Can anyone tell me where the Yamato CGI in this video came from?

Please don't say that it's from the live-action Japanese movie, because I've seen it, and trust me, not a single frame of CGI from this video is in the movie. The fighters and aliens ships are completely different, and the capital ship battles are slow and ponderous compared to what's shown here.

This CGI looks professionally done, which makes me wonder, if it didn't come from the movie, where IS it from?

@RX78 Thanks for the reply. I'm amazed that they made such professional looking CGI for a game. Honestly, the few short scenes of battles in this video were more exciting than anything in the actual movie. Not sure what I was expecting, since I don't really remember the series, but I was often bored by the movie and by the fact that it seemed to take a 2 minute discussion before they fired any of the weapons.

@RX78 I would have liked more action and for the battles not to be so slow-paced. The movie made it look as if the Yamato's top normal speed was about 1MPH. From the time the missile was launched at Earth until he blew it up took about 13 minutes. I'm not saying the movie had to be all action, but I didn't expect the space battles to be like a game of chess and so far between.

I can understand where you are comming from. I havn't seen the movie yet, so I don't know the distances involved, but a thing a lot of people tend to forget is that space is fucking HUGE. Apollo took 3 day to get to the moon with a speed of about 40.000 kph!

That is once around the earth in an hour. So even if the distance was 1/10th to clear that distance in 13 minutes is fast an average speed of 167.340 kph, four times the speed of Apollo! And it is only an average!

@Mehatos True, but then again, it IS a movie about a flying battleship, so extreme realism isn't exactly the first thing you think of.

Besides, the entire 13 minutes wasn't spent going after the missile. Probably a full 12 minutes was spent deciding what to do, ordering everyone off the ship, arguing about it, stunning the girl who wouldn't leave, having her carried off, etc.

And why is it required to count backwards from 5 before firing the wave motion gun?

These scenes are apparently from a different picture. Probably another version out there. The chinese and japanese language only version has an english subtitle option, and is a different movie!

"Star blazers" is the American title for the same Japanese serial. The american version was re-worded and re-edited by Sunrise company in 1979.

@stuchly1 Because they used the hull of the sunk Japanese battleship Yamato from WWII to build their space battleship Yamato. But I agree that, for a space vessel, it has several weak points, not the least of which would be the exposed bridge in the tower. The Galactica in the new BSG series had it better, with the bridge enclosed in the armored hull.
