Yes, I find that very sad because they inspired so many bands who decided to stay ture to their calling. Im not saying they are bad, musically, but compared to this they do suck. Im not naïve enough to believe they could keep doing One, Master of Puppets or For Whom the Bell Tolls forever but the songs they do today lack substance. Ive heard James comment about selling out and that pretty much confirms the direction they chose to take.

its basically an anti-war film, which was a novel originally and was quite controversial and banned during world war 2 and un banned afterwards. (it was written about World War 1)

I think its about being in the most horrible terror and depression or pain, and with no way of escape, literaly. Metallica i don't think wrote the song by itself for the topic, i think it developed off of this novel
