what are the best tools used to implement such designs? Is a tractor with a plow necessary? How would one operate a tractor on a steep slope and do the key point ponds need to be lined with something?

Trees are not highly regarded as a source of food for livestock but that is a good reason for planting trees. Many species produce leaves that are high in protein. Nice shelter for critters who live out in the open too.
