues. I just got divorced and am planning a Free Again Party so I'd like to celebrate with some good sounds as I get back on the Dublin circuit..I wonder has he still got that jacket as I have a nice pair of trousers that would go with that. A brilliant band that was a musical treat for my friends & I in the venues we haunted. They far surpasses the likes of U2 & their contemparies of their time. Loved Sean's vocals & gifted hands & if memory serves me well he was easy on the eyes & he had quite a cute butt & legs to go with it. I enjoyed venues such as the Crofton. Would'nt mind another all nite session up at the Crofton just for old time sake if he was playing there. Hope the Sex God of all time is still strutting his stuff.Mmmmm

1982/83 I was working with the German Embassy in Dublin. That time I got married to a chinese girl and Sean (& Gillian) took part at our wedding reception. I wonder whether he still remembers?

I still remember when he showed up at my house about 2am in the morning - together with some friends - asking: "Hi Ritchy, have you got a Bitburger (german beer)?"

Today my son Kevin is working at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin as a Chef.

I left Ireland in '86 and this brings back a lot of memories, Baggot, Sportsmans etc, we had a blast in our late teens watching these guys. Good to hear they are still playing, what is the name of the band? What happened to Paul Bell, anyone out there know? Found Zerra One as well.....

Paul Bell here. After the lookalikes I moved to London and formed Zerra One. We released 2 albums and toured with U2, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, Big Country, Ultravox and lots more. After Zerra One I formed The Wild Swans with fellow Wexford man Brendan Wade. We had a huge hit in 1996 with songs we wrote about Wexford hurling. Wexford won the All Ireland that year, the record went to number One on the day of the final. I have some great memories of The Baggot, Mc Gons and The Crofton. Slan. Paul

I last saw thes perform in florida in a small irish pub called the harp and piper.the line up at the time was mick redmond on bass, dave sandler on drums and of course the fender god himself Sean o connor.They were brilliant and rocked the place and we ended up goin on the lash with them for a few days.Would love to see them play again...

thank god it was no gaff that he signed the lookalikes. a great move i guess at the time but sadly they didnt last to meny year but were a brilliant outfit. actually the lookalikes were better then than u2 by a 100 miles. ok u2 got good after a while but give me the lookalikes anyday. the lead guitarist was a top class guitarist and still is except he is even better than he was then. lookalikes ruled like thin lizzy ruled in another way and not forgetting 3 piece outfit mamas boys. kf.

Philip Lynott was a close friend and fan of The Lookalikes and played live with them many times. On Pat Kenny's radio show he said that Seán O'Connor of The Lookalikes was the best Irish songwriter of his generation.Philip invited The Lookalikes to support Thin Lizzy on the Chinatown and Renegade tours and invited Seán to play live with Lizzy frequently.During the 31 years you say it took you to grow up you should have known The Lookalikes played all original music if ur head wasn't up ur ass.

The Lookalikes had a massive loyal following and broke attendance records in every major music venue in Dublin. On the strength of some early demo recordings written by Sean, it wasn't long before a steady stream of A&R personnel were making their way from London to Dublin to get the Lookalikes' signature for their respective labels. In all, the band were offered a staggering total of thirteen major label recording contracts,more than any Irish band before or since.

The Lookalikes represented Ireland in a European radio competition called European Pop Jury which consisted of 16 European countries voting for the best song. The Lookalikes won twice, beating the likes of ABBA and The Boomtown Rats. On the third occasion The Lookalikes came second. In all, The Lookalikes recorded five singles, the second of which "Call Me" was single of the week in popular English music paper Melody Maker, and one album (still sought after today) - DAYDREAMIN AT NIGHT.

@murdertube You are a very unusual person. I've never known of anyone else who grew from 63 to 94 as you say you did. You missed the best years of your life, and worse still, you never got the chance to see Ireland's best live band and personal friends of the late Philip Lynott - The Lookalikes.

I hadn't heard anything by this band before. From the comments I gather they must be Irish. To me they sound a lot like The Starjets who were an Irish band of that era. Their album is a favourite of mine. I gather there must have been a bit of an Irish powerpop cult back then. Anyone know of any oyher good bands?.

the lookalikes were the best of the era.. sean o connor has even got better a quarter of a century later... reunion i believe to happen this year but when defo news i will tell it as even sean hopes it happens soon but we just have to wait and see what happens... mind you please god it will happen.. there is to a dvd of lookalikes in the near future.. also he will let everyone know... i can not wait for it.. counting the days till i can play that dvd sean... k.
