If that isn't God given talent than I have no clue what talent is at all. Mrs. Woods is so amazing and I wish she would sing in person for me. I am a guy, but I will always get emotional when I hear her sing. Then to watch how she connects with herself and the Lord to bring out that amazing voice and extreme passion, I am blown away! I am watching and studying "Across The Universe" with my Musical Theatre class and this is by far my most favorite scene. Mrs. Woods, May God Bless You and Yours!
I thought the scene in the movie was strong, but seeing the reaction of the people and the singers during the audition says a lot about how the singers brings the emotion out of the song. Amazing!!
Carols son had been killed just weeks prior. She was channeling her pain in that song. And as we all saw, it was absolutely gripping. The writer/producer of the film said it wasn't even Carols turn to audition but she just stood up and belted. How could they turn her away after that.
The scene with Carol Woods has it's own story. I was lucky enough to have seen a private viewing of the film before it's release (courtesy of Oprah). Following the theater trip, we went back to the studio for a taping of the show, where the biggest stars of the movie sang. It was awesome. But mire than that, the story of Carol came out.
When I watched this bonus feature on the dvd I cried. That woman has such a powerful voice and so much emotion behind the that I don't know how it couldn't move anyone to tears.
@FAYEandAJ YES! I had goosebumps too. After seeing this video I immediately looked up her wiki page. There was so much emotion I wanted to see what she was really singing about. I'll guarantee you she was thinking of her son she lost a few years before this video. RIP Raymond Rickman.
WOW! I thought the scene in the movie was emotional. But seeing it live is so raw, visceral and organically emotional. I admit I teared up. I love how after Carol sings, the guy takes a step back and exhales like he was punched in the gut. Carol you punched us all in the gut, :)
It's one thing to know the notes. It's another thing to FEEL the notes...like they know you.
i am a 20 year old man from tailem bend south australia where i work and live on a farm, circumstances in my life have forced me to be the strong man in the family therefore i have not been able to cry, for some reason i dont understand watching this video has enabled me to let go and finally cry thank you carol woods for your voice and passion
@JamieRothery90 thats good man im from sydney and i admire farmers in australia and the harsh conditions you guys deal with so congrats with opening up and realise that people out there admire you work
im a 16 year old girl and i was sitting on the sofa with my dad, who made me a beatles fan, watching this movie and both of us were bawling our eyes out.
I'm a man...And to be honest...this went a touched me so fucking deep down so much soul put into this song and PASSION brought this woman to tears..if only the whole world was this passionate...we would not be living like this...
you know what sucks all the crap from the 60's 70's the hatered and war is coming back yet again this time however i don't think as many people will have the drive for a revolution
to begin with this song isnt even about God or anything pertaining to a religion, Mother Mary was Paul McCartney's mother who died and whom he's referring to in this song.
@flop789, Carol Woods worked her entire life for that voice and that talent, and now its HER time to shine. God has no part in this, leave that business out. Enjoy an amazing woman with an even better voice, and a bigger heart. She earned this, she worked for it, its her moment now. Not a moment for some sentient being no one can see.
It is absolutely astounding and inspiring to see people get so emotional with their music. Anyone can just play music, but to make yourself and your feelings a part of it adds to the overall beauty of the piece. This was incredible to watch.
Also spiritual and religious are two different things, lets make sure we differentiate. One can be spiritual and atheist at the same time, it is about having purpose not a deity.
this was so beautiful she was beautiful her voice was beautiful....she brought tears to my eyes especially when it showed her crying made it even more emotional for me.....THERE IS A MESSAGE TO THIS SONG......SO PLEASE LET IT BE
I LOVE this special, and the way Julie Taymor portrayed this song in the film was just absolutely beautiful. I can't watch it without crying because I had a young friend when I was 15 who was shot in a drive-by. He died a week later. He was 13. It had been a mistaken identity. He was the sweetest boy, and I think of him every time I see that little boy in that casket. It really does change you. Kudos to Julie! Thank you!
like x 1000. i always rewatch the WHOLE special features just to see this bit. cried the first time i watched it, cried the second time. get close to tears everytime.
I watch this every time I have an audition, right before I go in. It's a person with a magnificent gift, being completely honest about who she is. She leaves everything up there. It's incredible.
@srvrip13 That has everything to do with God especially if you believe that He is the Creator of every living thing....so I mean theologically... you're incorrect.
If you didn't believe in GOD before this video ... You GOT to believe NOW!!! There is POWER in this to move the heart of stone! GOD Bless you Carol Woods! You blessed me today!
