@cyrax1984 Its great to see NeWaza application in its true form. The best thing about well rounded Judoka is the amount of Tachiwaza that leads into NeWaza. Two parts of a complet whole. Almost got him with the Juji-Gatame. You must have a great dojo to train at! Very nice.
@mark211175 Um you need to do some homeowrk my friend. Samurai did not use judo. Judo did not exist as an art until Kano came a long, which was quite after the samurai.Samurai floor fighing? What exactly do you presume this is?
@dirosaga Technically they did use judo, judo is juijitsu in a highly refined way, so when they through other warriors then broke there arms etc in unarmed combat, they were using a judo throw or a juijitsu throw. unless the throw they used was an illegal throw that is not in sport Judo.
@shearfitnutritionuk I would have to disagree. ALthough jujutsu and judo are related, they are not the same. The latter's creation was insipred by the former. And judo was created by kano to be a sport. He took all the deady/'too dangerous' moves out. In judo you flip an opponent, and you get a point, and the opponent is not really hurt as the way he is thrown and his breathing. In jujjutsu, you never wanted to allow the opponent to break fall, and you wanted the throw to kill him (crush spine)
@dirosaga The problem with "too deadly" moves is the training. If they are too deadly, then you can't train them against a resisting opponent. If you never train against a resisting opponent, pulling off the "too deadly" move will be difficult against someone who's fighting back and is skilled. It is easier to modify a move to be more dangerous than to pull off a theoretical "teh deadly" move when you got no practical skill in basics.
@bogdan135 If what you were saying now is true, than all military combatants around the world (well most professional ones) would all be unneffective. Why? Because all military personal are trained with their weapons (knives, guns, hands) to kill, yet never actually kill anything in practise. There is some validity to what you are saying, about making training as real as possible, but you are speaking from a sport-martial context. In full guard, you could press someones eyes through their brain
@bogdan135 with your thumbs, and fataly end the fight. Just because you have not done this on someone, does not make it true that such a technique would not work. There are many ways to simulate and come as real as possible to a scenario that one can, when practising techniques. Realism is optimal, but in the ways of war and taking life, you can only do your best to simulate realistic scenarios. And with relavance, classical jujutsu was used tested and refined in war for hundreds of years.

