  • Thanks a lot for your list! I appreciate it!

  • Freddie Hubbard and the New Jazz Composers Octet "One of Another Kind"

    Freddie Hubbard Flugelhorn

    David Weiss- Trumpet

    Myron Walden- Alto Sax

    Jimmy Greene- Tenor Sax

    Steve Davis- Trombone

    Chris Karlic- Baritone Sax

    Xavier Davis- Piano

    Dwayne Burno- Bass

    E.J. Strickland- Drums

  • No, he isn't but I don't know his name....

  • is that art blakey playing drums? i know he was dead by then but i mean look at that guy

  • Freddie said fuck it... I guess I'll go out like a freaking champ. Busted lip and all.

  • You know I respect Freddie..... today's trumpeters know their lips are messing so they learn to sing, play piano or something regarding music. Arturo is trying to enforce his fans that he now plays piano (which they don't want). Roy Hargrove is doing the big band stuff. All he does is take his solo and the rest of time the band plays. Wynton.... well can't say nothing about him. Haven't heard from Nicholas Payton after his album "Into The Blue". Not knocking any of these trumpeters.

  • Yea, but when legends come to the end we need to respect them for what they have accomplished, and for trying to still make the people happy. GOD bless you dad. R.I.P.

  • I love Freddie too!

  • please post more info abiout when and where this concert was.

  • thanks for all your great music. rest in peace great freddy.

  • found the name of the tune...

One of Another Kind by Hubbard. Great tune, with a great live version on Live At Keystone Corner 2. Definitely worth checking out (recorded 1982 I think)

  • this tune was recorded is 1982 on a MCoy Tyner album with fredí, Hubbert Laws, Stanley Clarke .. i lost the lP i was just 12, réal go Recording , still looking for it.

  • Yeah, the recording was McCoy Tyner from 1978. The album was called "Together".

  • What is this? sounds like a Woody Shaw song

  • I agree with whumbyrd. I just saw Freddie last night in San Francisco. It was very sad to see him struggle just to play a few notes that would work with the changes. His chops are gone now, but he will forever remain one of the greatest trumpet players to ever live.

  • This is so sad to watch. Freddie is 10% of what he use to be. I think this is the gig they did toward the end of last year in NYC. David Weis is to be commended for getting Freddie playing again. The band is hot, the arrangements are hot. Freddie is and always will be the greatest jazz trumpeter who ever played in my opinion. It breaks my heart to hear him sounding like this. I love the man. God bless Freddie Hubbard.

  • Maybe you're right

  • word...RIP freddie

  • @whumbyrd But that 10% is still suprisingly better than some, and does manage to remind one of his glory days.

  • @whumbyr he had messed up lips... its happens with all the playing he did. we're talking about 40 years.
