Ok if the 7th day never ended, then there can't be a 8th day beloved. as we see in scripture to conciter a "day" was evening to morning, nice try my friend
you didnt really say much on your view on the sabbath. What is it exactly your trying to say brother. Its not sat or sun its not Jesus, so what is the sabbath day rest, that you didnt explain, sounds like you need a part 2 just to explain your theory beloved, bless you
Jesus did go to the synagogue to preach on the 7th day Sabbath. That doesn't mean that we, as Christians, can do servile work on the Sabbath day, which is totally different than when a minister 'works' in God's service on the Sabbath day. The Sabbath is a commandment of God and the following verses do point our need as Christians to keep all of God's Commandments: Matthew 19:17; John 14:15; 1 John 5:3; Hebrews 4:4-9 and Revelation 14:12.
The problem is not in obeying the commandments, it is do we obey them by the image that man has layed out, or by God? We must always take into account that God is a Spirit, and as such, we are to make no similitude of Him. Yes, to obey the Sabbath is a commandment that we must obey. Just not the way that man obeys it. Did Jesus go into the synagogue to preach on the 7th day of the week by commandment? No. He taught on the 7th day because it was His custom. Luke 4:16
@vicratcliff, yes, my brother, God is Spirit, no doubt about it there. And it was His custom to teach on the 7th day. However, by His example, He followed the 7th day Sabbath commandment like all other commandments. Our High Priest also mentioned that He was not here to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill it, to set us an example. So He kept the commandments that He gave to Moses (physical aspect of the law) as well as the spiritual intent of the law (Law of Christ).
@Habsfan0206 Now in God being a Spirit, did not Jesus teach that it is indeed lawful to do good on not only the Sabbath, but any day of the week? The commandment of the Sabbath was to "remember" how God rested. The true way of obeying this is in understanding the pattern layed out in Exodus 16. When John 6 is applied to this story along with a day with the Lord is as 1000 yrs, we begin to understand its meaning. Paul understood it well. 1 Corinthians 7:17-20.
@vicratcliff, of course, it's lawful, even logical, to do good on the Sabbath or any other day! Even Jesus Himself rebuked the Pharisees for not showing the fruits of the Spirit on the Sabbath. Jesus even performed miracles or did God's 'work' on the Sabbath. However, for servile work, the 4th commandment does say that we should 'remember the Sabbath day and to keep it holy'. So I ask you, what is meant here by 'keeping it holy?'
@Habsfan0206 To be holy is to be seperated from the world. It means to be sanctified. Now if a man works an 8 to 3 monday thru friday and stays home Saturdays doing no servile work, is he obeying the commandment of God? If a man works every Friday from sundown to Saturday at sundown, is he then, disobeying the commandment? We are to sanctify the Lord God in our HEARTS. We must also understand exactly what type of work we are to rest from. What work is being done in Revelation?
@Habsfan0206 We must also take into account as to WHO'S Sabbath is the law talking about. GOD'S Sabbath never ended in Genesis. However, we see the LORD GOD or the image of that Spirit of God dealing with man. It is here that one day as a thousand years begin. The pure Spirit or the Father resides in eternity. We are told to remain in our place as the Father did in Genesis.
@Habsfan0206 Therefore the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. So for those with the mind of Christ, they have in effect become, lords of the Sabbath. The key is that MAN WAS NOT MADE FOR THE SABBATH. Jesus worked just as His Father did.
@vicratcliff, we, as humans, are not 'lords' of the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for man. It's meant to be a delight but also a special time of dedication and obedience to our Creator God. Jesus worked in God's service; His work was not servile work like ours.
@Habsfan0206 If your wife had made you a sweater, is it not yours to do with as you please as long as you take heed to the instructions that came along with it? You mention servile work; I am presently working as a manager for a pizza place. I do so every Friday well into the morning, and it is the same Saturdays as well. Am I breaking the law of God? How so? It is stated in the Bible that all that is not of faith is sin. Why then be brought under the power of an IMAGE that passes away?
@vicratcliff, Romans 6:23 states, the wages of sin is death. Sin is when you break any one of God's commandments. The Sabbath is a commandment and the following verses do point our need as Christians to keep all of God's commandments: Matthew 19:17; John 14:15; 1 John 5:3; Hebrews 4:4-9 and Revelation 14:12. The last verse mentions that the saints or true believers are those that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. I've made my point. Pray to God about it. Thank you.
@Habsfan0206 Sin is transgression of the law, but the law was added because of transgression. How is this possible? You mention Hebrews 4 but you fail to grasp its true meaning. For He spoke IN A CERTAIN PLACE of the 7th day ON THIS WISE. It also states that the works were FINISHED since the foundation of the world. These verses does not mention a weekly rest as in our image, but a perpetual rest; a day that was available then as is now.
@Habsfan0206 Galatians 5:14-16,14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Is it of the Spirit or the flesh that you would devour me because I work on Saturdays? Or is the Sabbath excluded from this? I am confident that I obey His Sabbath commandment.
@Habsfan0206, I obey it not according to man but to God. Now, I ask this. Are you willing to change or will you continue to hold on to error? This certain place spoken of in Hebrews is in Genesis. I implore you, if I am wrong; show me. Did the Bible state that the 7th day ended by God? If so, please quote me the verse. Every "day" in creation ended with "and thus the evening and the morning were the __day." Please show me where this applied to the 7th.
@Habsfan0206 , When one accepts this truth, they begin to shape their understanding, not off of man's image, but God's image. One will understand that God did NOT create in 7 literal days. One will understand the meaning of being circumcised on the 8th day. One will understand the work we are to rest from. We are told, everyone of us to abide in our place. Rev. 22:11 is what obeying the Sabbath commandment truly means as all things in the absolute truest sense work for the good of God.