@25dylanakre Because this looks way better than UFC, Also because of the rules the fight doesn't seem real there 1 minute standing on the air 3 on the ground and another minutes takes to show their bloody faces
that was a good fight but i have to admit i hate bear hugs and am glad they got rid of them... it doesn't feel like real judo it feels like wrestling.... but sick choak out dude
@shinkioku Dumbest thing i have ever heard. The world champion of Judo would just throw the Karate black belt on his face and choke him out or break his arm or something. You know the reason why they created mixed martial arts right? To see who was the best, and they quickly learned that a grappler would be victourious. That ninja shit might work on an unexperianced fighter but, versus a Judo black belt. no way in hell. Bet you train Karate don't you? You should search up the nearest judo center
@Shaqtuz Of course I train Karate, but not a regular Karate: I’m a Kyokushinkai XXX black belt...and also a Judo brow belt! So do not talk with me like that because I know clearly about what I am talking. I have been in both sides and I tell you again: A good Kyokushin Karateka will not allow a good Judoka to grab him and if you want to know more about it, just walk in a Kyokushin Dojo to find by yourself!
@shinkioku ok i hear you. But according to you, not even a black belt judo beats a Kyokushinkai karate, so you, an XXX black belt should be able to beat almost anyone right? why not enter a mma fight and teach those noobs how to fight :) then we would not have to have these discutions. If you just show us instead
and how would you know this? I have trained for 8 yrs...received my black belt through the USJA in december of '06...this fight took place around 2007
Lyoto Machida is a MIXED MARTIAL ARTIST, not a Karateka.
Considering that Lyoto Machida crosstrains in Sumo and BJJ, your point has no validity.
The Dragon is a Mixed Martial Artist who uses Karate for his striking in place of more popular styles like Muay Thai and Boxing. The fact that he is an expert BJJ practitioner is what allows him to dominate. If he was simply a Karateka, he would die very quickly. His Sumo is just the icing on the cake.
Good fight. Played out well for the Judoka. Grapplers adapt to striking much easier than strikers can adapt to grappling. It's ridiculous even getting into a cage match if you don't play a newaza game.
@9N8X Yes however i believe karate has about the same techniques as muay thai, the only difference is the approach as far as i know despite that its stil a good combo ;)
EXCELLENT GROUND TRANSITIONS AND TAKE DOWNS!! I AM VERY IMPRESSED! (3yr bjj practictioner/1st year judo practitioner) this fight was an excellent example of both arts. congratulation.
exactly what constraints is the judo guy under? Can the Karate use his hardened strikes against soft targets(which focuses strength of the art)..are the eyes, throat, groin, hair, ears, armpits.IMHO, anytime u compare any two arts in a controlled environment, then its messes up that test....I'm sure Judo has some nasty ground moves that are illegal in sport also...but rules confine the fight.what good is a kick with no groin shot?
@samluke8121 oh and btw 4 yrs ago I saw something funny, there was a rivalry between 2 schools judo and tkd so they decided to fight each other, all the judokas won except for one who curiously was the one with the highest ranked and the star of the dojo, he lost due a kick to the head, got KOed badly, but that doesnt prove anything just as I said before
Beautiful take downs. I expected your opponent to have at least a basic understanding of wrestling and ground work, but you dominated the entire fight. He gave up his back, never spralled, and allowed himself to be tripped even while you were stacked on your back. Good work.
@bangermccrusher I agree that combining both is the ideal situation but if you MUST compare 1 versus the other, Judo wins simply because once the fight goes to the ground, Judoka is fluent in that situation. Now, all it takes is for a good Karateka to knock a Judoka out ... but that's very hard to do. It's easier to take someone down than to knock them out.
boozwoir lol well useem more like a person who know what your talkin about. and yea i know judo also have that moves. but judo is more known for hip throw. and if they have soo much pride in the double leg mind ass well learn wrestleing. and i kinda have to disagree with you. on grappling owning strikers. that was wayy back in the day where people didnt know what grappling was. everyone knows that now. im not sayin striking is better art. but i got to say all the champion is a striker
CMLeeByrne i know what style that they trained. i was just tell that fucker who said grappling beats all. but these usually beat people up by stand up stirkes.
ummm just to let ppl who say "judo beats karate" and stuff like that, lemme just tell u, a karate black belt who still trains in karate instead of stopping like this guy most likely did would probably stroll the judo black belt, great judo in my opinion but its the martial artist, not the art itself, so for any ignorant ppl on here, any judo can beat karate, and any karate can be judo, it just depends on how much they train, how hard, and how good their techniques are...
Judo may not be so viable on the octagon where the UFC is a game with rules. However, where there are no rules or referees; but concrete, ash-fault, a judo throw applied by an experience judoka like Karo could inflict serious damage, could be lethal. And, these include: A concussion, neck injuries, a broken back, shoulders or ribs. It depends on the kind of throw. Arm locks are carried out to the full extent, can't fight with a snapped arm.
The last sentence is reasonable. Arm locks are carried out to the full extent, can't fight with a snapped arm.
nosira u forgot to mention anderson silva is a muay thai and taekwondo black belt. machida black belt if shotokan karate. gsp black belt in kyushon karate.
@reporter yes you are right . except silva has another black belt in bjj. machida also has a black belt in bjj . and gsp has another black in shotokan , ontop of kyushon ...... and another black in bjj under bruno fernadez. ( 4 time world champ ) along with his wresting. ........ so all 3 of them got alot of belts . leathal motherfuckers to say the least.
@KRLALLDAY Judo maybe fun and effective however Judo on it's own is NOT the best. Judo is something you have to have mixed with other styles like Muay Thai in order to be effective in a real situation.
I've done MMA , which includes both Muay Thai and Submission wrestling/Jujitsu, but I recently joined Judo to mix it with what I already know.
either the judo guy didnt hav the choke in tight or he didnt know how 2 choke right u get it in tight u can literaly choke some1 out in like 5 seconds
urmomakiller Apparently u really still have that back in the old days where grappler wins. dude Look all the fuckin champs these days? its mostle strikers
urmomakiller your the most biggest dumbass ever lived. Dude u stupid dumb fuck. I never fuckin said he wasnt a mix martial artist u dumbass. I said his main style of fighting is fuckin karate u dumbass listen to interview where he talks about how his father made the karate
urmomakiller and yes shogun Did win that fight? so what? i never said shogun didnt win. What i was saying was u guys said karate sucks But a karate fighter just became a champ? I never said he was unbeatable U dumb fuck. Before u start acting like u know something Read The comment first? and try understand it u dumbass
urmomakiller U stupid little bitch dont try and teach me about the sport cuz u dont shit about it u dumb fuck. Of COurse His a mixed martial art u stupid fuck? It doesnt take rocket scientist to figure that out u stupid bitch. But his main style is machida karate u dumbass bitch. and u must not know what karate is but Not all karate kick with a foot? and machida kick with his ankle not with shit. go learn more about the sport and then complain
says the stupud fat guy that has never done MMA and so what ankles still break easier then shin and some times and you dont know anything about the sport, you dont know how much of a difference it makes when you know more then 1 style so you cannot make comparasions with old ufc where it was style vs style and to where it is now with MMA, and Machida himself will say that he is a mma fighter not just a karate guy and karate dosent suck but you cant be a dumb fuck and make that comparaion dumbass
teamventure09 you must not KNow anything u stupid fuck. go look at machida interview he said He spars with muay thai and boxer But his style is fuckin karate. U dumbass Look at his punch and kick does that look muay thai to you? Dont even say shit U dont shit about mma. so dont watch it Little kid
@reporter ok but machida isnt pure karate he knows muay thai 2 so dont get all stupid now he dosent kick with his foot like karate fighters do he hits with his shin like muay thai fighters do AND SHOGUN BEAT HIS ASS so it dosent matter
his style is not just karate once agian he is a mixed martial artist, maybe you should go learn what that is first, If you disagree with this your are a dumbass because there is evidence in the recorded ufc 1-5 bouts of this: Karate does not suck its a martial art worthy of learning however it is not the best style because it does not fair the best style vs style, graplers seemed to have the advantage over strickers in the early ufc, which is why royce graice was the champ and why judo wins
Uhh yea try saying that to machida. Lol karate guys is the champion right now in the ufc. and by the way U guys keep saying judo is better I havent seen any judo technique on this clip all i seen was double leg takedown which is wrestleing
1.) machida is a mixed martial artist not just a karate guy 2.) hes only the champ right now because of a judgeing eror 80% of the ufc and dana white agree that shogun won that
@reporter Actually that was Judo. It is called Morote Gari, double leg grab in english. What you'll find is many martial arts have the same moves or similar moves in them as the work. Like Tomoe Nage (Stomach Throw) is also a kickboxing move. The essence of Judo and Jiu-Jitsu is making the fight easy on your self, not on the other person, hence why Judoka and Jiu-Jitsuka ttend to own the striking martial arts.
ufc is ultimate fighting championship. that has nothing to do with a type of martial art. that was mma, mixed martial art. its common that people get them confused.
I teach karate and ours and other style have ranks to the black belt from 1st-10th degree so saying a black belt in karate is sometimes like saying a blue belt in jujitsu
what is the name of the song? plz

ummm just to let ppl who say "judo beats karate" and stuff like that, lemme just tell u, a karate black belt who still trains in karate instead of stopping like this guy most likely did would probably stroll the judo black belt, great judo in my opinion but its the martial artist, not the art itself, so for any ignorant ppl on here, any judo can beat karate, and any karate can be judo, it just depends on how much they train, how hard, and how good their techniques are...

Judo may not be so viable on the octagon where the UFC is a game with rules. reporter 2 years ago

JUDO THE BEST
KRLALLDAY 2 years ago 20
@KRLALLDAY Judo maybe fun and effective however Judo on it's own is NOT the best. Judo is something you have to have mixed with other styles like Muay Thai in order to be effective in a real situation.
I've done MMA , which includes both Muay Thai and Submission wrestling/Jujitsu, but I recently joined Judo to mix it with what I already know.

I never said he was unbeatable U dumb fuck. Before u start acting like u know something Read The comment first? and try understand it u dumbass
reporter 2 years ago
urmomakiller U stupid little bitch dont try and teach me about the sport cuz u dont shit about it u dumb fuck. Of COurse His a mixed martial art u stupid fuck? It doesnt take rocket scientist to figure that out u stupid bitch. But his main style is machida karate u dumbass bitch. and u must not know what karate is but Not all karate kick with a foot? and machida kick with his ankle not with shit. go learn more about the sport and then complain
reporter 2 years ago
says the stupud fat guy that has never done MMA and so what ankles still break easier then shin and some times and you dont know anything about the sport, you dont know how much of a difference it makes when you know more then 1 style so you cannot make comparasions with old ufc where it was style vs style and to where it is now with MMA, and Machida himself will say that he is a mma fighter not just a karate guy and karate dosent suck but you cant be a dumb fuck and make that comparaion dumbass
urmomakiller 2 years ago
teamventure09 you must not KNow anything u stupid fuck. go look at machida interview he said He spars with muay thai and boxer But his style is fuckin karate. U dumbass Look at his punch and kick does that look muay thai to you? Dont even say shit U dont shit about mma. so dont watch it Little kid
reporter 2 years ago
@reporter ok but machida isnt pure karate he knows muay thai 2 so dont get all stupid now he dosent kick with his foot like karate fighters do he hits with his shin like muay thai fighters do AND SHOGUN BEAT HIS ASS so it dosent matter
urmomakiller 2 years ago
In Karate they are kickin with shin too u moron...
Jeano777 2 years ago
his style is not just karate once agian he is a mixed martial artist, maybe you should go learn what that is first, If you disagree with this your are a dumbass because there is evidence in the recorded ufc 1-5 bouts of this: Karate does not suck its a martial art worthy of learning however it is not the best style because it does not fair the best style vs style, graplers seemed to have the advantage over strickers in the early ufc, which is why royce graice was the champ and why judo wins
urmomakiller 2 years ago
Uhh yea try saying that to machida. Lol karate guys is the champion right now in the ufc. and by the way U guys keep saying judo is better I havent seen any judo technique on this clip all i seen was double leg takedown which is wrestleing
reporter 2 years ago
machida is not a good example because he trains muay thai and boxing all the time. he's not straight karate.
teamventure09 2 years ago
1.) machida is a mixed martial artist not just a karate guy 2.) hes only the champ right now because of a judgeing eror 80% of the ufc and dana white agree that shogun won that
urmomakiller 2 years ago
